I got plenty of people that told me "you don't need 4 nesting boxes for those chickens" "you don't need a coop that big for 6 chickens, idiot" "you're stupid for putting tile in the hen house" lol. I have happy and healthy chickens....just like your awesome rabbits! Just make sure it's level and plumb, wouldn't want them New Zealanders lodging a formal complaint!
I just watched your videos on building the cages with closet wire. I was having trouble figuring out what type of cage to build. Those videos fixed that problem for me. The wire on the bottom of the nesting box is a great idea. Thanks for these videos.
that is a great box no doubt. the only thing I do differently is I have stopped putting a wire bottom on at all. the cage floor acts as the bottom and when its time pull the box just lift and scoop the fur and straw out of the cage. the box will be still clean and ready to go.
your ideasare great...wood holds germs no matter how you clean them and all the stuff you clean wood with is NOT good for rabbit health and extra space is good for mother bunny so there tell that to your trolls doing great thank you for sharing God bless
Your intelligent response was golden. I will most certainly repeating it when my husband says that I'm giving our Cinnamon doe too much space. (Cinnamons are about the same size as New Zealands)
I use those same wire bottoms on my nest box. I have had babies get their feet stuck a couple of times, BUT it was only with one rabbit that liked to dig her nest all the way down to the wire before filling it with fur. We found we had to really overfill her nesting box so that she did not have to dig so deep to get the hole she wanted. I love having the wire bottoms for the same reasons you said, we just had to cater to the one rabbit's needs. Also, we have shorter tops on our boxes so that our does can jump on top to get out of the reach of the babies for a while. I find they get very frustrated if they have a large liter pestering her for milk all the time.
he is doing what he does best and let's people know that's he just doing what he know and that's why I love this Chanel. thank you for being your own man
I agree with the size of the nest box. All survived. My full grown breeders are ten pounds and my largest litter was 12. While tiny when born, they grow fast.
Big Guy, you are never boring!!! I moved to a new place in a forest setting. They have chickens and bunnies, I love it!! Hope You and Lupita and kids are well
been their done that, I use to make videos when I owned a leather company and started every video with ( This is how I do it Find what works for you) and always had people telling me I was doing it wrong, even If I was making money doing it my way. I ended up stopping the videos and deleted almost every one of them except the first ones I made, Your doing a great job keep it up
Good job but you didn't show me your building permits and your plumbing permit LOL 😂 keep up the good work I like it thanks for sharing I'll probably build some for myself when I'm ready God bless
Just throw a level and square up on your work area. Don't really use them, but it will make the complainers think you did :) Boxes look good and easy to build, I can see why some might complain :)
I want to say thanks for the information. I just started with New Zealand's. I used your detention's, but I used a nail gun, and wood glue. I also cut a 45 from the front to the top. it looks great. I would not have been able to pull this off without your web page. thanks again,
I just started raising rabbits and have been looking for a way to build some sanitary boxes, and I like the idea of putting hardwire cloth on the bottom, Thanks for the information John, I really like the idea you have there my friend.
Some years ago I had rabbits and did the same you're doing. Hutch was in the back yard and movable as needed for fertilizer. Here's the Punch. Wives poodles were users of the back yard, baby rabbit feet would poke through the hardware cloth poodles would jump up and get a bite. I had a litter of footless babies before I knew it. Keep the dogs out of the hutch area.
Screw those guys that said "it's not level, it's PLUM" Level is horizontal Plum is up and down You still win and you're quite intelligent. I like your videos
another awesome informational video our family watches all of your videos and take the tips you give and work them for what our needs are and make them our own. As always thank you for taking the time out of your day to offer us the opportunity to view your videos. And God bless you and your family........
+Theresa Jukiewicz I was building a new home for myself,a two story with beams spanning twenty feet to support the second floor. I consulted the most highly thought of structural engineer in the city. He told me that I needed twelve two by twelves laminated for each beam. I told him I wasn't building a bridge, he told me to get out of his office! That was forty years ago the home is still standing with four laminated 2X12s used for beams, hasn't sagged, hasn't moved.
Good job looks good to me. Like they say opinions are like A**h**** and everyone has one. Don't listen to them John. If it works for you that's all that matters. looks good to me and looks like it will work.
