Hey guys, here is a little more on our rabbitry and wire shelf cages. Hope is helps. Thanks for watching, and God bless..................J Rankins Creek Rabbitry Facebook page: RankinsCreek...
Those are some really nice cages. When we had our rabbits before we moved to LumnahAcres we had the metal cages that we bought from the rabbitary store. But the poo and hair still got stuck on the cages and you would have to burn off the hair. When we make our new rabbitary we will have to try building some cages like this. Greta video Jnull0 thanks for sharing.
So So SO proud of you and Mary and the whole family. Miss our rabbits from the NC home after coming to TN. (Oh, and the dragging coverall video was so appreciated!)
Love the update. This is exactly what I needed to see. I've been collecting shelves to build cages. I'm going to breed German Angoras and maybe a French before starting other meat rabbits. Thank youuu, J!
Thanks man! I came back here after the other person's video on rabbits said to check out your set up. Thanks I live in the city and want to give them fresh water (I even filter my city water to drink) but didn't know if I could use rain water. From pickling hides to rabbits awesome channel! I think when I get some rabbits actually I will buy treats also for the good info. I like that more then patreon.
We made the same mistake with our first lot of hutches, so I'm going to start over in a new barn soon and will be doing shelf cages like you have shown. THANK YOU!
Hi there John. After seeing your chickens, we decided to add Orrington's to our small collection. We're up to 11 birds now. We love your videos. And always put our hands up with ya. Alls well in youtube land. From Beatty NV.
Hey there! I'm glad I ran across your channel! Great videos and content. A real dude getting it done! Great setup! I'm hopping to add rabbits to the homestead very soon, thanks for all the good advice!
Thank you for the information on your rabbit hutch setup. I like the looks, & think that it's a brilliant idea to use powdered wire shelving in order to keep the rabbit cages clean with very little maintenance !!! : )
Nice set up bro hope all is well keep making the great videos. Oh yea thanks for all the info the bread and the Italian meat sandwiches taste great thanks for everything you have really helped me around my home place thanks again.
You're videos are so good and informative that I have a hard time remembering to thumbs up cause I'm captivated-----then it ends and I'm like wait, what, it's over? Now what do I do. Nooooo.
I am so impressed with this style of cage! Thank you so much for sharing, this is a game changer! I’ve been struggling to reach the rabbits at the back of my current cages, and I love your top-access design. May I ask what you sit the cages on? I imagine sawhorses would work, but I was wondering if you have any more great ideas! ☺️ Thank you again!
Love the shelwire-hutches. Could you stack them? If you want to stack hutches to get more rabbits in your building could you do that and add a poop tray under these?
Those cages are so nice and clean...very clever. We have been debating getting into breeding rabbits for pets but are unsure of the market around here. Any tips on how to get started? Suggestion for you: you should put your url and contact info on your bunny bites packaging...helps with reordering and referrals ;0)
Any thoughts on setting them up in a stack? Ideas for catching everything from the top set and diverting it to the ground/away from the lower set if I stack them?
Very nice but at this time all I want to know is. How many rakes have you stepped on and how many times have you tripped? Haha stay safe thanks for sharing
I just picked up my first breeding pair. the doe won't be ready to breed till next month, but I was wondering if you could do a video on how to wean the kits. do you just take them cold turkey or what? would really appreciate it. done a lot of reading on rabbits before we got them but I can't find a lot of in depth info on that. maybe, there not much to it bit I've never raised any animals before.
My does have 8 or 9 kits so I wean two at a time at 3 or 4 day intervals. Kits are already eating and drinking well at 4 weeks of age and doe is not nursing them anymore. As you take kits away from doe it's a nice gradual process this way and they can still be put together in grow-out cage with their litter mates. You can also sex them again and separate males and females at this time if you choose.
in my area it gets 90 to 100 everyday in the summer central valley Ca and my daughter rabbit dies I stopped buying rabbits for this reason can they be kept outside at this temp what am I doing wrong or is it just not ideal for pet rabbits the climate
You are now my go to guy for rabbits. Your views about breeding and maintaining your bunnies match mine completely. Question...what do you do with the droppings that must be quite a build up. How do you clean under the cages ? Will appreciate hearing your answer if you will even find mine after so long. thanks in advance.
We just use a shovel and wheel barrow to clean and haul the manure to the garden. We will also fill up feed empty feed sacks for our friends' gardens as well, it is great on the garden.......................J
According to HD here in central WA state, the measurement between the cage floor wire is one inch. Isn't that a bit big for comfortable footing for the bunnies especially the little ones when they come out?
What if I only want to raise them for meat? Family of 3 adults? You make it look so easy..........like anyone could do it? Are they ok in cold? Does it taste like chicken? How much time until they are good for eating? Sorry for all the questions........
I just ate my first one. Much like chicken but milder flavor. 2 does and a buck will give you lots. So easy to care for, mostly just feed and water them, and handle them so they stay tame. They tolerate cold well but I like an enclosed shed as we have cold winters. 8-10 weeks is a good butchering age.
If I have two does who have kits around the same time, can all the bunnies go together when they are ready to leave their mamas? What if they are a couple weeks apart in age?
I have a house in western Pa., and I'd love to get some Standard Rex from you in the future. I was wondering if you still have someone near you with the Ch.de Argents or Creme de Argent?? I'd love to have both breeds. ( Argent & S.rex)
+TastyCritters I am not sure about the Ch de Argents, we do not have one anymore. We have a couple of little Standard rex kits now, they are broken black otter. They will be ready in about month or so. Just send me a private message if you are interested.....................J
I heard its healthy for them to eat their own poops as it has nutrients that they didn't absorb the first time around. Is this setup need different feeding seeing they don't get a chance to.
+nintendolunchbox I have never heard of such a thing & can't imagine it is true. I don't know of any species that eats its own waste. Please check this out further.
+nintendolunchbox I will read this although I still can't imagine I could let them do that. I know chickens will peck grain out of other livestock's poop. I mean, yucky!! Thanks for the link.
What's your secret to always being in a super great mood? I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you
Thanks very much for a great lesson. I am learning to raise rabbits. Your channel is excellent.
Those cages are the ultimate rabbit condo! If I had seen them before I bought all this wire I may have gone that route.
+Buckrun11 Me, too but I'm just wondering if they could be stacked with the trays like you do, tho...
Brillaint man. Love watching your vids . Your a top man. Thank u
This is a very inventive idea. Wire shelves are for more then just books and shoes. :)

