Havel's ring suggests that replicas of Havel's gear were given to his soldiers, so maybe the person in the tower was one of bishop's warriors who voulontiered/was commanded to pose as the true Havel and have himself imprisoned in his place, possibly explaining why he is happy to stay inside, and why we find Havel's armor and weapons in Anor Londo, a place where the person in the tower couldn't possibly have put his gear, as he dies while still using it, in the tower.

Hi TerraMantis. Just wanna say that I’ve been watching these lore videos for years and I love the way you explore what the characters are going through. I think it’s really great. I know you probably won’t see this, but I just wanted to say that.
In all honesty, I think that the Dragon in Ash Lake might be him due to the Humanoid face (if I'm looking correctly). Reason why the "Havel" we see in the tower is not him is due to the ring description which states that "Havel's men wore this ring to express faith in their leader and to carry a heavier load" thus leading that the havel that is found in the tower might be one of his men. Now, the reason why I think that the Ash Lake dragon is in fact the real Havel is because of A) how the final entries in this video say how he picked up one of the scale and felt the power of the dragon within himself. B) How he believed that the only method in which to defeat a god was to be a dragon. C) If you look at the Ash Lakes dragons physical body and compare it to the human dragon form or (Baby Dragon in size) They're completely identical EXCEPT, the Ash lake dragon has wings and a tail. D) Both Dragon covenant provided items (Dragon head stone, Dragon torso stone) make it quite seem that due to havel's belief in dragons being the only stronger than gods that maybe he had found a way to become one himself during the time he was in ash lake. nothing but speculation on rough analysis /:
Even though you don't get those items off the "not real Havel" when you kill him in the watch tower, you still find those items in the palace of Anor Londo. Just saying... either way, it would appear that there's more than one set I guess.
Havel actually was utilizing the Occult element, which is known to kill the gods. It is thought that he was in league with an "actual" god, Velka, and that his treachery is the reason why the Black Ember was sealed away in the Painted World. This is why there's an Occult Club next to his armor set.
Bit ironic now that in dark souls 2 that all you see is cheap Havel mage or hex builds... or they might even mix in the jester gear so they cant be back stabbed when there is a break in spell spamming
such an amazing video , storytelling and fitting music , you made me so drawn in dark emotions , i feel just if i could cry and beat myself in ash lake , like those hollows near the sunken city of new londo , i feel that i am slowly turning hallow.
Again you have made my night TerraMantis! c: Thanks, Havel is without a doubt my favorite character in dark souls. It would be really cool to see a covenant or at least something based on his legend in dks2, The way of stone or something.
However, is it ok if I say something? I’m not criticizing your interpretation of the lore or anything like that, but I also wanna give my personal opinion if it’s ok. I could be wrong, and everyone is welcomed to disagree. But here we go. I personally don’t think Gwyn was supporting seath’s Experiments. I think Gwyn was just as disgusted by what Seath was doing as everyone else was, and there is evidence of this. For example, you know how Frampt, who worked closely with Gwyn and likely shared the same views as him, only gives 1 soul if you sell Smough’s gear? Well, if you give him anything relating to Seath, whether it be his sword, the Channeler gear, or even crystal weapons, he will only give one soul. This possibly shows that Gwyn likely looked down on what Seath was doing. Seath is described as a former confident of Gwyn, which likely means that when he went mad, he was no longer an ally. Also one more thing, although I’m not sure if it’s canon, in the age of fire comics, the silver knights were sent to investigate the disappearance of the maidens, and they faithfully serve Gwyn himself. Gwyn in my opinion isn’t as bad of a guy as most people think. And before anyone says anything, I just wanna say I actually used to have many of the same views on Gwyn as others did. However, as I found out more about him, I came to respectfully disagree, and I still love this video despite what it says on Gwyn. I don’t think he was perfect, but he was still a good person to an extent. But anyways, that’s just my opinion, and anyone is free to disagree. Well, have a good day everyone. Sorry for the long text. Hopefully I’m not being a jerk
Brmd Sloop Black Knight Shield Description: Shield of the Black Knights that wander Lordran. A flowing canal is chiseled deeply into its face. Long ago, the black knights faced the chaos demons, and were charred black, but their shields became highly resistant to fire.
