+TC Electronic Hi. How it works with clean Stratocaster sound? What about high and mid tones? It bother me a lot and I'll be glad to hear it in action.
+TC Electronic Can you make a video of that? Also I personally want to hear it can take out the "digital" hiss that sometimes gets added when using a multi fx unit in 4 cable method and what goes before the preamp gets added thes "hiss" even if its only using a volume pedal of the multi fx unit, if it does I buy one tomorow!!!
I got the Sentry noise gate this past weekend. I just wanted to congratulate you TC Electronic team. Excellent pedal to get your rig to the next sound quality level. And to anyone still on the fence on wether this will help you with your single coil pickups hum: a huge YES. Hiss mode will be your best guitar friend forever if you got Strats and Teles. I already used the multi-band noise gate idea with Waves' NS1 and many virtual amps within my DAW and got excellent results... but the Hiss mode in this pedal for my real amp and stomps rig is on another level. I'm really that satisfied. Again, congrats!
I've never, ever, had any interest in a NoiseGate ...Then I bought a Big Muff Thanks TC, awesome demo! I'm looking forward to get this pedal soon ! :-P
What an amazing pedal! You guys are on a ROLL. Please TC Electronic, on behalf of all single-coil users, make a "How easy is it to remove 60 cycle hum using the Sentry Noise Gate?" video!
Just got mine. Excellent product. I still haven’t even get to the toneprint part of it because this thing works amazingly right out of the box. So gurls and guys don’t think that you need to tweak this the whole day to get it working - just plug it in and enjoy the silence.. I had NS-2 before and this one is much much better. The thing is, this one feels natural and you don’t even feel like you have a noise pedal in your signal and I didn’t hear any signal loss. NS-2 was eating up my signal and I could feel the latency which was a deal breaker for me. It obstructed my playing. Definitely recommended! Buy it, you wont regret. P.S. I play metal...
Just got mine, a few minutes of tweking and everything is nice and clean. Plus I can use a booster in front without any hiss, plus it seems to catch unwanted noise from springs and screws. I'm in love.
@@tcelectronicI’m tying to connect my I phone 7 to my Fishman Fluence bridge pick up and I’m having Gate tone print his knob in the middle position but it’s not doing anything as I’m not getting the green light to flash. Can you please let me know what I’m doing wrong
Very impressive. Just purchased one earlier this eve. Need especially for studio recording, due to 60 cycle hum/other various background noise at times. Will be interesting to hear the major difference between my old Rocktron Hush 2CX Rack Mount Noise Reduction from the mid '90s. After viewing video...realize your pedal has far more versatility, features, top quality built (like all TC Electronic products). Amazing how technology has greatly advanced past several years. Cheers
by plugging the guitar in the input and the effects in the loop, can we have different settings to eliminate the 60 cycle hum and the effects noise separately within the software?
Awesome choice to make!!! I'd love to see a new line of nova pedals. Maybe one that has one side with and octave and a fuzz. Or one with a graphic eq and a parametric eq. The nova series was and is awesome along with the tone print pedals. Keep up the good work. My board is 90% TC!!!
Toneprint for sentry needs detailed explanation! I've tried to play with it and in the end it's either too hard or too slow (especially with palm mutes there is always noise before it the gate closes, I use four cable method btw) sorry but so far I can't find the settings right for me.
I've heard this is a good noise gate. I'm using a Mesa Boogie Mk IV with high quality effects and cables.. I'm detecting hardly any noise from my pedal set up but the amp itself sure makes some loud background noise on the crunch and lead channels. Will this pedal cure that issue without interfering in any way with the tones I get? If so would the pedal go before the amp or in the loop? Many Thanks
Hi, I am struggling getting the effect I need when playing lightly on my Plexi (it has an effects loop but didn't try the 4 cable method yet). Being a noisy amp by itself if I pick lightly the noise floor conflicts with the quiet notes notes resutling from light picking. It is better on the HISS mode but not there yet. I guess deep diving via the toneprint editor should bring the solution, but I am kind of overwhelmed by all the settings in there... Could you make a video to walk me or other customers through that specific task? Thanks guys - love all your pedals so far.... :-)
If you have a Jet City amp than you WANT THIS PEDAL!!! The Decimator won't cut it and the NS-2 is a toy. All my pedals are TC Electronic except my wah (Crybaby) and my JCA50h absolutely loves them. Only have one left to get, that SPARK MINI BOOSTER!!! \,,/
Two things: When will this be available? And, how about using that alien tech to make an all-in-one fuzz that delivers EVERY classic and modern fuzz tone known to man..? Come on now, you can do it!
