I've loved this idea for a cage setup for a long time. I've recently discovered they work great for quail too! Just put a smaller gauge wire mesh on the bottom so they can walk better and I have a nice setup for them now too.
What a great idea. I went to the store today to try my hand at building your rabbit hutch. Took me only 90 minutes to finish it, including redoing a wall and top twice. Used hog clips on the ceiling for the hinge. Worked great. Only change I would make is to make the width 36" using one 20" and one 16" instead of 40". Just because I can't quite reach the far wall at 40" but I can at 36"

I just purchased 4 long pieces of the stuff at goodwill, It was about $12.00 total. at the time I didn't have a plan, but I felt that it was a good price . Thanks to you I now have A plan. Thanks
One suggestion! Get Lowes to cut them before you take them home ;) Unless you just like cutting them yourself lol Get them to cut 3 of the 12ft'ers in half (6ft) That will give you 2 for the top, 2 for the bottom and 1 for front and 1 for back, Then have them cut another one into 3 40in sections (each side needs 1 40in section) You'll have 1 extra 40in piece (for a future cage?) and 1 24in scrap piece (use it in your barn/home/or whatever). If you are low on money, buy 1 at a time, just have them cut at the store as you buy them. You'll need to buy 4 total for 1 cage (but remember, you'll have an extra 40in piece each time you build a cage so on your 3rd cage, you'll only need to buy the 3 cut in half cause you'll already have the side pieces) I couldnt find any political signs to use as dividers so I just used hardware cloth to divide the cage. (It was the cheapest option I could think of at the time) I've made 2 of these and now have enough for a 3rd (just havent made it yet) These are definitely wonderful cages!

Love your video and bought the shelving. I'm never in a hurry so it took me a few months to put it all together, a little at a time. My husband had no clue what I was doing and refused to help. Till I was almost done. LOL Once I had the bottom and all four sides done then started putting in the dividers I got help from him. They came out fantastic and my bunnies have a lot more room. I bought enough extra that my husband went ahead and put together another 6ft one all by himself before I woke up for breakfast the next morning. I watched your video several times in my several months of building my cages. He on the other hand never watched anything. As a result his are not as perfect as I was trying to do. Look at it a different way. About 50 bucks a cage per rabbit. That's very economical for a good easy to clean rabbit cages. Looks good and makes your raising rabbits much easier. Thanks for the video.
Thank you. Great idea. I'm going to expand on your idea and use those shelves around the garden for rabbit fenceing. Lots of ideas for that stuff. Thanks again. Enjoy your day 😎
Brilliant! I've been wanting to raise some meat rabbits for family meals but didn't care for the plans of most cages. I can do this myself. You have worked out the details so I don't have to. Thank you for sharing this method.
It was a very useful video for us that want to make Rabbit cage for less cause some people that don't have much money we can get by what we got around the yard or find scrap material
I love this idea. I moved from our 4 acre homestead a few years ago to a 1/3 acre suburban lot. (very sad, I know) After a couple of years of doing very little, we finally decided to set up a new, suburban homestead (and our first UA-cam channel). That's a great looking cage, sir! Looks pretty sturdy.
My daughter has rabbits, and we're about to build additional cages for expansion of "the herd".
I'm no cage-oligist either, but I have worked with a lot of that shelving. My only concern (there's always that one guy!), is the plastic coating on it will degrade pretty quickly, I think, outside from the weather. 🤔
I see these shelving units at our local reuse center (the dump) all the time! I will definitely be grabbing them the next time I go there!
That's absolutely the best idea I've seen in awhile! Nice job J, enjoy the videos.
Great rabbit cages. They should last 10years minimum.
Best cages ever. Love it John. Thanks for sharing.
Dudeness goes a long, long way. Good info - Thanks
That works well for a little while and you may have it figured out, but I would still frame it up out of treated wood or PVC to make it more sturdy and up off the ground. The shelves are a really good idea I am definitely going to do that very soon.
Brilliant. I could use this idea and modify it to keep squirrels out of raised beds in the garden.