A friend of mine is from New Zealand and they say you qualify for a New Zealand rabbit geogolist dude just fill the app out and they will send you a certificate you can show all them nay sayers & haters.
love watching someone who is like myself. make it your way as you feel it is what works for you. someone else can do it they're way. they don't need to make a negative comment. I don't think.
I really like the hardware cloth idea. We never put a bottom on our boxes. Why do you not want the rabbits on top of the boxes? We always built them short enough the rabbits could climb on top to get off the wire.
Good stuff. John. I've built cages the same and in our Idaho winter I just drop a ply board inside of box which I can pull and clean or toss when dirty. Happy New Zealanders to you too!
your only doing it wrong if it don't work the way you want it to work, I am going to steel this plan for my nesting boxes. very good idea you have there.
I see that you get your hardware (screws, nails, etc) containers from the same place I do. Ha! Coffee cans rock! Anyone who says nesting boxes have to be square are PLUMB loco. ha - I enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing! One question - do you leave the boxes in the cages all the time, or only when the rabbits kindle?
Enjoyed! Just catching up. Do those boxes ever need any "vent" holes maybe in he sides during warmer times? BTW, I like your workbench. You must of had a professional come in and build that for you.
i lost a 5 babies out of a litter of 8 with a solid bottom nesting box, so i took the solid bottoms out for this next litter and out of 11 babies between 2 doe's all still alive
level its plumb ...........then u have that square thing folks are always worried about too, I live on a side of a mountain too, if it gets built and animals go in it and it ain't falling on them, its good to go. I do have a question for you though. I bought some cage material very much like yours, Its cage panels they use for air conditioners, like the panels on back of fridges. The spacing is 1/2.x3. Did you put anything on the bottom of your cage for babies? Is it needed if that close ???????????
Enjoyed your. Video.... I'll copy your design... have a hugh White New Zealand doe that has 13 or more babies... no way she can turn around in the normal size box.
600# rabbit!? That's Godzilla Rabbitius! JNull. Do you breed in the winter? Just curious if you thought a solid bottom might be preferred those times of the year to eliminate drafts. Thoughts?
hii, very informative video. i am in uk, u know, cold wet shady place. is wire at the bottom of nest is good ? i meant will the new born baby suffocate cold if they are born in the middle of freezing cold winter ?
I got plenty of people that told me "you don't need 4 nesting boxes for those chickens" "you don't need a coop that big for 6 chickens, idiot" "you're stupid for putting tile in the hen house" lol. Who cares what other people think. What works for you works for you and that's great. Not to mention.... What you're saying makes perfect sense to me.
that is a great box no doubt. the only thing I do differently is I have stopped putting a wire bottom on at all. the cage floor acts as the bottom and when its time pull the box just lift and scoop the fur and straw out of the cage. the box will be still clean and ready to go.
Thumbs up John. And kudos for making me laugh. That doesn't just happen. Even my husband has expressed that I don't just laugh at every little thing.
your ideasare great...wood holds germs no matter how you clean them and all the stuff you clean wood with is NOT good for rabbit health and extra space is good for mother bunny so there tell that to your trolls doing great thank you for sharing
God bless
I really like those boxes John
I like your attitude, straight to the point, purely saying to people take it or leave it lol
You doing a great job buddy, you good fun to watch
Your intelligent response was golden. I will most certainly repeating it when my husband says that I'm giving our Cinnamon doe too much space. (Cinnamons are about the same size as New Zealands)

Thank you, very informative. Using your blueprint to make nesting boxes for my rabbits, today!

Hey Bro, I like your videos. You are a happy guy and fun to watch. Thanks for the fun videos.
Ok it is either over kill or just wounded. No such thing as under kill. Box turned out nice. Lets see the rabbits and kits you have.
I want to say thanks for the information. I just started with New Zealand's. I used your detention's, but I used a nail gun, and wood glue. I also cut a 45 from the front to the top. it looks great. I would not have been able to pull this off without your web page. thanks again,
Looks good to me! I'm not a rabbitologist either but I play one on TV. LOL

It may be everyday and mundane, but never boring. Very useful in fact.
Do you clean the wooden nest box the same way you clean the metal hutch?
your only doing it wrong if it don't work the way you want it to work, I am going to steel this plan for my nesting boxes. very good idea you have there.
