can't tell you how much I love this comprehensive dive into the label and enhancing the personal lives of both the designer and the consumer (their whole relationship). incredibly excited for the next "why I wear". WE LOVE YOU RIAN!!!
the way you talk about clothes is so interesting and engaging. i’ve never cared about fashion and was brought up to think it was unimportant, but your videos have made me realize that clothes are so much more than just clothes - you told rick’s whole life story through his clothes and i think that’s incredible thank you for this video and for helping me realize that it’s okay to put time and thought into the way i present myself to the world :)
this is so inspiring, you have encouraged me to think about what I wear a little bit more and I have actually started to lean into "telling a story with my clothes.
Okay, you can’t be beautiful, smart & philosopher. The twist was your rant on Rick & I’m like where is this going, but nodding the whole way that you’re right. Great transitions & inserts to backup your statements. Liked & subscribed. Note: You have a great voice & vocabulary!
Love how you talk about him making clothes that meat the body where it is rather than force it into shape, feel like this spoke to me because my favorite aspect of Rick is his pants and how he consistently uses elastic waistbands on more tailored pants and creates these pieces that I feel comfortable in. Like he makes these pants that are very much the opposite of a sweatpants in many regards (material/patterning) yet still keep this elastic waistband
I’ve mentioned it before but I’ve been sitting with the idea of what I want to communicate with my style, since you shared it in your last video. Because damn, what do I want to communicate? Thank you for this series!
Rian do you have a Patreon? I feel like you’re talking to my soul the way you put my thoughts into words. Love how your discussion of fashion is a vehicle to my self-actualization
I've recently got into rick. I've always admired him but wearing his women's wear is really something else. It's something completely it's own and not as focused on trends. One thing I always say that I get flack for is rick is for the girls in the most transcendent way. Yes we all see the goth themes on the runway but deconstruct those looks and you have well designed, well crafted, unique yet classic silhouettes in incredible fabrication. The way Rick can go from ketamine bene geserit to a grandma who wears cucinelli as well is like no other.
scorpio is my favourite collection probably of all time. the beautiful colours, the charles james-inspired cuts and shapes, the soundtrack. truly amazing + perf example of non-doom-and-gloom rick collection. thank you for this video!
thankyou for the dopamine hit, feels great to be mentally stimulated! I've always admired how comfortable Rick has been with sharing his goofiness + vulnerabilities through such a refined and thoughtful process such as clothesmaking. It feels oddly fortunate to see a guy like him out here who seems to have struck the right balances between getting to be himself + maintaining a successful fashion brand. Like, he found his niche within global capitalism lol. Interviews I read of his (and Michele's) were really valuable to me as a teenager. Thankyou Rick 4 the beauty + the laffs xox
I want to surround myself with people who engage critically with the world and fashion the way you do. Your videos reinvigorate my passion for clothes and remind me why I care about them
Rian. I wear Rick because of the genius of the drape, the notes of ancient cultures ,architectural forwardness as well as the cloth . As you expressed, his storytelling.
I love that! I felt so long winded going into specifics but I love the reference to ancient cultures and how he said it makes him feel insignificant (?) but in a good way that he revives designs that have been done time and time again since the dawn of man because they work, and noted appreciation for the cycles etc. Thank you so much for sharing this
Thank you for this! As a creative director myself, I appreciate when people still learn and praise the art of storytelling no matter from what perspective. Beautiful.
Great video. You (if you haven't seen already) may like Jan Jan Van Essche's work. Sustainability plays a big part of the design . The aesthetic is more earthy than Rick's but I feel there is a parallel in that there is consistency of form season to season with minor variations. It's small scale and ethically made and the cuts are gorgeous.
Really wander if u could make a video about personal style and body shapes? This is done a lot but really wanna hear your pov of it. Will what your saying be understood even to a lil group or will like overlapping things (race, size, “gender”) muddy it all?
Yeah the idea of a hype beast and the idea that buying this designer because he’s popular is strange and capitalism driven. Buying something that cost 500+ a pop and then letting it sit is crazy to me. I just came from a video of the couple who collects Rick and they literally were like “I wore these shoes for years and had to buy a new pair cause of how worn in my og pair was” like that’s what your meant to do. Buy stuff cause you like it.
good afternoon i have yet to consume one of your vids on youtube but so since this is the first one ive seen since watching you on tiktok it seems theres a lack of graphics or visual simulation and i wanna graphic design for you right now im in my first year of dgm at praire view and would like more experience doing graphic work for other people for free ive been interested in fashion for a very long time i even want my own brand ive been an artisat for a long time now and to prove myself i can send you a portfolio on insta or threw email of my art and graphics ( alot of it maybe work from my fashion club a graphic design for i wanna even throw in some clothing designs for you) you are a very articulate in explaining what fashion is to you and i love your intelligence i hope u can get back to me
this is practically a sermon…I came for a fashion lesson and left questioning the nuance of existence and admitting I need therapy…

i definitely relate a little to rick owens and his perspective. way more than I thought...
also the “you’re also part of the story. he’s told his story, you tell yours when you’re wearing it” just opened my eyes omg
Soo deep lol