+Jack S. Thought you might have meant the Muffaletta. Thats just a Muff based pedal, I would like to see one that covers different circuits, ie: buzzaround, super fuzz, companion, maestro, etc. That would be a must buy pedal. The JHS is a great pedal though, picked it up last week. Does not disappoint.
It's amazing how other pedal makers don't seem to be as innovative as TC. Looks like I'm returning my EH Silencer for this. I should've known better considering my board consists of a majority TC Electronic pedals :p
I love this pedal, but a small change that would be helpful is put the input\output on the bottom, send eturn on top. Not being that way makes it a little hard to loop pedal chords.
Just bought one of these... The loop is giving me issues though... Im using the pedal input/output to the fx loop send return on my amp, and want to have my mod pedals through the sentry loop... does not seem to be working though... all cables are arranged properly...
How does the hard gate feature work? Is it similar to the Boss NS-2 mute mode setting where it always has the noise gating active and completely mutes the signal when the pedal is engaged?
Is it possible to side chain the my fx loop with a split guitar input going into the Sentrys input? A bit like the Zuul. Just trying to incorporate into my rack rig.
+brian patrick.... CODE RED, CODE RED!! The secret of our alien tech has been divulged! Abort mission... I repeat, abort mission of world tone domination!
Can you use the Sentry via just the input/output and still get the effect or do you have to use the send/return? I have a pedal board/pre amps rig that goes direct to PA and I'd really like to not have to route the entire chain with the send/return. On top of that if I have a split signal can I use the send/return as a second channel of gate? Thanks! Love the TC pedals, building quite a little collection of them. :-)
oh man it looks great! but can i put it in the end of my signal chain (input-output) and use the loop (send-return) with the fx loop of the amp to gate both?
Just got mine, LOVE IT! Question, though. What is the 2nd dip switch on the back of the pedal. I know the first is for the buffer, but what's that 2nd one?
+MrWolf5150 You know, I never did. If I had to make an educated guess, I would say it's one of two things: 1) It's Kill-Dry Mode. Like on their modulation pedals, it removes the dry signal from the path and leaves you only with the affected tone or (since this isn't a modulation effect) 2) It's nothing and just there as a by product of the circuit boards that TC uses. Still waiting, though.
+Chris Reeves - hi, man. The second DIP-Switch doesn't do anything. As you guessed it used to be a kill-dry option. But that's really only relevant for mod and time-based effects. Hence it's just there for "looks" on the Sentry ;)
At the moment I'm running two noise gates in my setup. One at the end of the guitar chain, and the other in my effects loop. Will one sentry be able to do the same job as both of my noise gates?
Can someonw help me? The noisegate is te only pedal Im using, and a tcelectronic tuner. where do I put the noisgate? in the input of the amp into my guitar or in the fx loop?
+Guitar Anthony I just traded in my Decimator G String for this pedal. The G String has a fatal flaw; the Dec loop is buffered and not true bypass. In my case, I have a Jet City 50 watt head and it has a serial, buffered LINE LEVEL effects loop. When running the preamp through the decimator loop, and then having a buffered OD (BOSS SD-1) going to the amp input, I'd get a horrible CB Squelch-like sqeal. Took the G String out of the equation and the problem was solved. I've since replace ALL my pedals with TC Electronic pedals and my amp loves them. This noise gate/suppressor is the best pedal-based one I've used to date, and I've used them all. Good on ya TC Electronic!!!
From what I read, it doesn't work with a battery... If that's the case, it sucks, since I already feel I've got too many cables on the floor. Do all noise gate pedals need power cables to function ?
My problem is 60 cycle hum with semi-clean guitar tone. I just need to get rid of the vintage single coil noise and the chorus noise. I am not really a high gain player, just overdrive. Will this product work well for me or is there something else that would work better for clean guitar players with noise in their rig?
