I'm a huge fan but disappointed that Durban was left out, or any mention of the influence SA Indian food has on SA. Durban has the largest population of Indians outside of India in one city. We have been here for generations and consider ourselves South African and a part of the culture. This makes me question what other omissions you make in other videos.
As a fellow South African, this is a wonderful video showing our country, however, i can't believe he never went to Durban nor did he do the Indian cuisine. Also, Cape Malay food has much more to offer like for example Bobotie or koeksisters. He needs to come back and do the eastern part of our country. He even periperi chicken you missed.
I’m not South African but it’s good to see. The reason he makes a lot of money is that he goes to different countries and he goes to villages and eats different types of foods . So good for him !
This is not just a travel & food review channel....This is a cultural documentary that makes me appreciate our planet and I will support this channel till I'm an old woman. 👍🥰🥰
Congratulations to Sunny's travels to S A. Best production I ever viewed during the food review episodes. Edited to perfection. Witty & entertainingly special. Amazing production work.

In my opinion SA has Amazing potential, unfornunatly i've learned that France and South Africa share the same big problem : really cool and inventive people but stupid politicians 😅

Watching this made me both happy and sad. Happy because my country finally made it on here and you finally came to see its beauty and experience it's different food and cultures but so so so sad that I'm one of your biggest fans and you left out my city. I'm from Durban, South Africa, which is also one of the main cities and I speak to the Indian community when I say I'm deeply sad that we didn't get to host and feed you. Especially a good real Durban bunny chow and all the snacks. When you do return, please allow us to host you.
Im a fellow South African who now lives abroad. I think you have done an amazing job of capturing the diverse cultural wealth of the people,…….and of course the food that feeds the people. Your making me miss home.

