***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Tuesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

The people complaining have never raised rabbits, these rabbits are domesticated animals. You are supplying them with food, water and shelter from predators, things they don't always get in the wild. Great job.
If you can get free large ceramic, etc flooring tiles, they like those during the summer (cooler) and they are easier to disinfect than wood.
Can they chew on the tiles?
@@jenniferrescott1149 no they are ceramic and perfectly safe for them
@@jenniferrescott1149 You can put tree clippings, fruit twigs in for them to chew on.
they can and do slip on the tiles and can be injured. turn them over and use the back if you use these
Habitat for Humanity Restore has reasonable tile often. I like the idea of upside down for traction.
We also raise Silver Fox rabbits and love them. We are raising them the same way you are doing but we built the nesting boxes out of hardware and attached them to the bottom of the cage.
What a great setup. Good luck to y'all! God bless.
The only questions I would have for the 2 of you is something I didn't know about. I love your videos. They are super educational. Any person that raises their own meat for food what's the animal to be cared for. Healthy animals are better food. I know people do not want to associate a live animal with the meat they eat. They just see a hunk of meat under plastic wrap. They do not know how it was raised.
Watching you put up the wire rabbit hutches reminded me of our families experience with raising rabbits. We had the does along one wall behind the garage, and down at the end of the row of five cages/hutches, we had the buck. Well, when the does would have babies, after a few days they would kill the babies. My dad talked the the folks at the feed store and found out that the does see the buck and kill the babies to keep the buck from doing it. He would do it to bring the does back into heat. We moved the buck around the corner of the building, out of site of the does, this solved the problem and we raised and ate many rabbit dinners. We also sold the pelts to make money.
You guys are absolutely right! 👍
Thank you so much for this video. It's a help to us with our rabbits. Especially the wood for them to sit on.
Looking at rabbits... very helpful!
I am so excited to watch your new adventure🐇🐇🐇🐇😊
Great video. You seem to care for your rabbits very well.
You're doing fine with your rabbits. I agree with your reasons
So true about the safety. We tried free ranging our NZW buck and it worked great until we had a snake get ahold him. The snake wasn't even big enough to eat him either. We decided to only free range during the day with our dog or us outside. I would rather have them in a pen safe, than have to lose another to predation. I live in SW Mo as well and just want to say thanks for all your advice and keep up the great work sharing experience and helping people like me start our own homestead.
Good video 👍
CONGRATULATIONS on your new farm. Have you ever thought of putting tin on stans to catch rabbet manner in one place like a short barrel having a tin it can be washed down to barrel and not only used for compost but good for worm beds
Good fortune to all of you. Looking forward to seeing how you utilize the new land.
Have you had problems with snakes getting under your chicken tractors? Any tips would be helpful.
I'm so happy for you buying this new property. It looks wonderful. I will be praying for you. Praying for wisdom, protection and joy. God bless.
I really don't understand why people would actually question what you guys are doing? I believe if they actually watch your videos and follow your channel as many of us have, you will see first hand how you guys care for your animals and tend to them. Unfortunately there will always be someone that disagrees! I think you have an awesome set up that covers what may be a potential threat to your animals! Great job looking forward to more videos of your new Homestead.
Roofing barrier is a good alternative too
good choice keep up the good work this comes from from one old viet-nam vet watch you all the time
I wish you all the best at the new homestead. It looks like the dream is coming true for you and all of your family both two and four legged. God Bless all of you and the new farm.
Best meat along with quail those 2 meats are awesome
It was so sweet when you were petting the Silver Fox male...he was like aahhh that feels good, lol!
I am watching it again. It's very educational for me. Thanks.
I’m also curious because you do take such good care of your animals and seem to care for them, how do you send them to the freezer?? That would be the hardest part for me.
I LOVE your videos! They are so informative! I am planning on starting to raise rabbits soon, I hope.
I understand they are being raised for food, but bunnies are just so darn cute, I just couldn't. I'd just cry the whole time. 😭😢🤣
If I was an animal I would want the 2 of you taking care of me! :) All your animals look very healthy and clean. I am new to watching you. Keep up the good work and thank you for the videos.
When my rabbits are taking a break from breeding, I have put them in the tractors. But they get so stressed and nervous in them. They actually prefer their up high wire cages. I just cut fresh grass everyday for them when it's available and their happy happy happy!
So happy for you guys. ❤
You so deserve the new farm, is it far for you to drive? You take such good humane care of your animals and show such concern to their well-being. Thank you.