Hey man, a bit late, but I'm using it since 2017 and have 0 regrets. The signal path I use goes like this: Guitar -> Tuner -> Noise Sentry (input) -> Noise Sentry (Send) -> other FX -> Amp input -> Amp FX loop send -> Noise Sentry (return)-> time based FX -> Amp FX loop return -> Cabinet. Works like a charm. It blocks all noise (except from the time bases FX which are non-existant). So everything from my amp, fx loop and all the noise from my pedals before the amp is muted amd responds only to the direct input of the guitar so it NEVER gets confused about whats noise and what are the notes. It opens when I gently slide a finger over a string and it lets my notes ring naturally. Since it only hears the guitar:)
+Tobi Wirz nope. No reason at all. It's frequency specific, so you can even hone more in on the bass frequencies via the TonePrint Editor if you want to :)
+Alan Angel yeah :) but the real magic lies in the TonePrint Editor. It's a multiband Noise Gate so you can perfectly tailor high, mid and low frequencies so they fit your setup and needs. Plus you can do tons of other cool stuff with it. There's a vast amount of parameters to fool around with :)
+TC Electronic You know how to make a geek fall in love. I just need a way to run the Toneprint Editor in Linux (I will probably try WINE at some point). Signed, Someone who plans to mod a 2/3 scale Jackson Dinky to produce 288 distinct tonal options.
Nobody has built an intelligent multiband noisegate still (as in multiband EQ). You turn your noisy pedals on, don't play anything, let the pedal analyze the nature of the noise and gate the detected noise frequencies only, letting the rest of the signal untouched. Something you click on to analyze and set, and then activate as a noisegate, having the standard noisegate parameters (threshold, attack, release ...), and for instance a "Q" setting to widen or tighten the gate around the detected noise frequencies, and a "priority" setting to either gate all detected frequencies or prioritize the highs, mids, or low frequencies. The rest of the architecture could remain the same as all noisegate's standard features (series or loop switching).
I've always wanted a full board of just TC This and the quantum comp have made it a dream come true Thank you for listening to your customers and making such amazing products
I run a Xotic SP compressor, Bogner Red Estacy, Catalin Bread Dirty Little Secret and Boss BD-2 tone stacked in it's own true bypass loop, I have an ADA MP-1 tube preamp run at pedal level (notoriously noisey) in a true bypass loop, Last is a Wampler SLO Stortion with a global lead boost. I have always run through a Boss NS-2 due to it's loop. The tune sculpting is done with a Boss PQ-3B parametric pedal. Volume is attenuated with a small volume box. A Boss Tu-2 splits B goes into dry output amp A is sent into T.C. Electronics Nova Modulator and Nova Delay. Last is a BiYang Stereo reverb. The signal goes from the pedal board stereo into a SHURE M60 tube phono preamp, the it goes to an ADA Microcab II input, thru put goes to a pair of Orange Micro Terrors. Into a stereo 4x12. I hope to add the T. C. Electronics Sentry in to my rig if it can do a superior job than the Boss NS-2.

The best of review of noise gate
It's amazing how other pedal makers don't seem to be as innovative as TC. Looks like I'm returning my EH Silencer for this. I should've known better considering my board consists of a majority TC Electronic pedals :p
Where do you guys recommend placing this pedal in the signal chain, in order to gate the noise from high gain amp distortion?
I love this pedal, but a small change that would be helpful is put the input\output on the bottom, send
eturn on top.
When are you guys gonna make a toneprint equipped wah?
this is awesome; lol@you shall not pass (= I wish i could buy this in Pakistan, we're deprived of all the goodness from TC Electronics.
When will be a TC Electronic FUZZ availible??? Pleeeeaaaaaseeee !!!
How does the hard gate feature work? Is it similar to the Boss NS-2 mute mode setting where it always has the noise gating active and completely mutes the signal when the pedal is engaged?

+TC Electronic haha no wait! dont leave, I didnt say it was a bad thing. stay and reprogram our leaders for peace and prosperity.
Just got my gate. I can hear a click threw the amp when I turn it off and on. That normal for this pedal
Would the pedal still work fine without the editor? Or is that needed for it to work at 100%?
+Kevin Torres - it works great straight of the box. The editor is more for really nerdy and specific noise removal needs :)
can't wait to try the 60 cycle hum reduction. but first make it mini. in fact make everything mini!!

Have you had an answer to your question ? I'm still trying to find this out myself.