It would have been amazing to have seen the fusion of cultures through food . They’ve been Indians in South Africa for decades . They showed ‘Achaar’ in the vid which means ‘pickle’ in Hindi. I absolutely love the energy here ! - these ladies are so real . Funny, very knowledgeable of the local scene . Honestly a place I’ve always wanted to travel to.
This is a brilliant documentary that deconstructs South African society through food. Understanding the history, ingredients, and cooking techniques offers valuable insights into South Africa's cultural, social, and economic complexities. Shared culinary experiences help break down barriers and promote dialogue among different communities. Well done Mr Sonbuchner and crew.
I don’t know what you might be going through Or what situation you’re in right now but I no god is there for you and he loves you God bless everyone who came across this.🇧🇸❤️
Hi Sonny. You have become a very popular (and also famous) person with your immensely satisfying food review show. It is always a pleasure watching your shows, especially for the fact that you seem to remain humble and appreciative of the people and their cultures. You're also a pretty funny dude. That does make a difference. Thank you for visiting my home country (South Africa). I did not see you trying any samoosas. There are many many people in my Country who make those REALLY well, also routes, also so many different "potjies" and braais, etc, etc. There is so much more to enjoy. Please return again. AAAPeace.
One thing you have to say about us South Africans: WE LOVE OUR MEAT! I think a lot of South African cuisine is kind of the same, but also every ethnic/geographical group have their own special and unique way of making it and then of course each of us have a few dishes that are just completely unique to that ethnic group. Nevermind segregation, talk about INTEGRATION! Absolute amazing show of so our heritage within less than two hours! PS: Kallit (coloured) from Namaqualand in the Northern Cape here. You made a massive curve towards the opposite sides of the country and missed us up here towards the northwest border of the country! And yet I still feel included as a South African.. Those are my people and that is our food!
Boet!......You're right about the meat. I live in the Eastern Cape on a small holding just outside East London. There is a farm not to far from me with some nice cows. I walk passed them and my mouth waters.
This guys has put Africa dishes to world map ,as a zimbabwean i wanna say thank you sir, what a humble open minded American man please keep doing what you do 👌 i enjoy watching you eat some unusual game dishes ie Apes etc
please come back to South Africa again, we have 11 official languages for each tribe. It would be great to show each tribe and the food they eat. It should be great fun. 😁😁😁😁😁
1:44:08 Has to be the wisest thing I've ever heard a person say. If only more people in South Africa thought this way, maybe this country would be much better.
This is beautiful to watch. The facts. The history. The different cultures that we as South Africans miss out on due to segregation and being separated. We have such amazing cuisines. We need a channel like this in SA and someone like Sonny to bring everyone together.
Did you also notice that other part of South African culture coming through so strongly? Boozing it up! SAB South Africa's biggest killer by far and one of the main reasons for our poverty and low productivity. Especially when done on a Monday morning. You want to know why we are so poor and China is so rich? Because they don't do that on a Monday morning.
Yes! Love it I’d love to see you collab with other food review influencers. You are probably one of the most influential respectful yet American food review shows. Please shed light on all those who do what you do it is so good! The show gives off this feeling. Fun show! Good food! Let’s go! Didn’t finish the video (I will) but when I finish it I know it’ll just be the same experience the whole way through. Bravo! Yeeeeeeah!
Exactly!! I know a lot of people who hunt and get criticism for it, but they use every part of the animal they can.. if anything, the hunters have more respect for the animals they go for.
So I found this channel last June 2022 when I was hospitalized for septic shock. This channel single-handedly restored my appetite. A year later and I’m still hooked! Just ordered a humongous chicken sandwich to celebrate… and because this episode kept my mouth watering for so long😹😹😹
I've watched a lot of your shows, but I think this is your best. Beautifully done. Great content, and great hosts that you found and worked with. I love how you stayed focused on the food, but also gave non South Africans a flavour of the different cultures of my beautiful country. South African Minister of Tourism owes you a beer. Take a bow
Well done Sonny!!! You portrayed the SA culture perfectly. As a Capetonian ex-pat, this really evoked some serious memories, especially the Cape Town chapter. Thank you and keep these interesting vlogs coming. Not only do you look like a ROCKSTAR, you are one too many. Cheers to more travels and adventures 🥂👋👍😘
You are seriously the best. You and your team are great at making this kind of content and I love all of your videos! Great sense of humor, great editing, great narration and information. So effin cool. Keep up the awesome work guys!!
Sonny, I have been sub'd to your channel for years now. Its been a pleasure seeing the world through the lens of your cameras, and the crew is amazing for the shots they get. I appreciate the way you look at the world through food, and how even with the years of "over weight" issues, you found a reason and the will power to lose it. It gives me hope that my goals are obtainable, to say the least. Thanks for being who you are, and thanks for bringing the world to our screens. Much love! Jon From Texas
I like Gregs attitude. He reminds me of several of my hunting buds. And he looks like he could keep up with us when the food and beers come out. This was a great video. 👍
I am so jealous, i love your channel and as a South African all i wanted was for you to come to South Africa and want to meet you so badly,🎉🎉🎉hope you enjoyed it
I don't know how, with all the food content my wife and I consume, we haven't come across this channel until now. Maaaaad Anthony Bourdain vibes, and I absolutely love it. Keep it up, very excited to start watching the rest of the videos here.
I appreciate the food, the culture, and everything you showcase, but for me, the main reason I watch your channel is your emotional intelligence. You've mastered the perfect balance of curiosity, honesty, and respect for foreign cultures. It's a pleasure to watch something that could easily veer into awkward territory, exposing underlying negative sentiments rooted in our complex history. Instead, you manage to let every culture shine beautifully. I also agree that it would be great to see you explore our East Asian and Indian communities. Personally, I’m curious to know if our Chinese community has any uniquely South African-Chinese hybrid dishes. We rarely hear much about South African Chinese culture, and it would be fascinating to learn more about it.
Honestly the best video ever. Lol maybe I'm biased because I'm South African as well. You really did only scratch the surface on what South Africa has to offer but done it brilliantly. I feel it was a missed opportunity not to do the most prominent culture of each province and should definitely have add durban and the South African Indian culture and their influence as well. But overall amazingggggg video 😊😊
❤ I love the respect and dignity the show gives the cultures it visits, I am learning a lot from this show, I am also a South African living in Norway. Please come to norway. 😊😊😊😊❤
This is why Sonny is so good at what he does. He always looks at things from the cultures perspective. Even when he doesn't exactly agree with things he still understands and respects it.

