Best thing we did!! We full timed for almost 3 years. I was able to re-locate, change careers, and had an incredible experience traveling the country. The experience and knowledge you and your children gain from full time travel is worth it’s weight in gold.
If you're fulltiming on a budget,... A thousand trails membership is a must. Some parks get you to a location while others fulfill your needs. It was one of the best investments we made preparing for this lifestyle. Jason and Rae have videos breaking down the membership levels and how the system works that we are appreciative of. Also. Loved the bloopers.
We purchased our used package from Kim and absolutely had no regrets and then when their new adventure package came out with the early purchase deal we contacted her again and she was fabulous she went over everything with us to make sure it would be something that would work for us and then contacted a rep for us and we got it . We stay exclusively at TT/ encore parks in a year we have spent $ 118.00 out of pocket to stay somewhere and then used Passport america for it . These 2 senior clampers are loving life with no regrets .We hope to see you out there , Stay well and travel safe .
I bought a used membership from Kim at campground membership outlet recently. April 2021. She was GREAT! She made everything super smooth. Saved thousands over new. Kim is very patient, informative, and very non rushed. She answers emails surprisingly quick. She knows everything!
@@GetawayCouple For sure. I know my message sounds like a paid add lol. But it's true. She lived up to the hype. I sent her a message at about 9:45p.m. her time on a Saturday. We are full time and our thousand trails membership has saved us a ton and we just have the basic with trails. It was like $800. Per year. Way cheaper then paying full cost.
@@Thethriftpicker do you find that you can book with the 60 day window? We are not full time but are hoping to head south from Canada once the border opens. Mostly the west coast down to California. I fear that with the basic membership that we will never find anything because the folks with a longer window will have snapped them up.
@@paulashealthyliving that was my only issue but only on places that were very popular. Like the keys in the winter. That was not gonna happen. But even the people with the big membership didn’t get it. So idk if it’s worth it. If we were going to be full time longer then we would’ve got the bigger one for sure.
Nice video, we bought an RV right before the pandemic and finally took it around the country last year for 45 days, stayed in 6 states, the entire cost was about $6000. Almost $3500 was actually fuel costs. Looked into Thousand Trails.. won't fit into our style as we camp maybe a dozen times. Seem like a good thing for someone who is on the RV Road year round though. tks for the video.. subscribed..
idk where you live, but for me the southwest zone camping pass pays for itself within about 11 stays. and i'm just doing tent camping until the fall. LOL. but then again, everything is $$$$$ in california.
Many people regret the quality of the campgrounds in the TT system. The question is one really of cost. I am not seeking luxury at a campgound. I purchased a zone pass for my winter season of 2019/2020 and recieved great value for my purchase. A zone pass is a 1 year zone pass in the $500 range. No membership cost. Unlimited 2 week stays with a 60 day booking window. I stayed twice in las vegas and once in palm springs. Good value. Your expectations should be realistic, and you need to purchase the appropriate pass/membership that works for how much you will use it.
Great video guys! We have the elite with trails collection and it’s paid itself off in the past two years. For us, it was spending as many nights as possible in their parks to pay it off quickly. Now it’s just a thing of staying 10 nights a year and our dues are paid too. (We still stay 100+) another issue they have is the reservation system. We notice that they leave about 10% of the spots open for retail customers. I understand the profit of this but it makes it difficult at times. Days blocked but notice there’s plenty of open places. The only other issue is the roadways in the parks could all use repair.... we added another membership that allows us to stay at parks where there is no TT for about $15 on average that are normally $50+ night parks.
We bought new in 2003 and have upgraded 2 more times. Yes you can buy used and its a good thing to do because it saves you money and helps someone sell there's when they no longer need it. Thats a positive to be able not be stuck with a membership you longer want.
I bought a thousand trails years ago just after they started this timeshare. I bought it used but back then you could buy it directly from a private party which saved you thousands. From what I understand you cannot do it that way anymore. Do they still cap the amount you pay when you get to the age of 65? Also when I had camped through thousand trails they did not allow permanent residents as they do now and after looking at some you tube videos and reviews from current owners it appears that a lot of them are worse for wear.
We’ve been back and forth trying to decide whether or no to invest in a TT membership as we near our 3/4 time RV status. Have seen yours and other’s videos on the topic. Biggest concern is that it appears many of the parks are run down or sites are extremely tight. Would love to know if any of the regrets have been for these reasons and what you’ve found.
Something we looked into early on and decided to pass on. But now maybe it's time for us to take another look at it and see if there is an option that fits us. Love the bloopers at the end.
I have a question that I can't seem to get an answer to..... I was considering getting an elite membership which allows me to stay in the parks for up to 21 days at a time. But what if I wanted to stay in the same park? Would thousand trails allow me to just pay a nightly fee and stay at the same Park for months, instead of packing up every 21 days to go somewhere else???
