in my town there is actually a skatepark where building companies test different materials and how long it will last. It’s a great idea and eliminated a lot of skate stoppers.

truth about some skate stoppers is they're using "stopping skating" as a front to place dividers on long benches and other sitting implements to deter homeless people from sleeping on them. of course they'll enforce the "stopping skating" thing because if they don't then it becomes more apparent to the general populace that they never cared about it stopping skating.
I've seen this comment before, it's actually very interesting because it suggests they dont actually care about the skaters skating there to begin with, but that we have to suffer it too as a side effect of a conflict that is much deeper than people riding pieces of wood and also has fuck all to do with us. Like being 7 years old and having to side with your mom or your dad in an argument that is about bills not getting paid and whose fault that is, and whichever parent you dont side with will punish you differently in whatever ways they see fit.
There was some fictional concept i saw where you had to pay for the spikes on a bench to retract so you get your 15 min of sit time

Homeless should be stopped from sleeping in public. It's a nuisance. They should be in shelters.
The ground railing stuff is for blind people (in germany that is). Sure it sucks for me who just wants to et from point a to point b with my board but they are needed on busy roads etc.

There was an almost 20 year ban on so much a being on a skateboard on public property in city limits, in my town. They just lifted it this year. It was an actual crime. Got stopped multiple times by the cops typically at least 2 cars would show up. Sometimes they would take your shit and fine you, sometimes they didn't. Even got busted twice on a Longboard...dafuq am I gonna tear up on a Longboard.

Skate stoppers aren’t put in place to avoid structural damage. They are placed to avoid lawsuit to the owner of the property or city if the property is government owned. If they put up skate stoppers and signs saying “Do not skate”. Then if someone who decides to skate at the location decides to anyways then gets injured and wants to sue (yes it can happen). Then their suit will be lost by the owner putting up preventive measures that were ignored...

Yeah, the signs accomplish that all on their own. The state stoppers are literally just a way of saying "hey and in case our sign wasnt enough to stop you, here's something you can get severely fucking hurt on because fucking fuck you and your hobby, I dont like it, its noisy, annoying, and gets in my way, that way I can laugh at you on your way to the hospital saying, "should have listened to the sign moron, now you're hurt AND you cant sue me despite the fact my decision to put the skate stoppers there is why you're hurt and not the act of skateboarding itself."

Wet spot" sign or an employee standing next to the spot verbally warning people "hey, its wet, be careful." But the simplest reason is that, if the company Walmart could prove the person intentionally injured themselves or put themselves in a position where injury was a likely possibility in order to sue or are faking their injuries, the case will be dismissed with no winners or losers, but Walmart could counter-sue. Doesn’t mean they’d win, but they could. That said, to stand on a skateboard is to willingly subject yourself to the dangerous position that being on a skateboard is. It’s all too easy to prove the skater willingly put themselves at moderate to high risk of injury, since being willing to put yourself at risk of moderate to high injury is an innate part of riding a skateboard. It’s common knowledge that literally goes without saying. And that would mean a skater could never, ever, EVER successfully sue a place if they got hurt skating there, regardless of whether or not there was a sign. Every case of it would be dismissed, and every skater who tried it would be counter-sued for the lawyer fees of the person, people, or company they tried to sue, at the very least, and quite successfully, since civil cases don’t require proof beyond reasonable doubt, but only require you to show that a certain case is more likely than the other, even if by such a slim margin. All of this is just a result of the societal stigma and prejudice against skateboarders and skateboarding.
So put up a sign: "Skate or die all you want but if you die, it's your fault."

If anyone cares to hear the 'cranky old man' perspective, I'll offer it:
As a kid I used to skate (we're talking 30 years ago) and even back then, once great skate spots would get 'ruined' overnight by some crotchety old fart putting bumps/barriers up. I remember the frustration and not understanding why, but looking back I also remember believing I was being discriminated against because of the way I dressed, because I was young, or just because some people 'hate skateboarders'.
Today I see it from a different perspective...I own some real estate and I also have crappy health insurance.
Why do those two things matter?
First, anything that happens on my property, I'm potentially liable for. It's not fair, but that's the way it is. If a burglar breaks into my house and trips on a roller skate I left on the floor, breaking his leg, he can sue me. It doesn't matter that he was trespassing, it doesn't matter that he was burglarizing my house... I had created an environment a reasonable person could say was hazardous. So, no, I don't want you skating on my property because even though 99% of you would never sue over a self-induced broken spine from trying to kick-flip down my stairs, there's always one who will, and if I lose I'm f***ed. Since I can't tell by looking who is who, I'm pretty averse to letting ANYONE skate (or do anything risky) on my property.
Second: Health insurance. I remember being 18 years old and invincible. Almost nothing could hurt me, and if I did get hurt, 'walking it off' was usually all the medicine I needed. In any case, it didn't really matter because my only responsibility was showing up to class. Today, I have a family, a job, and bills to pay. Even pros lose control of their boards sometimes, and if I happen to be walking by it just takes a second for a 25mph board to hit me in the ankle and put me out of commission for a week or even a month. Who's going to pay my medical bills and for my lost time at work? You, kid with a skateboard? No offense, but I doubt it - I certainly couldn't have when I was jamming on my Per Welinder in 1987.
Now, before you decide I'm a complete buzzkill, please know that whenever there is a proposal to increase taxes to build a skatepark on the ballot, I'll surely vote for it. I don't mind contributing a portion of my money to giving people a safe, fun place to skate - I'm just not willing to put my entire life's work at risk. I hope some can understand that.