The foolish knights of Gwyn became black knights in the war against demons, and they became disembodied spirits after they followed Gwyn to link the flame.
Well if you think about it for a sec havel the rock fought demons attempted to kill seath but failed and stppd out against his god not only did he do that but you are actually following the footsteps the havel the rock he was the first human being to ever do that but he failed becuase he had fear that gywn would kill his men so he was locked away he men scatered across the world without a leader thats why you find another set of havells stuff in darksouls 2 thats not havel but one of havels men anyways years later the chosen undead arrives and after he rings the two bells and makes it to anor londo he starts off where havel ended......and the dukes archives
This was absolutely amazing, this is the best presented, most detailed lore video ive ever watched the story makes so much sense and is so deep. The only thing that I think could have made it better would be sections of havel fighting through the areas in between entries in the journal just thirty seconds or so. But that would just be a nice extra the video is excellebt as it is, I'm going to watch it again now :-)
I'd wish to see this extended up to the part where it is explained why does Havel own an Occult weapon (The only weapons capable of opposing the gods). It would be awesome!

Yes, I write everything on my channel. There are 8 other lore episodes. Artorias and Gwyn seem to be regarded as my best work according to comments in those videos. That being said, I suggest starting at the beginning because the series follow an overarching idea and then is concluded with Gwyn. The series is in order on the Legends of Lordran playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLf6R7zJ4pJ54uGef6QiU82O0sKeJhQIyw.html
TerraMantis Ok. I'll check the rest of them too. Just watched all your '10 things you didn't know' videos and I was amazed at least 3 times. Good job, man. Very impressive. And thanks for replying to my comment.
I found Havel's grave in Dark Souls 2, it appears the way of white must've reclaimed his body. The large coffin is his, he was buried with his armor, the bottom has collapsed allowing his armor to fall into the waters that you can use as a way into The Gutter. Someone took his armor, gathered it up, and locked it away. The fact that the forgotton key is needed to access it speaks of somthing troubling.
I thought it would be fun to do Havel vs. Havel. We hit each other and both died. The ring did not appear, and I was doing a strenght/heavy equipment build...how fucked am I?
here is the way I see it (and probably only me...). one of the item descriptions pretty much said the havel and gywn were old war buddies, so I started with that. havel was in the fight against the dragons as a vassal of gywn himself. so he was a grand warrior, as indicated by his excessive armor and warbound title. Havel ascribed the lofty notion that had once crossed the minds of the smiths alive in the old demon's souls days: the only think hard enough to crush dragon flesh, is dragon bone. after the rages of war dragged on the day was finally won by seath, the betrayer. seath was then given a position of duke, even higher than that of his own. old hatreds die hard, and Havel the rock was no exception from this rule. and that a dragon, the enemy, could not only be accepted as on of our own, but given a higher position than even himself? A warrior who fought beside the great gywn himself!? had gywn gone mad? this was too much, even for the rock... he experiment with the occult, and even had an uprising that had some success... but it was not enough. eventually, he realized that in order to kill a dragon, he needed weapons that were as strong as a dragon was. so he traveled down, down into the arch trees to find the power of dragons... what he found down there we can only guess.
Most Badass Lore Video for one of the Pure Badass Character. According to this Video, Havel's Men might be the members of the Path of Dragon Covenant. hmm... I think I know now which Covenant I will mostly Enter. Sorry Solaire, I'm not a Sunbro.
Well, if it was Havel himself, locked up in that tower, then I have to feel sorry for him even more. Such great and honorable warrior, killed by few dozens of firebomb.
Hmmmmmhhhh.... Didn't the three red guys from New Londo save Lordran by sealing the Abyss? Okay, they drowned an entire city, but that was kinda necessary, wasn't it?
havel would likely see it this way. he is ...uneasy about magic. Also they did drown the city. I do agree with you, though I was not there and like much of history u can only hope they tried for the best answer.
Thanks! =) It did, I try to do a new video every 7-14 days but this one is probably one of the most difficult videos I've ever made from a technical standpoint. It was about 17 days ago that my most recent video (Manus) was released. A little off schedule but I do my best.
Very very very interesting perspective on this. I think it plays well into the tongue in cheek presentation of whatever item it is whose description refers to Havel being locked up "for his own good of course." The only question I have then is this: if Havel partook in the power of the Dragons, why doesn't he use this power when you happen upon him in the bottom of the tower?