It used to be outdoor world. We ha e used it since 1986. We still love it. Has gone a bit shabby , but save so much money and have a lifetime membership, and I inherited this. My kids and friends can use it to
You really have to decide how you camp and if you’re going to get value from your purchase. What works for me is buying an annual zone pass, currently I paid $520 in 2024. I chose the southwest which gives me all the TT parks in California, Az, Nv and Colorado. I can easily add more zones as needed or not. I can opt out of buying the pass for a particular year or purchase it later in the year if I have other travel plans that would limit my use of the annual pass for that year. It’s totally worth it to me, over the cost of a full membership, which still requires a yearly maintenance cost. The booking window is only a max of 60 days out, but that has not been a problem for me and the way I travel. Happy camping!
I got a free, one year membership when I bought my trailer. They keep harassing me about locking in a reservation. I told them that I’ll call them. It’s irritating
I'm planning to join and I'm considering a more expensive option but I'm struggling to find the value in the more expensive options?? Can someone help me see the value? From my understanding you have the annual fee either way, So the cheapest option seems way better to me? Because with the cheapest option you can stay 3 weeks per month, with the more expensive option you can also stay 3 weeks per month ? Longer booking time is that really worth thousands of dollars more?
Thanks for your balanced and informative video. We're new to RVing and will be taking week-long seasonal trips rather than full time living. The RV dealership briefly explained the "free" Thousand Trails membership during the paperwork session. All sounded like a nice perk until the endless voice messages, emails and hard sell that followed providing our contact info. Reminded me of those annoying timeshare sales pitches at the resorts and theme parks. We haven't been camping yet since delivery on our 5th wheel RV is in April. The marketing folks at Thousand Trails need to realize that this is a BIG turn-off.
We are planning to RV 1/2 of the year and our main concern is availability of the super nice resorts i.e. Florida Keys. Does anybody have any insight on this?
If you use the TT parks there is NO charge. So what did you mean by $20 to $5? I have researched this for over a year. I have spoken to several reps an they all give you different informations.

If I wanted to buy a used membership so I could travel across the states over a 2 year period then, after that time sell the membership, would that be cost effective. Also, if my travel was fairly spontaneous, booking 2 weeks out, would I be out of luck?
This is our second year with TT and we have saved us money. Normal campground costs in our area is $70-$90/ night, last years TT per night costs were $45/night. Pre owned memberships are the way to go
@james-rd4dq happy for you that you are soooooo into boondocking, to each their own. For a lot of people TT has been a positive, but i will only speak for myself. I like the option of scheduling and knowing I have a spot. The TT" s I've been to are in better shape than some private campgrounds, and the more you camp, the less your membership cost. There's a number of reasons for the resale. Original owner of the membership passes away and the family would rather sell the membership. and you have people that bought it and full timed for an amount of time, now want don't need it. I'm certainly not an expert in this, but TT has worked for me.
Hey guys I subscribed to your channel I absolutely love it its my wife's and I dream to be able to pack up and go how does one go about making the big jump
Read, research, watch and learn all you can to make an informed decision. All parties must be "in". We cover lots of stuff on our blog getawaycouple.com You can put whatever you are looking to learn about in the search on our website and the articles will come up 😊
For full timers TT is a no brainer. I bought used Elite Connection through CMO and it has saved me tons of money and I have enjoyed most of the parks, only a few have been disappointing.
Maybe so people don’t have to commit to a membership? The pass is only good for 14 days then you have to stay out of a TT park for 7days I think. A membership(depending on the one you get) allows you to stay in a park for 21 days but you can move to another park if you wanted to.
We can't begin to tell you how much we appreciate this information. TT is a big consideration for us and having these details is very helpful. Lou & Angie
Hello guys, as always, awesome video and thank you for sharing the information with us. Love your channel. PS, if you allow a personal note, which I should have written weeks ago : so happy that you shaved that beard… hehehe. It’s personal to me, I know, but you look so much better. See you in your next video.
There aren’t parks in every state and the conditions of many are really poor. Amenities and facilities are often dramatically different and haven’t been maintained. Roads are horrific in some with potholes that will literally swallow your vehicle/trailer wheels.
Thank you so much for this video. Great job on explaining the 1,000 trails and how it works. And who to talk too! You probably have to get a hold of them months in advance to stay at their parks. Thank you again for these tips it helps. I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. Hoke you enjoy this weekend too! See you soon! Safe travels.
I spoke to someone from Thousand Trails today and I think you are making it seem more difficult than it actually is. If the resale person you keep pumping can explain it, so can the sales person from Thousand Trails. He did a screen share and it was explained very well.
