      The ncr didn't get as big and prominent as they are in the game without being at least minimally intelligence in an engagement. Unfortunately it seems pretty likely that the Brotherhood of Steel is more reliant on their technology than they are actual tactics. This is probably why they need randoms out of the Wasteland to solve all their problems for them LOL

      @MrJustonemorevoice I'm a bit late here, but there are vast differences in how Brotherhood chapters operate. Generally speaking, the West Coast Bos (which includes the Mojave) doesn't have the rank of Squire. And West Coast chapters usually only give power armor to Paladins. There are some exceptions, but Fallout 1 establishes that the Brotherhood sees power armor as a technology only to be used by "the honored."
      Most like the BoS members we see in combat armor are Knights, who on the West Coast are mainly craftsmen and engineers. They build what the Scribes research so the Paladins can use it in the field. They can see some combat though, mainly acting as a support role to the Paladins. Bringing ammo, keeping lookout, and providing small arms backup fits that support role.
      Generally speaking, all the guys we see here in power armor should be Paladins.

    Honestly, this actually makes me not hate the design as much, I could imagine power-armor made it so the option of mounting the drum directly on the weapon was a reasonable addition, with the option of also having it able to be mounted on the back/hip like in the games/this animation here.

      It's simple, you throw a considerable force on the enemy front so that they maintain their forces and attention in front while leaving their flanks and rear exposed to attack from the flanks.
      While special operations teams and shooters occupy the high flanks and cause pressure on the enemy logistics, making it possible for little by little attrition to allow the central force to break through and thus make a central pincer tactic.
      I love how they make it seem that the simplest and most logical thing is so effective, especially taking into account that the NCR has the advantage of having very high human resources (something vital in a war of attrition and protracted, the war is not cheap to maintain and easy to supply, so the NCR has that clear advantage) which gives them an advantage to launch strategies and operations of greater size and scope, allowing them to have a greater range of maneuver and also have a greater capacity to replace losses in combat.

    This really hammers in just how poorly equipped the NCR military is as a whole when compared to the Brotherhood who can field power armor and pre-war weaponry such a laser Gatling guns and gauss-rifles. Yet it still shows just how the NCR has beaten the brotherhood on a strategic level thanks to the options afford to there militaries comparatively large size.

    • @DominionSorcerer
      @DominionSorcerer 8 місяців тому +70

      But from another perspective it also shows just how _well_ equipped the NCR military as a whole is because unlike the Brotherhood who relies on pre-war weaponry the NCR has the industry required to mass produce their own equipment in numbers far outmatching that of the Brotherhood.

    • @DaHuntsman1
      @DaHuntsman1 8 місяців тому +25

      @@DominionSorcerer It also offers a view into the fundamental ideology of both factions. The Brotherhood of Steel is all about quality, with highly trained and disciplined troops wearing power armor and high tech weapons to level the playing field for their low numbers. Compare to the NCR where while they don't have power armor and laser weaponry to the same degree as the BoS, they can mass produce "good enough" weapons and overwhelm the BoS with sheer numbers and volume of fire. And its worth noting that Caesar's Legion falls even further down the quality vs quantity ladder vs the NCR, where they are straight up using human wave tactics with spear and machete wielding fanatics against the NCR.

    • @jesusandresramirezblanco2134
      @jesusandresramirezblanco2134 8 місяців тому +15

      The truth is half true, although compared to the Legion, the NCR forces are somewhat behind, at the regional or North American level they are very well equipped and are capable of using weapons such as more or less standard assault rifles, artillery, vehicles, and use interesting tactics and strategies.
      It must be taken into account that not everyone has the capacity to arm battalions or armies in a constant or at least efficient way, the Legion and the NCR essentially have the advantage of being able to arm their armies in a more or less even and efficient way (although it may seem that way). It is difficult to organize all types of armies)
      So no, the NCR is very well equipped for this type of conventional war, although they have a great disadvantage in weapons and technology with the Brotherhood Legion, they have enough power in many aspects that can help them deal with this .

    • @jesusandresramirezblanco2134
      @jesusandresramirezblanco2134 8 місяців тому +10

      @@DominionSorcerer Exactly, the NCR has a weapons and equipment industry that almost no one has on the west coast of the United States. You can equip your forces with more or less uniform equipment, with rifles, machine guns, grenades and so on, not only in terms of weapons but also logistical equipment, having military uniforms, boots, backpacks, knives, food and so on.
      Not everyone has that, logistics is what wins wars in addition to military campaigns, being able to replace your losses and manage to endure military wear and tear and maintain your forces are what allow victory.
      For this reason and other things, the NCR can win the war in the long term, the Brotherhood suffers from having a smaller combat force and being tied to a very restrictive type of weaponry and logistics that end up being a burden.
      In the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, the NCR has quite the advantage over all its enemies in this regard.

    • @DominionSorcerer
      @DominionSorcerer 8 місяців тому +18

      @@jesusandresramirezblanco2134 logistically speaking we can go even deeper - the NCR is in some more obscure sources said to be the home of 1 functional vehicle per 200 people, which with a population numbering in the low hundreds of thousands would mean they have a massive amount of working vehicles. Its army is almost completely mobile.
      In New Vegas all of the US Army trucks around NCR bases, broken they might be model wise, are meant to be functional vehicles actually used by the NCR Army. It's just the game suffered from the lack of time to make dedicated NCR trucks and the game's engine would have never handled them being functional.

    What I love about this video is, how small scale it overall is. This is probably one of the most important battles at the forefront of NV, and we see... maybe 50 members of the brotherhood against maybe 200 NCR soldiers? And it feels appropiate. This is after the apocalypse, their most dire struggles would just be considered "trivial" (as much as one can consider a full scale military operation that) to us.

      A reasonable estimate for the chapter has about 300 members. I'd imagine 66 percent of the population are noncombatants. 100 soldiers are in combat. The ncr is attacking with 15x the amount according to house and the ncr said 20x. So 1500-2000 soldiers. Which is pennies when Chief Hanton mentioned they're sustaining a thousand casualties without mass social unrest at home

Honestly, the best way to have assaulted this would have been to give First Recon anti-material rifles and just pick off the guys in power armor. Armor piercing .308 rounds are able to penetrate the Enclave power armor in fallout 3, especially the head since it's way less armored and structurally weaker because of the ocular windows, so a .50 would easily punch through the T-51 variants.

Any plan which involves taking on the BoS will involve HEAVY losses, but this is one where they are using a head on assault INTO A FIRING LINE as a diversion. It's necessary to do, the first wave distracting so the flank can move into position and getting a foothold so that the second wave (the red tokens) can move in, but this is still some Omaha Beach level "we just have to throw the men into the grinder" of planning
    Moments like this would definitely make me want power armor of mechanized armor to help draw fire... but that's the stuff BoS have and I guess for the NCR to get what they lack they have to use what they have and the BoS lacks: an excess of willing Cannon Fodder
