When morbius said “it’s time to go beyond, morb ultra!!!” Against all for one, I almost cried. such a beautiful scene with so much character growth and world building in the morbverse.
To be fair, and I'm saying this as a fan of comics Morbius, he's a difficult character to make a movie about. He was originally a full blown tragic villain who could keep up with the Lizard. His transition to anti-hero folded into the rise of the Midnight Sons, and even that only occurred after years of feeding on the innocent and wracking up a tortured conscience as a result. Years long despair and then grasping for a vague hope of some kind of redemption by preying only on those who deserve to die. That kind of long arc is hard to capture in a 2 or 3 hour film. I had two issues with the film itself. One, Martine in the comics was supposed to be a Grace Kelly-level socialite blonde who loves Morbius for his genius-intellect and compassionate personality. It was a mystery to Morbius himself why somebody like her would ever fall for him. And it makes their story that much more tragic. But making Martine a minority working in the lab kinda smelled like another bowing to woke for the sake of bowing to woke. I'm all for NEW stories and NEW characters that explore relatively unexplored walks of life (stories that take place in Black or Latino or Indigenous communities, etc.). But I detest when woke means walking over the source material. Second, Nicholas appeared for all a few minutes. So that emotional oomph just wasn't there when Milo killed him, even if he's played by Jarred Harris. No fleshing out or character development, and so no chance to feel invested when that moment occurs.

He then makes some tests in his Morb laboratory and injects himself with Morbius juice, and turns into a Morbian. He then kills the non-morbi and injects his friend Miles Morales Morbius. Since Morbius was spreading rapidly throughout Morb City, the anti-morbius was formed to take out the morbi. Doctor Michael and Miles Morales Morbius fight the anti-morbi, and end up taking a Morbian win. Sadly, Doctor Michael was injured in the fight, and is about to die, and utters his final words, "I am... Morbin'". The city is then saved and a morbussin memorial was made for Doctor Michael. Truly a masterpiece of a film. I was at the edge of my seat every second, and was shedding tears for Doctor Michael's heroism at the end of the movie. "I am... Morbin'" Such a beautiful line, a line that will go down as legend in cinema history. I love Morbius. I thrive to become Morbius. Morbius is everything, and it is impossible to live without it.

To be fair, and I'm saying this as a fan of comics Morbius, he's a difficult character to make a movie about. He was originally a full blown tragic villain who could keep up with the Lizard. His transition to anti-hero folded into the rise of the Midnight Sons, and even that only occurred after years of feeding on the innocent and wracking up a tortured conscience as a result. Years long despair and then grasping for a vague hope of some kind of redemption by preying only on those who deserve to die. That kind of long arc is hard to capture in a 2 or 3 hour film.
I had two issues with the film itself.
One, Martine in the comics was supposed to be a Grace Kelly-level socialite blonde who loves Morbius for his genius-intellect and compassionate personality. It was a mystery to Morbius himself why somebody like her would ever fall for him. And it makes their story that much more tragic. But making Martine a minority working in the lab kinda smelled like another bowing to woke for the sake of bowing to woke. I'm all for NEW stories and NEW characters that explore relatively unexplored walks of life (stories that take place in Black or Latino or Indigenous communities, etc.). But I detest when woke means walking over the source material.
Second, Nicholas appeared for all a few minutes. So that emotional oomph just wasn't there when Milo killed him, even if he's played by Jarred Harris. No fleshing out or character development, and so no chance to feel invested when that moment occurs.
Take notes, creators- this is how you do a proper apology video. The passion, the genuine remorse, true contrition. Good on you, Charlie. I'm back on your side.