@james-rd4dq that is exactly why we didn't join. When I asked if they cap the membership, he said no. So I said, it's possible that you wouldn't be able to get a spot. Case in point would be your friends. It's an great deal if you can get into places. But if you're not going to limit memberships then it will get to the point where you it's a waste of money.
@james-rd4dq and I have only seen one Thousand Trails campground and it's right on the interstate 10.... That would be a hard pass for me but it fills up.
My parents bought their Thousand Trails Membership in 1974....we purchased ours in 2000. We are absolutely happy with our membership. There are parks that need to be upgraded/renovated, some are in beautiful condition, and others are okay. What we don’t like.....the annual site rentals and the TT Pass, they take spots away from people who have purchased their memberships for thousands of dollars just to be told a park is full!!! People who buy the annual pass are paying the equivalent of our annual dues without having to pay thousands!
@@GetawayCouple We live in Canada but my wife is American and we have family on both sides and hope to make good use of the TT plan when we go full-time shortly

1000 Trails on the West or East Coasts & their add-ons get into more expensive budgets. The parks are very particular with your Furbabies. Lots of reservations restrictions as well (know your length). If you can't understand all the rules, the millions of rules, you won't enjoy. BTW, we've been to Encore Parks the ones not on either coasts with our RV PARK Membership (Not 1000 Trails). If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.
This is an older video we did about our decision to join and what it is: ua-cam.com/video/5zQxKYDD2OQ/v-deo.html We also have several articles that Jason has written on our website: getawaycouple.com Just search Thousand Trails on our site and they will all come up 😊 Thousand Trails is a campground membership organization that operates in a similar fashion to a resort timeshare. You pay an upfront cost and then are able to use the facilities for given amounts of time throughout the year.
I’ve heard and read too much bad about Thousand Trails. From what y’all say, it’s sounds like some good benefits, but there are so many negatives that aren’t talked about much.
The other thing people should know is if you buy a used membership, you're it! There is no reselling it. So you just helped the people you bought it from recoup up to 75% of their membership fees!! Plus a new membership gets 10 years of 1 week free cabin usage. $3,000 in RPI credit. I think buying new is the way to go myself.
I'm really confused how you're saving thousands of dollars a year on the membership when the membership costs like $600? Is there something I'm missing?
The thing I fear about TT/RV parks is noise. Anybody else's machine audio drives me nuts. Others too. Other "big name" RV UA-camrs say they absolutely Will Not stay in RV parks b/c of that. If TT could promise to protect campers from machine audio, they could get the "I hate RV parks b/c of noise" business. What's been your experience? How do you deal with it? Is it a problem for you guys?
Buying resale may be fine, but you are stuck with it. You can not resell it and recoup some of your money if it doesn't work for you like a new membership.
You can stay in Texas State parks that does not look like a parking lot for $20 night. Who wants to camp in a parking lot with someone 10 feet from you. That looks miserable.
Sounds a lot like a Timeshare Scam to me. "Upgrades"..."Maintenance Fees"..."Yearly Membership"...No Thanks. I bought a 7000+ SF Residential/ RV/City lot in an RV based subdivision. It's more than doubled in value in 5 years.
We bought our TT memberships October 2021, but our RV was not delivered until May 31, 2022. To date, we have used 3 different TT sites from Tucson to San Diego, CA and they have great. So far our cost has been ZERO in 54 days. And we have booked to January 12 2023 and all sites is costing us ZERO. I have seen the sights before and got several great recommendations at all the sites we are staying. I also have 210 advance reservation set-up on my TT.

I miss you guys, you are always informative and I enjoy your videos
Thanks you. That was a big help. We will probably be mostly boondocking so the
expense of a membership wouldn't be a wise choice for us.
That totally makes sense! It's not for everyone 😊
I don't get what the membership is about vs the yearly pass. If your yearly dues is the same as the yearly pass why the upfront cost?
Maybe so people don’t have to commit to a membership? The pass is only good for 14 days then you have to stay out of a TT park for 7days I think. A membership(depending on the one you get) allows you to stay in a park for 21 days but you can move to another park if you wanted to.
We what to buy used shares we are lost on this.
Maybe i missed it. Would this be a good investment for full time RV'ers
It depends on your needs. This is an older video we did about our decision to join and what it is: ua-cam.com/video/5zQxKYDD2OQ/v-deo.html
We just bought an Elite membership USED!! Killer deal too! Cant wait to go fulltime in November!
Congrats on both!!! Enjoy!
We have 3 dogs and the rules say there’s a two dog limit at the parks so no Thousand Trails for us at this point.
Makes sense!
We have 3 small dogs. They seriously have a 2 dog limit?
We can't begin to tell you how much we appreciate this information. TT is a big consideration for us and having these details is very helpful.
Lou & Angie
Thanks guys! Always trying to share the whole truth. You know we use ours, you just have to navigate all the options that work for you.