Its amazing that the love shared and expressed on this show. You can feel it through the tv, especially from the native indigenous people. Great job Sonny, truly exceptional.
Sonny my man I have a tip after watching almost every one of your videos. The term, "do you ever get sick of eating this every day?", seems to be misconstrued by some of the less english speaking people you encounter on your travels. The more remote the people the more sick means ill and not bored. Try new terminology when speaking to a remote tribesman or woman when asking if they are bored of eating fish every day or some such thing. Also I love what you do and how you do it.
Amazing video I'm an Irish man born and bred in Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 and your video's are amazing you really tell a story in every country you visit it's a pleasure to watch you try new and exciting food's.. thank you for shedding a light on different foods and different ways of living.😃
I've been on a bit of a binge of your videos lately and I'm in love!! You and the team bring these various cultures to us, most of whom will likely never experience them and it's brilliant. Also, your handling of difficult topics is superb, as you treat them all with respect and care. As for the Zebra, fantastic shot!!! 250m or 275yd is not always easy, especially with wind and shrubbery. Don't feel guilty about the first shot, the nerves get to you and it makes it all difficult (unless you're a professional hunter in which case it diminishes over time). In German its called Jagdfieber. I love that you also actually ate it, which unfortunately doesn't always happen. Waidmannsheil from Germany!! South Africa seems to be the country for me... meat everywhere🤤!!
Great vid! I came across your channel a week ago and subscribed cause I liked the pace you go at. The coverage excellently portrayed the diversity of South African cuisine. I sometimes find it difficult to explain to my foreign students when they ask about South African "cuisine", because we are so diverse here and everyone brings their magic to the table. Sorry that Durban was left out and the infamous Cape gatsby, lol. But there was a clear theme to the video and well presented. I'll recommend it to my students when they talk about South African cuisine again.
Omg Sonny❣️ Thank you for the work you do. It allows us to be able to travel through your eyes. Most of us will NEVER be able to experience the blessings you have received. Food is such a bonding experience. And like most people like myself will never know the blessings you have received from other countries and people. Im very happy I'm able to learn through your eyes and experiences. I pray one day I/ we my family and I can experience some of the places you have gone! I have made a promise to myself to take my family on some of your adventures. The Faroe Island was soooo intriguing that I now made it a personal goal or bucket list to accomplish. Sonny whether you know it or not you give me purpose. I now have a reason to work my ASS OFF TO BE ABLE TO HELP MY FAMILY EXPERIENCE THESE BLESSINGS. PLS DONT STOP WHAT YOUR GIFTED AT. AND I TO HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO GET MY DRINKING UNDER CONTROL. FOOD+FAMILY+ LOVE= MEMORIES THANK YOU SONNY
we love sonny ! he treats every culture , people with respect & innocent curiosity to learn about the history & ways of a land. so comforting to watch.
I’m so weird. Out of all the good food I saw my eyes opened wide when I saw those perfect onion rings😳. great show your the absolute best food channel. You’re funny, brave, and you educate all on precious cultures. Thank you

This series should be on TV.
WE ❤ 🇿🇦
Lebogang was the perfect host for Johannesburg. She’s a vibe😅❤️

You had the perfect company. I LOOOOVEE HER!!! She's the best. Love from Zambia Funny chef 😊😊😊
FOOD+FAMILY+ LOVE= MEMORIES