Isn't is so ironic how people who have never tried raising animals- more than a couple pets, always have such large opinions and judgments for people that are actually doing it? I also find it ironic how we have the worst health, food, and most pollution and animal death now- than the history of the world- but everyone wants to trust human intervention more than nature- when nature never screwed the world up as much as us and our large industries have. If there is hope for the world, it is through brave, resilient, small farmers. Thanks for your videos guys!
Exciting!!!!
I can't imagine anyone who has watched this couple over the past few years ever questioning their passion for giving their animals the best life possible for however long they live. They are educated, well read researchers who constantly update their knowledge and skills. They conservatively try new ideas and always take climate changes into consideration. They keep the animals clean and well-fed and protected.
Exactly! This is their livelihood, and I've watched so many times and thought they were being too protective. But this is how Joel Salitan does it so it can't be a bad system.
The complainers are usually the same people who don’t know where their food comes from.
Amen !! Or even giving a thumbs down . They just need to scroll on . This is one of my most favorite homesteads to follow . ❤️♥️
Agreed! Why I love them is their passion for living their own best life and the best life for their animals!
Hey it's there animals they can raise them the way they see best. Which is the way they're doing it, in a professional humane way.
Happy for you guys. Thanks for sharing. I wish I had bought land years ago. Blessed to have a little over an acre. Which is in a beautiful area not far from the Atlantic ocean. Maybe some day I hope to have more acreage to raise some animals. Blessings.
I'm curious, what kind of animals do you hope to raise someday? We have a shy half acre. We have chickens and raised rabbits for food. We also had 4 Dwarf Nigerian Goats for over a year, till the county said we weren't zoned for them 😭. Plus 7 large raised vegetable garden beds, and 10 fruit trees. All on less than half an acre.
I think you can do it. Go for it! 😃 👍🏼
Sorry for the slow reply. Don't recall seeing a notification, so my apologies. Hoping to put a garden in. It'll be my 1st garden ever. Ive only tried growing grewn beans and tomatoes in the past. They seemed simple to do. The ground where I am is decent in places but alot of the land seems sandy and rocky. The plan is to start off small scale with some garden planter boxes. Watermelon is a favorite of mine as I know it Kevin's as well.😁👍. Also will be starting with celery, lettuce and of course green beans and tomatoes. As far as animals, the first additions will be raising New Zealand meat rabbit. In the near future Quail. Hoping to add Dwarf Nigerian goats also considering chickens. This will take some work to prepare. There are Hawks,Eagles, coyotes, racoons, gophers and Black Bears. Sorry to hear about your goat situation.😔
@@blackwolf073 , I think you have an excellent plan. Chickens are so easy. Do a bit of googling and you can find all the info you need.
As I'm sure you're aware, Kevin and Sarah's videos are a rich source of info.
Good luck with your mini homestead. I think you're going to have some great experiences!
Another good reason for the boards in the wire cages is the night feces. Rabbits eat some of their own poo. It's gross I know but it's good for their digestion. My uncle taught me this years and (gulp yes I'm old) years ago. Said that at night or early morning they make a special type of poo that they need to eat and while rabbits on wire only will live okay, they are healthier if they can get their own night poo and eat it.
Mybiggest problem raising livestock was suburbanites and hunters cutting fences.
Baby bunnies are adorable!
Love the new place, cannot wait to learn more about your plans and see it happen! How exciting! It is exciting to see you guys amp up the rabbits as that is how I found you guys!
God bless you guys! Love and hugs.
When I was a kid I would ride my bicycle by a home which had elevated rabbit cages. I often stoped to visit the rabbits and the man who took care of them. He had developed a market for his meat rabbits ( White New Zeelands). He had worm tanks under his cages and sold fishing worms to several of the fish bait shops around town.I am sure he also sold the compost the rabbits/worms generated.
Also the rabbits that gave me 8 good litters got to live out the rest of their lives in a fenced in area where I still fed and watered them. Some dug out occasionally but always came back for feed times when I would close up the holes. lol. They had a lot of character.
Thanks for sharing this....
I'm curious, what do you do with all the pelts from your freezer camp rabbits? Never ate rabbit....well jack rabbit once as a little kid. I understand the meat production end of it, but I'd personally have a heartfelt issue dispatching bunnys. Chickens on the other hand....no problem. Thanks for bringing us along on this new journey and for all you teach us. New place is BEAUTIFUL!
That looks like a great setup for all you rabbits. I've just gotten my first breeding pair, but now realize I might need another doe, and eventually another buck. I have a New Zealand buck and a multi colored Californian doe. I'm looking forward to seeing their offspring.
Have you done a tour of the new farm? TIA
Sounds good thoes cages are nice cages and set up....
You do a great job! Love your channel!
How wonderful! God Bless! Carmen
It's just my opinion, but you don't need to justify to anyone about how you raise your rabbits or any other animal. We enjoy your videos and learn from what you are doing. Great JOB.
