with the original sprocket you were going 52mph. If you want to get to 100mph you need to cut your gear ratio less than half maybe to a third of the gear ratio due to drag and to powertrain losses. Look at your motors power curve chart and look at the peak power at the top end of the motors rpm. Use that rpm number in the calculation, measure you wheels, and measure your gear ratio.
Really cool kart build, a couple of notes though. You might be able to get a bigger front sprocket, that will increase the top speed. Also, you don’t need to have different chains for different size gears. With normal karts at least, the engine slides forwards and backwards, once you get the proper chain tension you tighten it down on the frame rails. This also makes it easier as you no longer need to undo a link to get the chain on and off, just loosen the engine and slide it forwards or backwards. Also, I think you are running the chain too tight. There is supposed to be some slack in it. They recommend about 10mm of movement up and down on my TAG kart. I think this might be the reason for the chain tearing the teeth up AND the reason why the motor twisted. Looking forward to more videos on this kart.
iv been wanting to build a gokart ever since I was 7-8 years old, I still do want to build a go kart soooo bad and seeing this vid makes me sooo jealous that kart goes fast
Math is your friend, use it. Your original 53 MPH @ 54T can be used to calculate. If you use math, you can see the 47T is 1.15% > than original ratio, expected top speed of 61 MPH (almost exactly matched what you measured). Likewise, 40T is 1.35% > than original ratio, expected top speed of 72 MPH (again, almost exactly what you measured. Dropping to 21T was WAY too low, the motor couldn't get to max RPM (motor RPM is your limiting top speed). What you want is a 29T or 1.88% > original ratio for a predicted top speed (assuming the motor can still reach max RPM), of 99.8 MPH...
Also, I love what you are doing but you are nowhere near 100HP (just an observation, not criticism). 1 HP = 745 Watts, so 100 HP would be 74.5 Kilowatts, meaning your 72 Volt battery (and speed controller, and cables), would have to be capable of handling 1,034 Amps, NOT happening! My guess, you are much closer to 40 HP (30 Kilowatts @ 400 Amps), still very respectable!
Awesome setup. You didn't need to drop all the way down to a 21 and by doing so you are putting a ton of undue stress on the components. If you had unlimited power and could achieve the same peak motor RPM with the 54 and 21 the top speed with the 21 would be 136. If the motor and battery have sufficient power you should be able to hit 100 with a 28 tooth driven sprocket based on the 53mph with a 54 tooth. One last thing it looks like you are running the chain way too tight which makes the chain run hotter, stretch more and more likely to fail. The chain needs slack to prevent binding as the chassis and axle flex, you would be surprised how much things shift around under high dynamic loads.
Put some bigger wheels on that thing. Your power setting will just mean you accelerate faster, it won't change the rpm the motor spins at. Change the gearing and put bigger wheels on to increase the top end. Small wheels will give faster acceleration, big wheels higher top end. A 2 speed auto box would be cool, with an auto clutch where at a certain rpm the centrifugal force throws it into the higher gear, that way you could get to the 100mph or maybe even more. Failing that you would need a higher revving motor. Amazing build though, I love it bro, well done!
"It did 70mph, I dont think I want it to go any faster than that" made me laugh. But its the truest statement. I built a few fun karts like this and 60/70mph is plenty fast. Feels like 150mph in a full size car
If your out of ideas you should buy that 1932 Ford Roadster pedal car and those mini V8 engines you see people building on UA-cam but you'll have to fabricate entire chassis and you'll need to get a transmission of course to change gears but that would be something cool to see built. If I had the funds I would probably try to build it but it probably won't happen.
Nah, I had a look at the kit specs on the website.... It's rated at 15kw continuous, 25kw peak. That is roughly 33hp max. So definatley a long way from 100hp..... but I think its fast enough lol!
Hey Taylor its so a Bad Boy!!! Amazing!! I built also one and i am trying to find out which parameters are Perfect for the Controller.. can you Show your Parameters?
So you are going for top speed with the smaller 21 tooth rear sprocket. But how does that effect the fun factor for drifting and take off acceleration? You can also go 1 or 2 teeth larger drive sprocket on the motor
Hi Tyler, I really like what you did and have been wanting to build something like that for quite some time, but I'm new to go karting / e bikes, etc. Would it be possible for you to make a complete list with exactly which motor, battery, and throttle you used please? If you already did that somewhere I apologize I'm just not seeing. Only saw manufacturers links. Thanks in advance!
P.S For your connectors, quit fucking around, get yourself some XT150's or just use good 8-10mm bullets. That shits good for 100v 500 amps continuous. QS8's are good too if you want something with a solid overmould.
Hi. Good vidéo👍👍With your test.....what is the size of your front sprocket please ?thanks. I SUPPOSE IT S THE FRONT SPROCKET TO THE SURRON PRIMARY CHAIN ?
i think going back to 30 teeth will get you better bottom end without effecting top speed. the sound the motor is making says it's running out of torque around apx 70% of the way to max rpm.
Can you get a larger counter sprocket. One tooth on the counter is like 2 to 3 tooth on the rear. I raced 80 shifter karts and you are getting close to the top speeds we would run.
Love the Kart. It is a simple and inexpensive way to go electric. However a little scary for the road. Your head is car bumper height and might be hard to see by a car. Do you know of anything a little bigger that would be fun to make a cheap simple car for the road?
Hows the torque with the 40 tooth and 22 tooth? And whats the total cost to build this kart, interested? Looked in links doesnt have complete kits or chassis
See if you can tweak your speed controller? There's a field weakening setting that should give you between 10/15km (10mph) up top 👍 Besides that you could always option to go with a higher voltage battery so long as your speed controller supports it? Personally if I'm going to build an EV of any kind, I'd always option for a controller that supports way more voltage than I am giving it? There is a guy on UA-cam that has an E-kart where he has removed and side pods and that's where he has mounted his Surron battery? That's 2 X 72 volt batteries that are in series to make 144volts total power and that kart is friggin ballistic! It doesn't just light the tyres up, it full on bags the treads like a car in a burnout competition! Just note that the higher the voltage the harder it is to drive the kart going slow because then the controller has to work harder to "dial it back" . Basically only pros should be allowed to ride it and it makes it a vehicle incapable of being ridden by a beginner 👌
considering the ratios and gearing you can reduce the diameter of the sprocket even more the more the better and you can also change the amount of teeth on both sprockets to effect the torque and speed that's all good but you can change the batteries and wiring so you can use small diameter sprockets at the axles the heavier and harder sprocket the better so it don't break , about 20 years ago I was going to put a sprocket on the driveshaft of my truck having a power assist for the diesel motor this was using pneumatic assist with 1" impact driver air gun, consider the ratio between wheel diameter and crankshaft and how many revolutions per minute , any faster you should beef things up a little, great job I wouldn't change a thing, I'm working on converting a 85 Honda atv 2wd 250 into a hybrid with a electric motor powering the front wheels any idea what kind of motor I can use ? maybe a souped up golf cart motor, I'll do a short video soon showing what the plan is but it'll be on my other phone UA-cam channel @Guy Telfer and the motor I have to use
That thing is insanely fast that’s crazy. Definitely thinking of building this