@@GetawayCouple By any chance could you guys share the booking process?
Thanks,
Lou
Wow That's rare not to get no dislike
Respect👊
Great video love the ending
Thanks, but yes it happens - and that's ok. Thanks for the compliment!!
That's what I was thinking. Huge Purchase!
Thank you for your Information about too many specific rules! An absolute NO-GO! I don't even start thinking about buying a membership.
There are many different levels of plans, and it just depends on your travel style & needs.
What a new look, rae!
Thank you 😊
Hello guys, as always, awesome video and thank you for sharing the information with us. Love your channel. PS, if you allow a personal note, which I should have written weeks ago : so happy that you shaved that beard… hehehe. It’s personal to me, I know, but you look so much better. See you in your next video.
😂 Well thank you! We appreciate the compliments and positive comments! Make sure you have subscribed!
Are you still supporting TT?
I really enjoyed how you broke arguments down. Still looking into it. 🖖🏻🙏🏻👍🏻😘
Research and find what works for you. Thanks for the comment!
What programs did you guys buy?
We have purchased a used Elite Program just over 3 years ago. www.getawaycouple.com/thousand-trails-membership-options/
I think you should of added that people with memberships with smaller booking windows sometimes just can’t book a site when they want it.
Great comment - thanks for adding!
Thanks Sherri! It's such a complex system and we do what we can! Hope you had a great weekend as well! 😊
Love your video ,is parttime worth buying it for $499.
Depends on how much you truly plan to use it and if the locations available are where you want to go.
Love your bloopers! Please don't ever edit them out :-)
Glad you like them!
We agree ....always fun to watch keep them in please
Do you not get paid if someone is not subscribe and watches your video
Wait? Why does their website say their membership is $615, but you keep saying you paid THOUSANDS?
the zone pass and the membership are 2 different things.
Thank You, A lot of important Info to Think Over. 5*s VIdeo.
Glad it was helpful!
We are setup for boondocking, so not savings for us
That's awesome! Enjoy!!
Great input Cindy - thanks for sharing!
Great info thanks guys
You bet!

@@GetawayCouple Many thanks for some reason it did not show up on my youtube
I regret even thinking of it! LOL. Watching many videos, I am sure I DO NOT want to live on a large pavement parking lot, I mean 'camp ground'.
Thanks for your comments. You definitely have to do your research ahead of time on the parks and regulations!
For those of us that are new to RVing.....You should introduce and define what is "Thousand Trails."
Its basically a timeshare
This is an older video we did about our decision to join and what it is: ua-cam.com/video/5zQxKYDD2OQ/v-deo.html
We also have several articles that Jason has written on our website: getawaycouple.com Just search Thousand Trails on our site and they will all come up 😊 Thousand Trails is a campground membership organization that operates in a similar fashion to a resort timeshare.
I’ve heard enough bad about the membership that I won’t be considering it when I retire.
It's not for everyone. We use ours alot, but it just depends on your travel style and needs.
Another great video 👍
Thanks for the compliment!!
Dave Ramsey says timeshares are a scam. Prospective buyers, be careful!
I am thinking of buying an elite with Kim.
She will totally help to narrow down what you need for your travel style.
The two of you should do one posting or maybe two of nothing but bloopers. 😂👍
We have heard that before and maybe one day......Thanks for watching Doug!
@@GetawayCouple oh shoot, and here I thought I had an original thought 😂😂
Haven;t heard anything good about 1000 trails. Many of them about the entitled long term campers who think they own the place.
I lived and traveled extensively in a van with my disabled son for three years and we never paid to stay anywhere. Just sayin...
You forgot to mention that you can resell a new membership but can't resell a used membership
Good to know - thanks Mike!
You can resale some used memberships! That was one of the selling points when we got ours through Kim.
big purchase?? its only $615 for an entire year. how is that a big purchase? atleast the NW zone is that price
Very interesting episode!
Thanks Peter! Just trying to keep it real as always!
When you do RV living you are looking for a freedom, not some bureaucratic bs full of stupid rules and regulations.
new glasses?
Always trying out new things 🤓
@@GetawayCouple very very nice hair, glasses, lipstick etc
You can stay in Texas State parks that does not look like a parking lot for $20 night. Who wants to camp in a parking lot with someone 10 feet from you. That looks miserable.
Sounds a lot like a Timeshare Scam to me. "Upgrades"..."Maintenance Fees"..."Yearly Membership"...No Thanks. I bought a 7000+ SF Residential/ RV/City lot in an RV based subdivision. It's more than doubled in value in 5 years.
The campgrounds are dumps and not kept up -No way -not going to pay thousands of dollars for dumpy campgrounds 🤯
Thanks for the input Mary. There are some great ones out there, but it's not for everyone.