I’m a city girl and fascinated with what you are doing. But I’m wondering how you keep their cages clean? I know rabbits are incredibly messy.
Fantastic video y'all. It's good that you have the knowledge of raising the rabbits and can protect them the way that you do. I'm really excited to see y'all getting the other property. Now start doing more planting. Have y'all thought about getting one of those other cows or a bull? Have a wonderful weekend.
Love your channel ... wondering how your potatoes are doing? How about garden tour ?
I've been looking into trying to start raising some rabbits for meat, they're so cute I don't know if I can do it LOL
Rabbit meat the best. Rabbit manure great compost
Congrats on the farm! Looking forward to yet more awesome videos! Do the snakes get into your chickens or other critters?!!Ewww hate snakes! Makes me shiver just seeing him hold them up. One looked liked it had just had a good meal of something!
Nice clarification.
I wonder if you'll have predator problems having them on a farm with no people at night. I assume you probably have fox and coyotes. Probably not too many bears though.
They considered. Made complete arrangements. And it isnt what you think. Not our business. They deserve privacy.
Y'all shouldn't feel the need to explain yourselves and the way you do anything! If someone watched several of your videos they would see how humanely you raise your animals ! This is another wonderful teaching video and love, love the new land ! Are y'all moving there eventually ? God bless!
I don't have enough shaded grass area to be able to support tractors. also the rabbit hemorrhagic virus is here in texas now so i won't put them on the ground. i have questions. i know you got rid of the silver fox rabbits. was there a reason for that? also is your daughter showing her rabbits? if so will you do a video on how she manages them? it may be great for other kids to see this.
Can you use the quarter inch wide wire for your tractors?
Will you put a nesting boxes in the new cages when needed? Great job.....
Congratulations on your beautiful property! So excited for you. Do you make your own rabbit wire cages? If not where do you purchase them? God bless you and your girls. ❤️🙏❤️
Do you all have issues with ticks and fleas with your rabbits? Do you use flea and tick collars or some kind of topical treatment?
We have never had a problem with either which seems odd since they are prevalent here.
Congratulations on your new farm! Do you sell your silver fox rabbits? If so, how can we purchase? I’m a Missourian!
Don't you wish people would mind there own business thanks for info
Have you done video on sexing the rabbit's? I was told by an old timer that all females had the pouch on there neck( dbl chin). Not sure if that's true. We are planning on raising rabbit's by next year.
One question I haven’t seen asked nor answered is on pest control with rabbits. How do yunz control fleas and ticks, especially with the tractors? Thx!
Someone asked that and they said surprisingly they've never had a problem.
So happy for y’all. God is good! Do y’all sell the rabbit pelts ?
Thank you! At this time we do not
If I may answer to why not... I was watching older videos where Kevin was skinning a rabbit. He said they don't save the pelts because rabbits are too young, and the skin falls apart at that tender age Check two years ago an 8 to 9 eps series of rabbits from birth to freezer
what will you do with the fur of the silverfox?
I thought in the U.S. you had wabbits, and not rabbits 😆
Wascally Wabbits!!
Are ants an issue with hanging cages? They sure are with hutches.
Are you going to move to the farm?
Have you ever considered cooking and eating the snakes? I herd that they taste just like chicken.
Sir you have every man’s dream 😅awesome wife
I don't raise rabbits f0r meat and never plan to I'm getting a rabbit as a pet tho but if u raised them for meat I would definitely use the rabbit tractor because they can get grass and shade so if I did I would use them but I wil never
Well those snakes would of been enough for me omg I am scared of snakes but I love the bunnies
do yall clean the rabbits yourself and if so what do you do with the pelts?
Is there a mouse issue with the cages and the feed?
Why did you kill the 2 snakes ? Couldn't you call a state official and have them relocate the snakes.
How can you feel ok with your animals at another site ? I would be concerned about predators (snakes, foxes and dogs) and theives. Does your sale include the house? Can you fix that up ?
They considered. Made complete arrangements. And it isnt what you think. Not our business. They deserve privacy.
I am looking for Breeders to start raising meat rabbits. I am wondering where in Missouri you are located?
😯👍👍👍👌❤❤❤
Once she picked the buck up by scruffing... I had to stop. I raise meat rabbits and breed also, and would Never subject any rabbit to scruffing!
Will you be moving to the new farm or continue to live at your existing one?
Are you guys going to live on your new farm or just go back and forth?