That is definitely a great description! Popcorn stage! Those little boogers jump like Mexican jumping beans! LOL

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing your ingenuity
Great video as always! You are not capable of being boring!
OMG...the babies are so cute!!!! Loved seeing that!
Completely sold me on the shelf hutches! So much cleaner and nicer looking!! Thank you!
Very clean and tidy!
I find used shelves on fb marketplace and Craigslist. Now, I'm getting some free from a friend selling his house. Yayyy!
Not boring as crap!! Nice video bro
That is a nice setup you have and I agree, cleaner cages make happier and healthy bunnies.
nice clean and bright rabbitry.
You have come a long way from the cages beside the deck. Nice rabbit barn!
I really enjoy your video's they have taught me a lot.
Thank you keep up the videos
So So SO proud of you and Mary and the whole family. Miss our rabbits from the NC home after coming to TN. (Oh, and the dragging coverall video was so appreciated!)
Much cleaner with the shelving. Nice job! We used the shelving for a dividing gate in our winter poultry coop. TFS!
great setup - thanks for the video
I just found your channel and love it! What a clever setup! Thanks for the great ideas!
I love it John!

For just a dude, you have it down to an art

Awesome thanks for all the information
Great vid! Thanks.
Real nice set up John hope to get me some of those nice wire cages built soon.God Bless my friend.
I think your rabbit set-up is so ingenious. And I always laugh when you do your goober voice ("ooh, he said nipple"), lol.
nice John I love the rain water recycling idea, can be used for so many things with the animals. You are an awesome dude. God bless.
very informative . thanks.
Nice setup
Need a video of how to build the cages or specs on it. Good job . Thanks for the video
Nice pens
Never boring due....never
Thanks !
I love your videos and was wondering about the pheasants