Because that is not Havel anymore he was powerful but not enough to last so long in solitude at the bottom of the tower he died and became hollow and thats what remains at the bottom of the tower, a shell of a man.
As for the Dragon of Ash Lake, I believe it's just a child, or a newborn at least. Hence why it looks so different (and pretty stupid as well, in my opinion) and the Transcendent Apostles are caring for it by bringing it the scales. Which is also why Kalameet, Gaping Dragon, Hellkite Dragon are all larger than it. The Everlasting Dragons were the most powerful ones, and I'd be surprised if they were that size.
Its too bad that havel is not fleshed out as much as he deserves, such an interesting character. Oh and a badass to boot.
I like how in the 3rd entry he no longer titles himself with 'Bishop' nice touch
When I killed Seath I killed him in Havel's name
When I killed Seath, it was with a Dragon's Tooth and a Boulder. that and some Anti-Magic bug spray.
I killed Seath in Rhea's name; she will always be M'lady.
I only wish I had joined thee to fight along side the beast itself!

gwyns silverknights turned black when Gwyn kindled the first flame while they were in the kiln, as far as I know. that's why they are rather charred
These are put together so well, it's amazing.
Your creativity is exemplary. I actually prefer you over Vaati now (especially after this video). Keep up the excellent content!
I feel bad for baiting him in the top of the tower in between the doors early game
This is fucking brilliant. I´m long done with DS but this opened up a whole new perspective again.
I love this videos! I thought you had stopped with the Lore! Keep this awesome content coming.
Than why is the"not real Havel"have his signature stuff? His shield and hammer?
Even though you don't get those items off the "not real Havel" when you kill him in the watch tower, you still find those items in the palace of Anor Londo. Just saying... either way, it would appear that there's more than one set I guess.
I was figured it was cause of a balancing stand point not a lore that you don't get his stuff. So it makes sense he doesn't drop it.
lol, level 40 with Full havels set and ring with his signature weapon and shield
Great work. I can tell you love the games a lot.
Havel actually was utilizing the Occult element, which is known to kill the gods. It is thought that he was in league with an "actual" god, Velka, and that his treachery is the reason why the Black Ember was sealed away in the Painted World. This is why there's an Occult Club next to his armor set.
I'm havel the rock.
Yes
did you really become a dragon?
\[T]/ Praise the rock
Once again, incredibly video man.
Can you read what the Rock is writing?!
Wow, I didn't know Havel was so important. I just happened across him with the Drake Sword and destroyed him.
Another great addition to your lore series. Thanks for the quality upload.
do you smell what the rock is cooking?
Great stuff dude, Havel haunts so many new players but his context and significance is rarely considered, even by experienced players. Well done sir
magnificent. in depth story telling and everything else about your videos are superb.
still love an appreciate these videos
Again you have made my night TerraMantis! c: Thanks, Havel is without a doubt my favorite character in dark souls. It would be really cool to see a covenant or at least something based on his legend in dks2, The way of stone or something.
Way of the Fuck Magic. Get the Great Magic Barrier as a permanent effect.
That last comment about the cult killed me. This is some amazing story telling
Nicely done! good video
Still a good video! I forgot that I left a comment 7 years ago lol
Ha! Havel locked Logan up! Priceless XD
Ever heard any other theories as to why he is locked in there?
DiRtEPanther
Not really, just that the snake-men did it. You got any better?
I really like the editing in this video! and Havel the Rock is one of the most interesting characters in my opinion!
Having the lore told from Havel's perspective is simply amazing!
I like what he did with the signatures after the second entry...
Brave brave Sir Havel...
...his sanity gone and his freedom lost, locked in a tower by the dragon boss...
Great, now it's stuck in my head.
Praise the rock\[T]/
Hopefully I’m not being a jerk
dude this video is amazing! i can't wait for the others
The black knights didn't become black until after the flame was rekindled by Gwyn.
Brmd Sloop
Black Knight Shield Description:
Shield of the Black Knights that wander
Lordran. A flowing canal is chiseled deeply
into its face.
Long ago, the black knights faced the chaos
demons, and were charred black, but their
shields became highly resistant to fire.