i was thinking why not bigger motor sprocket to really get it going lol
@@gamersplaygroundliquidm3th526 yea, when I say bigger front sprocket that’s what I mean, a bigger motor sprocket.
@@michaelpurnell9526 lol okok that's what I thought , it puzzles me to why he didn't do that firsty?

Genius!! I wish they had all this tech when i was a wee lad .
It's not the only Ekart that is done this style on UA-cam at all there's loads.

@ oh wow you’re really cool. You’ve done basic math wow!
Any thoughts on a belt drive system that can handle that power without shredding, would definitely help with the chain noise level
Thanks for the inspection now I’m gonna buy a electric drifter

That thang is incredible.
Might be worth mounting the controller behind the seat if it will fit, you'd have less big wire to run (and heat up)
The person filming Tyler’s videos like 👁️👄👁️
I could see your build taking off. Would love to see it on a kart track with lap times.
Something with that much power needs a full size seat so you don’t give yourself whiplash lol
On that speedometer app if you swipe right on the speed it will show top speed

Its the torque! Even if it was 33hp it will have alot more torque than a 33hp 125cc 2 stroke would.

Love the crazy idea
Hey, cool video! I'm in the process of building my own e-Kart. How many amps of discharge current do you have?
Use the mini bike speed calculators out there. No need to guess on speed once you know your RPM and tire size it will calculate it for you.
