This dude just made me realize I have been eating unripened pineapple all my life. This week I got a pineapple and waited until it was turning into golden yellow color. It was the sweetest pineapple I've eaten in my life!!!
Dont mean to ruin your day but pineapples do not ripen after they are picked- they just get softer. This is because sugar stops developing once they are picked. Grats on finally getting a good one though!
Pineapple do not ripen once you pick them. This guy knows nothing about the physiology of the pineapple. As they sit on the counter they start to ferment, not ripen! Cherries, berries, pineapple, grapes, watermelon and others are NON-Climacteric fruits and DO NOT further ripen once they are picked. They key is that they all must be picked when physiologically mature. Just pick the greenest and the heaviest when picking a pineapple, sugar weighs more than water.
Don't feel ashamed either to pick up every pineapple at the grocery store until you find the ripest one. I can feel the eyes on the back of my head when I do this and just ignore them. Those losers can have the unripe ones lol.
You can take to tip off, and turn it upside down on your counter until the sugar that settles to bottom distributes to the top. Best pineapple you’ll have in your life. And also roll your lemons and limes prior to cutting!! It’ll break the tiny pieces apart before you slice for easy juicing
As much as I'll miss the golden era of Bon Appetti videos, they've been killing it with these new videos. Really love the content that's been coming out.

Watermelons too, record speed was 23 seconds I think? PS: Did this man just trigger all of us purposely with that backwards watermelon bite? Wtf! 1:42
He also said that the pineapple core is completely inedible. Not true - if it's very ripe, the core can be super yummy, just a bit harder than the rest of the fruit
This is the type of video where I could imagine myself as a kid and this guy coming to our school to hold a small seminar to teach us about fruits and I would’ve been completely hooked and mesmerized looking forward to tell my parents all I learned so we could apply it when we go shopping. When he said that the core of the pineapple is completely inedible, it just appears into my mind the million time I’ve eaten the core and my mom use to make juice even with the skin 🥲.
"Yes! It is safe to eat the core of a pineapple. Although it is less juicy and slightly more bitter compared to the flesh that surrounds it, there is nothing unsafe about eating a pineapple core." What google said, it's edible, he just prefers not to eat it, so you're okay.
Yeah, watermelon rind is edible, although I always find the taste similar to cucumber (I think the plants are related), which I don't like while eating sweet fruit
Tip for pineapple, look for soft juicy golden bottom with greener top. Make sure the step can rip off semi easily by twisting and pulling by hand. Then before cutting, rip the top off and set it upside down for 20min-1hour. Will cause a lot of the bottom juicyness to spread into the top(since upside down) making the entire fruit equally juicy and nice. This is most important for soft ripe ones
Only thing I dislike about the softness test for avocado or mango is that it bruises them a little. And people in the supermarket go through all the fruits and squeeze them leaving them with brown spots afterwards.
I just had terrible luck buying watermelon recently (very overripe). I wish I had this knowledge before. I feel like knowing how to buy fruits is one of those important adulting secrets.
