So I know I am a little late but I gotta tell you guys this. A local high school in my community used metal on the edge of the ledges to stop damage to the ledge but also making it better and easier to skate. More places should do this

ShaneHockey King it’s 2019. Cops have never stopped me while bmxing or skating and I’m still a minor. They don’t give a fuck they have real problems to deal with like giving people in CARS tickets and stopping drugs and guns. They are out to catch felons not give people trouble over a helmet maybe if they really don’t have something to do they might drive by slow and tell you to put a helmet on if your 13 but other then that they don’t give a fuck. And I’m from Canada so what does that say. We all are pushovers right so you’d think our cops would stop people over helmets but they don’t. Like I said maybe if you were 13 in the 90s and the fat cop had nothing else to do but they have shit to get done.
@@joshparker1426 It's not cops that give a shit here in Canada bro it's private security guards, and they frequent a decent amount of nice places but ultimately there are so many spots where there are none that it really doesn't matter, I've never had to speak with a real cop about my board unless I was doing something else that they were concerned about with it on me

I live in Puerto Rico, and the skate community is quite liked here. A lot of people see us as the fun youth that is better of skating that doing drugs or some others nonsense. I think I’ve only seen a skate stoper twice in the years I’ve been skating out here. It’s really rare.
In rare cases cops will kick us out but for 8/10 times cops are completely cool with us so long we’re just skating and being mindful of others. For the most part we get no harassment from cops! Skating over here is great!

To be fair, as a woodworker, I can appreciate certain objects being off-limit. People don’t want work they paid a lot of money for to be damaged and neither do the people that made it. Marble, skilled work, masonry in general, I get it. However, metal railings? Loading docks? Public concrete stairs? I can’t see why they’re so gung-ho on stopping those from being skated
maybe its not about damage. Maybe its to avoid being sued when folk hurt themselves. Probably skater mums and dads who moaned when their little johnny fell off his skateboard.

Someome should invent a one size fits all rail cover that is grindable. Would fit over the sk8 stoppers. Good idea if u ask me. Could grind any rail with a lil force

For the ones with angled plates with bolts exposed a regular drill and a 5/8 bit, impact drills work the best

Well usually it's not the concrete that chips away, generally paint, when it comes to skateboards anyway. Bikes on the other hand are an extra 25lb with the rider on top of that, when they grind concrete it can chip but it doesn't always happen.
Quick question though, what's more expensive in your opinion? Buying the skate stoppers and/or paying for labour to have them installed, or buying a bag of quick set cement and patching any chips that appear? Keeping in mind a 22lb bag of cement mix will set you back maybe $10.
I was told that skateboards will crack the concrete just from the standard ollie while I was a teenager. Made me wonder when cities would spend thousands building a skatepark out of concrete, you know the concrete that supposedly breaks under the massive weight of a skateboard.

Im not a skater, or a person who owns property, but i feel like the real reason why some people would put skate stoppers in is not to prevent damage but to discourage "loitering" of skaters even if it's a public space

@@noyp8580 nowadays that's what people think, skateboarding came from surfing, when people couldn't surf the waves they surfed the streets. skateboarding has it's roots in the streets and overcoming everyday obstacles and turning them into a legendary skate spot. How many video parts lately have you seen with park clips, not many because skateboarding is about overcoming your environment, not just doing cool tricks in a designated area that people have probably already done before in the same exact place a million times. I get the distaste for private property damage, heck even I don't like when people skate this one ledge right under my window but when you end up getting kicked out of places where not only is it a public space but also a place where no amount of skateboarding could possibly fuck it up any more than it already is, well then that right there is a joke.
Skate stoppers are a building code violation pretty much anywhere u go! So your basically teaching us the skate constitution rn! 🙏😂🥰
On some hand rails with skate stoppers you can get away with variations of board slides front side,backside,lipslides but it will do some damage to your deck back in the day when they first started putting them on hand rails we would use duck tape over the stoppers with plenty of wax

A skateboard doesn't cause much damage, but those black stains caused by constant repeated skating, waxing, skating et al CAN get unsightly, it chews stuff up over time. And there is the legal liability of the attractive nuisance.
Would it be as much fun to skate without that transgression factor? I don't know, I ride a longboard, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This is their property and they can do what they want to it. If they dont want you to skate there they have the right to stop you. You guys always act like your entitled to skate at a spot and they are the bad guy for stopping you.