The foolish knights of Gwyn became black knights in the war against demons, and they became disembodied spirits after they followed Gwyn to link the flame.
Oscar the Fateless
Oh you can shut up Oscar, you couldn't even escape the Undead Asylum.
***** YOU'LL GO TO DOUBLE DRANGLEIC!
These are brilliant videos, great job.
Well done on this video , better than most. Great choice in music as well. I also am a huge fan of Acoustic Lab's Material. :)
this was a very good video, i liked the perspective of it being from havel himself
Just defeated him yesterday
But that would just be a nice extra the video is excellebt as it is, I'm going to watch it again now :-)
This was so immersive very well done I'm glad i saw this
Your story telling skills are amazing. I tip my hat to you sir. Yet another like.
What about Havels armor in Drangleic? O:
this was fricken awesome plus your other videos... subbed !
I'd wish to see this extended up to the part where it is explained why does Havel own an Occult weapon (The only weapons capable of opposing the gods). It would be awesome!
TerraMantis, did you write that!? This is awesome! Dark Souls is practically the only game I played for the last 2yrs. I'm sitting stoned, it's 2am and I feel like my inner child just heard a nice bedtime story.
That was a very pleasant 8 mintues. Thanks dude. Great stuff.
Yes, I write everything on my channel. There are 8 other lore episodes. Artorias and Gwyn seem to be regarded as my best work according to comments in those videos. That being said, I suggest starting at the beginning because the series follow an overarching idea and then is concluded with Gwyn. The series is in order on the Legends of Lordran playlist:
ua-cam.com/play/PLf6R7zJ4pJ54uGef6QiU82O0sKeJhQIyw.html
TerraMantis Ok. I'll check the rest of them too. Just watched all your '10 things you didn't know' videos and I was amazed at least 3 times. Good job, man. Very impressive. And thanks for replying to my comment.
I imagine seath just in a bed an channelers reading stories to him to make him go to sleep
This is terrific! Incredible writing
I thought it would be fun to do Havel vs. Havel. We hit each other and both died. The ring did not appear, and I was doing a strenght/heavy equipment build...how fucked am I?
+Walamonga 1313 Fucked up
You do have megadonkey
scout wizardman What is that?
its actually called megamule it gives ya all dem items and a assload of souls
scout wizardman Oh yeah, I had it on another profile. I haven't played DkS1 in a long time.
I love how imaginative your narriaton is. Sorry for bad English.
here is the way I see it (and probably only me...). one of the item descriptions pretty much said the havel and gywn were old war buddies, so I started with that.
havel was in the fight against the dragons as a vassal of gywn himself. so he was a grand warrior, as indicated by his excessive armor and warbound title.
Great! I can tell you put a lot of effort into your work. It really shows.
I love havel he is my fave NPC in game his Amor just is so freaking cool and I love the shield and the dragon Toth in game
That was amazing. I never knew the story behind havel but now I do thankyou
CANT_STOP_THE_ROCK.MP4
That is most definitely not how you pronounce Logan..
'Tis a marvelous and saddening tale indeed. However right or wrong it might possibly be. Such tales are better left untold.
Dude you should really be doing this for dark souls 3

3 years ago! I have gone hollow waiting!😭😭💀
Wow, this must have taken forever to accomplish. Extremely well done.
Thanks! =)
It did, I try to do a new video every 7-14 days but this one is probably one of the most difficult videos I've ever made from a technical standpoint. It was about 17 days ago that my most recent video (Manus) was released. A little off schedule but I do my best.
Well with this level of quality any delays are entirely understandable.
Would have made more sense if you found Havel trapped in the dukes archives instead of some random watch tower.
Your videos are fucking amazing. Loving it.
I would have liked to see Havel use his shield's special move at some point in this video, but great video nonetheless.
Youre amazing i love these videos you just earned a sub
When i first saw him i thought he was some kind of snail-man. With a snail shell as a weapon.
We NEED a legends of Lothric!! The Abyss watchers? Nameless King? Oooooh the possibilities!!
Dude. I loved this so much.
Wow, great video. I would love to see what the theory of Havel is nowadays.
Wow what a great video amazing job!
Haveland Black Iron Tarkus are my favourite DS characters Hands Down
Loving these!
This may explain a havel follower at archdragon peak