@cappucino 108 - even if what you say is true (it's not, but let's say it is), there's a first time for everything. And even if I eventually win such a lawsuit, do I want to pay the legal bills to defend myself against your health insurance company? No, I don't, thank you. Again, I know the chances of lawsuits are remote - very remote, but that doesn't mean I want to add more risk to my life for no good reason.
Regardless, lawsuits aren't really my biggest concern - damage and injuries are. Skate trucks are made from metal. They damage curbs and corners of concrete. I can appreciate that it doesn't seem like a big deal to chip a bit of concrete, but someone paid good money for those stairs and they don't want to have to pay to repair them after you've damaged them. I don't want to have to power wash the paint off either - I have enough other crap to do (like write too-long comments on UA-cam!). Also, as I said before, even the best skaters lose control of their boards. I don't want your board flying into the side of my car or smashing into my shin.
All that being said, if some neighborhood kids came to me and said, "Hey mister, you have a great driveway for skating. If our parents sign a form saying we won't sue you, and if we promise to pay for or repair any damage we cause, do you mind if we use it?" I would probably allow it. But of course, no one ever asks... they just trespass and call people neurotic jews if they want to keep the stuff they've worked hard to build in nice condition, amirite?

On point! I used to skate about 10 years ago, haven't ever since I broke my knee in 3 places, but now that I have a son I want him to be able to have fun and do what he pleases. I want him to take the risks he sees fit. Knowing that you feel the way you do, I'm sure many other property owners feel the same. From now on I will always offer to sign a waiver to any property owner of obstacles my son would want to skate on. It never even crossed my mind until you mentioned it. We can all learn something from other perspectives apart from our own echo chamber of ideas.

Totally understand how most people who want to sit on their butts watching TV all day or play golf and tennis at the country club and then complain about how it's the kids who are too lazy and destroying public property by skating. I'm curious if that area where the cops ran you off was actually posted for no skateboarding. If not your response to "these are here to keep you from skating" is "well, they're not very effective". I mean, there are city codes that get posted as to the restrictions for the area of your home free. I'm not telling you to get into it with a group of cops. We all know how that goes sideways, fast. Just know the laws and don't let cops invent or inforce their own interpretation. The presence of skate stoppers is supposed to stop grinding but if they don't then awesome.

that hum is a ground loop sounds like shes plugged into two different non well grounded outlets.
st kilda skatepark has skate stoppers on ALL of the street obstacles. I think the main reason why globe is so popular in Australia is the super steep concave which can get over most skate stoppers. super wide contact patches (50mm+) are also necessary if you want to skate stairs, because there are even skate stoppers on the ground here. most people just uncap the things, but st kilda is left alone because of the cams.

The hum from her amp is because of the way the pedals are linked in the signal chain. Try different positions for certain noisy pedals and you might get it to go away.
The hum is 60hz hum from the AC power. Those pedals are all top shelf, it's the single coil pickups that are causing it.
I was traveling in New York a few weeks ago and my group and I all went to the nearest Zumiez (sorry corporate skate shops ik) bought the cheapest boards we could find and we still skated the crap out of the covered ledge by the waterfront. One of my favorite moments from my trip. And I almost forgot about it until I watched this video a couple months late. Thanks John!

@@WrenDevast I do know. I dont grind and I still skate. And I've seen the cruise skate video, one of the best ones I've seen and they mostly just literally cruise. Who did that video, Santa Cruz? I cant remember. However, you can still just be skating the stairs as a gap and get kicked out of a place because "you skater punks tear up the rails". I've had it happen to me, despite never so much as even considering grinding the rails.
My local skatepark now has tones of skate stoppers 😢😤

Where I live there is one skate park and guess wut every where u could skate they have security and no skating signs but the skate park sucks it one has a berm that’s all it is and it’s impossible to drop in because there is nowhere to stand

I don’t get it, I skated all my life too, I got mad when they put this stuff up, but now my brain works better and I see it’s because the windows and such keep getting damaged and the companies keep getting sued for injuries. So basically if you don’t get that yet, then your brain is still not fully developed.
There has been no cases (at least in california, the meca of skateboarding) of a skater suing over injuries. Not one. 50 plus years and not one case. So save your propaganda bullshit.
I can make up statistics too. Skate stoppers are all over my college campus. Even large slopes have stoppers or dividers to make you trip and fall.