Bob, I knew he was in Ohio. we have a big rabbit show at MSU, just thought he might be there. Thanks.
my buck is the same way too loves a good scratch
Love the shelwire-hutches. Could you stack them? If you want to stack hutches to get more rabbits in your building could you do that and add a poop tray under these?
Got it
Hilarious, I say popcorn too. Love your watering system.
I use ibc for the pigs, 55gal for the chickens.
What do you use in the winter for waterers
nice lookng cages, I was thinking about getting a rabbit or two, still not sure though
Thank you for all the info. Question! What size should the grow out cages be?
Those cages are so nice and clean...very clever. We have been debating getting into breeding rabbits for pets but are unsure of the market around here. Any tips on how to get started? Suggestion for you: you should put your url and contact info on your bunny bites packaging...helps with reordering and referrals ;0)
Tfs
When you think about it, $200 for four cages is pretty cheap. The wooden ones at the feed store are $250 and up for just one rabbit.
nice setup, poop is good fertilizer..do you keep the nails clipped on them? because I've seen a lot of people not doing it.good job !!!
This is a cool set up. Do bunnys need to have a piece of wood in the so they can get off the caging when they need to ?
Any thoughts on setting them up in a stack? Ideas for catching everything from the top set and diverting it to the ground/away from the lower set if I stack them?
I wish you would show us your pellet collection system!!!
I like the set up you have, the rain barrel was a great idea. Where can I find the lighting system that you have?
Hello from Everett, Wa. I am looking for the videos on the fans you used with Pc fan and solar panel to help keep cool. Thanks, Jenn
thanks for the good info. I was wondering is the rexs good for meat rabbit ? I know the Californian and the new Zealand are I know they get big .
Love your setup, do you sell your processed Rabbits to sell for meat? I love rabbit but I couldn't process myself 😢 ..
Love the cages and plan to try to make some. What are you using to catch the poop beneath the cages or do you just sweep it up?
Very nice but at this time all I want to know is. How many rakes have you stepped on and how many times have you tripped? Haha stay safe thanks for sharing
How do you mount the white wire cages to the wall or are they on legs?
I just picked up my first breeding pair. the doe won't be ready to breed till next month, but I was wondering if you could do a video on how to wean the kits. do you just take them cold turkey or what? would really appreciate it. done a lot of reading on rabbits before we got them but I can't find a lot of in depth info on that. maybe, there not much to it bit I've never raised any animals before.

What do you rest the wire cages on?
what are the measurements on you wire shelf cages and how many shelves do you need to make each cage
You are now my go to guy for rabbits. Your views about breeding and maintaining your bunnies match mine completely. Question...what do you do with the droppings that must be quite a build up. Yeah, the one inch is too large for the floor of the cage, we used the 1/2 inch for our floors. We found ours at lowe's................J
Okay, will check with them or someone else till I find half inch. thanks for taking the time to answer.
What are the hutches sitting on or are they hung on the wall.
What brand wire shelves do you use?
I’m new to your Chanel and was wondering what food u feed your rabbits
What happened to the Black Buck you had? Freezer camp?
Do you like producers pride for rabbit feed?
How predator proof are the shelving units?? Specifically against coyotes?
Where do you get the wire shelf’s from?
I would really like a vid on making those cages..how do u hold them together? How did u do the ends?
I feel silly...I found the vid of u making the cages.
What if I only want to raise them for meat? Family of 3 adults? You make it look so easy..........like anyone could do it?
Are they ok in cold?
Does it taste like chicken?
How much time until they are good for eating?

Hey are you still doing rabbits? If yes do you still use these shelving cages?
If I have two does who have kits around the same time, can all the bunnies go together when they are ready to leave their mamas? What if they are a couple weeks apart in age?
+persiusk We do it, but keep an eye on them the older they get the will start mating in the grow out..............J
have you ever done a new zeland cross rex
I can see they are all sitting in their nest box. Because they dont like a metal gaze floor.
hollander dutch rabbit Most of the boxes they are sitting in have no bottoms, just the wire.
I have a house in western Pa., and I'd love to get some Standard Rex from you in the future. I was wondering if you still have someone near you with the Ch.de Argents or Creme de Argent?? I'd love to have both breeds. ( Argent & S.rex)

What you call the popcorn stage we call the "Squirm" stage.
Do you ever show your rabbits in Michigan?
+Bob Denbrock john is in ohio not sure if he goes up there
I heard its healthy for them to eat their own poops as it has nutrients that they didn't absorb the first time around. Is this setup need different feeding seeing they don't get a chance to.
+nintendolunchbox I have never heard of such a thing & can't imagine it is true. I don't know of any species that eats its own waste. Please check this out further.
+Linda Smith here is a quick read , but there is plenty of articles about it www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-experts/why-does-my-rabbit-eat-his-poop
+nintendolunchbox I will read this although I still can't imagine I could let them do that. I know chickens will peck grain out of other livestock's poop. I mean, yucky!! Thanks for the link.
How do u hang them on wall
so when are u going to show us the pheasants