+TC Electronic Awesome. I was pretty confident of that, but it's nice to put curiosity to rest. Now, about my prize... :D
Is it available yet? I can't find a price anywhere. Where can I buy one, and how much is it?!?!
+dizzle49er it'll market at around $129.99. It's available early October :)
*WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
At the moment I'm running two noise gates in my setup. One at the end of the guitar chain, and the other in my effects loop. Will one sentry be able to do the same job as both of my noise gates?
Yes, this can do a 4 cable method that gates both the preamp and the input
I had the Silencer, and the delay in attack really bothered me. Night and day difference compared to the Sentry i now have!
He reminds me of the hound :'), he's the lil brother of the hound and the mountain :')
Can someonw help me? The noisegate is te only pedal Im using, and a tcelectronic tuner. where do I put the noisgate? in the input of the amp into my guitar or in the fx loop?
does it also cut out the loud beeping sound when you have your master volume really high ? ( the problem i am having when i'm at band practice)
Vincent van Zundert feedback? Yeah, thats what a gate is for
I'd like to see a mini of this :D
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW....
How does sentry works connected just to the fx loop of the amp? Is it a good way to get rid of all that crapy noises and stupid feedbacks?
nice but not perfect..
its change my tone of evh 5153 much via loop.
but its nice pedal and for the money i dont know anything better than this
The compressor is a done sale but I'll have to think on this one. Gonna take a lot to lure from the ISP Decimator.
From what I read, it doesn't work with a battery... If that's the case, it sucks, since I already feel I've got too many cables on the floor. Do all noise gate pedals need power cables to function ?
No, the Boss NS-2 and ISP decimator can run on 9v battery.
I've read too many bad reviews of the NS-2... Guess I don't have that many choices. I was going for the Sentry anyway.
The NS-2 has worked great for me for many years but this thing has me interested.
My problem is 60 cycle hum with semi-clean guitar tone. I just need to get rid of the vintage single coil noise and the chorus noise. I am not really a high gain player, just overdrive. Will this product work well for me or is there something else that would work better for clean guitar players with noise in their rig?
Hi TJ. With some tweaking in the TonePrint editor, this is possible! :-)
Thank you! Your product's price is right.
Wow interesting.
Can it remove the constant distortion/drive hum that is present while playing?
Hi Morten. It can't really remove noise whilst playing, only in the moments between. :-)
Ok. But the send/return + hiss-option can help eliminate more drive pedal buzz/hum no?
If this noise to is due to your amp, yes :-)
3:06 WtF First time seeing the tone print beaming. THE FUTURE IS NOW!
I gotta try out that send /receive feature...
So what do you do? Just put it through the FX loop as well as front of amp?
Anyone done it in RL??
I am curious how much an improvement it is versus the Boss NS-2!
It's like VHS vs 4000k HD
damn tore can play!
+Phong Lee he sure can :)
Can I get a copy of your diagram you made on how to set the sentry and padals to the amp.

+Tobi Wirz nope. No reason at all. It's frequency specific, so you can even hone more in on the bass frequencies via the TonePrint Editor if you want to :)
+TC Electronic Thanks guys, just ordered the pedal. :-)
toneprint for a noisegate? i don't get it
Any plans for a Hall of Fame x4?
+Nelsonbeks no current plans, no. Sorry.
Artist tone prints? For a noise gate?
+Alan Angel yeah :) but the real magic lies in the TonePrint Editor. It's a multiband Noise Gate so you can perfectly tailor high, mid and low frequencies so they fit your setup and needs. Plus you can do tons of other cool stuff with it. There's a vast amount of parameters to fool around with :)
+TC Electronic You know how to make a geek fall in love. I just need a way to run the Toneprint Editor in Linux (I will probably try WINE at some point).
Signed,
Someone who plans to mod a 2/3 scale Jackson Dinky to produce 288 distinct tonal options.
It there's anything sexier then Thor it's Thor using that recto :O

Thank you for listening to your customers and making such amazing products
lioneye66SID thanks, man. Truly means a lot :)
Wait what?!?! Use your phone to beam a patch into your pickups and the pedal will download the new patch?!?! WTF!!!!

This the "Official" Video really wasn't much help. I needed more in depth help to advise me on initial installation and set-up. NOT impressed. I'm sure I will be once I've played around with it and watched other much better Vids!!
