I got that same guitar , did a sponge sanding on the fret ends and the frets were all level lower the strings and believe it are not it plays good and sounds good .
This one is likely from a different factory. Biggest indicator to me is that the back on this one is all black. Your older one has the burst on the back (more work). A replacement brass 6-saddle set is about $13. I was disappointed too, when I phoned Monoprice yesterday and confirmed their current Retros are this configuration. As long as the build quality is fine (nut installation, neck straight with no high frets, joint to the body) you can make adjustments for playability and sand the neck and frets, lube the fretboard. Not really a wise buy for beginners...
I'm still going to build this replica.have all the fender parts,stains,etc..just waiting for a moment in time to start and not have to stop..praise the lord. Hallelujah

I orded the blue tele with string thru body suppose to be here sat. i hope it is the correct one that i ordered
The same thing happen to me. Orded the string thru body and they sent me the same thing you got. That really sucks .

well it is clear you gave up on this conversion and i wasted 21 minutes of my time