Even though I think ideally they should be on the ground, I don’t think there is anything wrong with them being off the ground so much as I just think the cages aren’t adequate for the rabbits quality of life. I think they are a bit small and the small board isn’t enough, I think they should have a box to sleep in or at least a bigger board. I also noticed with your cages you have on the ground you don’t provide a box for them either. Just my opinion. I’m not saying you guys don’t care for your animals as I can see that you do. They are killed to provide people with meat and I think all animals should be treated with the utmost respect until that time comes! And their comfort and quality of life is very important. God bless and I wish you all the very best ❤️🙏🏼
Funny how u r having to educate the city folk.
I am from the country and don't know anything about raising rabbits.
Lol
@@deannamarie4149 lmao and I'm from the city and we used to raise rabbits.
I am 71 my parents came from the farm. We raised rabbits in an urban environment and Chickens as well. We did not mistreat them but some folks today would have thought us cruel and uncaring which could not be farther from the truth. They try to give the animals more credit for intellect, feelings, and desires, than they deserve by light years. None of them have dreams of a better life.
Do you have to treat your rabbits and other animals for fleas?
Why don't you use automatic waterers.
I kinda wondered the same thing. The cages and equipment don't look new, so it's probably stuff they already had from when they had the larger rabbitery.
Those bottles are a pain to fill every day, and during hot spells you might have to refill them. That's not too bad if you or a kid can go out to do it. But having to travel a few miles to check every day gets old.
I'm guessing one of the first improvements Kevin and Sarah will do is installing automatic waterers.
Just curious as to why you do not provide hay to your rabbits?
We do give them hay and fresh grass. Just didn’t show it on the video.
Oh ok. I just never saw any hay in the cages or hay racks and thought maybe there was a reason. Thank you for the reply.
Nothing against your Channel or what you're doing but personally I could not kill rabbits they're just too beautiful
It’s a decision that everyone needs to make. We like being in control of our own food supply but understand it’s not for everybody.
You get hungry you will.
4 or 5 days no food you will and be happy about it.
Maybe not doing the deed but when you have a full belly you will.
I think rabbit is tasty.
Ok u have shade I don’t at all I live in Texas what would you recommend for me to raise a rabbit no breeding just one buck
How far is this farm from where you live? Will you move or continue to run two places?
Buying land is always a good thing. I hear they ain't making it any more... Good luck and blessings.
That is what my dad always said...buy land, God ain't making any more.
Volcanoes make new islands in the middle of the ocean. You can get new land there.....
How close is the new farm to your current homestead? I am so excited for your family!
Is there a house on your new farm?
Yes I wondered the same
Is likely very close
They considered. Made complete arrangements. And it isnt what you think. Not our business. They deserve privacy.
CONGRATULATIONS on you new farm. I'm so very happy for you!
Raising rabbits. In cages , off the ground is perfect for many reasons. I lovebthe fact after they are old enough you raise them on the ground. Excellent idea. Y'all are
Doing it right. Ignore the naysayers. Lol.
As usual a great and helpful video. Thanks.
I hope I can articulate this in a way that makes sense. Watching your last (exciting!) video, I, too, was concerned about the rabbits in the cages. But, I've followed you for long enough that I know your characters, and I know that whatever it is that you are doing, whether it makes sense to me or not, is for the best. You are thoughtful, meticulous, compassionate people, and I know that you would never do anything to harm your animals. It's the same approach I take in my relationship with God. Whenever he does something that I don't like or understand, I focus on his character, not on his actions. I know beyond a doubt that he is compassionate, merciful, and loving, and that whatever it is he is doing is for the best. Even so, thank you for explaining your methodology to us. Knowing your characters, I assumed there were good reasons behind it. I knew just there was so much more than the tiny little snippet of the cages that was in the video. And I was right.
God is not a only compassionate, loving, and merciful TRIUNE LORD but he is also a righteous, Holy ,glorious, sovereign, majestic, wrathful , just God. I know that wasnt the point of your comment but I just wanted the reader to know the entire truth. In this day and age of God is love love love and God loves everyone(which is a lie) ; people need to know that God will sentence them to the lake of fire for an eternity of they do not repent and turn from their sin and trust in Christ. So many are guilty of idolatry. Are you?
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3You shall have no other gods before Me. 4You shall not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens above, on the earth beneath, or in the waters below.…
They have made up a god in their minds that suits their sinful life. His name is satn who masquerades as light!!
2 Tim 4 :3-4, gal 1:8, ephesians 2:5
If our God isnt biblical ; he isnt YHWH/ADANAI!
May the Lord bless those who trust in Christ with all of their hearts, minds ,souls, and strength. Amen.
many people have a hard time understanding the difference between a pet and a farm animal but I think you are doing great at raising your animals.
Pets have names
Farm animals have numbers
Congratulations on the new place and thank you for sharing so much helpful information.
