738ft-lb's of Torque in a 2004 car is insane even 17 years later. But I'd say it would be a lot of fun on a track if speed wasn't your goal. It's a grand tourer at heart though

and it's a little bit faster than an impreza, slower than an evo and so much less reliable than a pulsar vzr.
Overall, a great mobile living room.

@@TheGAVstudio To be fair that’s what it’s supposed to be, a living room, it’s a gran tourer. Track times have ruined modern cars for the road, everyone complains that they’re too stiff.

Europeans are. You've just done it in different ways... Us in the US, we've decided to gain power by showing off our military programs, and our economy (which used to be good...). Over the pond, as they say, you Europeans have other things... You show off engineering feats. Great bridges, highspeed trains, the chunnel, for god's sake, they are all masterpieces.
Don't diss on yourself, Europe is a great continent.
The sound though of most of them tends to be amazing and it can be fun to drive them on a circuit.

yeah you can usually tell roughly when it was by the registration plate. 04 is somewhere between march-september 2004
1000Nm is impressive by 2022 standards let alone 2004(?)
But of course it is a grand tourer or a two door version of the s class, 2+ tonnes car made for cruising not corners
I love the styling. It's such a stylish looking car and it's unbelievably fast. I was shocked about the time. I was expecting a faster time than that, but, through the corners, it proved to be quite a handful.

@faizaanalap4 in germany.. there is this one thing that is called Autobahn.. i know the rest of the world don't have such a thing.. yeah but in germany .. there is it.. so 12 cylinders could be needed.. and in straight line.. and yes, the autobahn is mostly straight.. you can use the 12 cylinders power.. and if you have the money, tell me one aspect why you shouldn't buy this car..

I never made any comment against the UK itself. I don't exactly care what nation is better than which- In a sense, we're just people, in different parts of the world, calling our homes different things.
The UK is a fine area of the world. I've never been there, but I've wanted to visit.
@Camper1234599 Oh yeah, your car (my dream car!) is extremely rare! You're about 10x more likely to see a C216 CL63 AMG than you are another C215 CL65... and I've only ever seen one CL63 on the road! The rarest AMG sold in the US is the R63... just 30! Though I suspect it has less to do with exclusivity and more to do with the fact that buyers preferred the ML63... but I digress. You sir, have a cool car, and I love this video!
Technically, they are. They have a big engine, and muscle cars don't need big boxy looks. Corvettes are sexy, and just because they have better steering, doesn't make them not a muscle car. No one ever said the handling of a muscle car HAS to be bad. The Corvette is technically a muscle car.
I just love the insanity of that engine.
ive got a cl55 AMG (500bhp) and let me assure u that nobody buys these cars to go fast around a track. most of the people commenting will never have the money to appreciate a car like this. i cud modify a nova to do 1.29 round the test track..... doesnt make it a good car!

@Commentor1 Lexus are just Toyotas in a frock, be real. CLs and especially CL55s are leagues ahead of any Lexus alternative. Youre confusing running costs with reliability...
For the US market, just 194 were produced for the 2005 and 2006 model years combined.

Yes, I understand that. Although everyone has their differences, that doesn't mean our enemies are worthless. It's all a matter of the person... Sure, many people may think of their enemies as trash, but others can see that they are fine people also.
I didn't say any when it was manufactured. I just said originally. Anyways, that's just saying that you value the USA over every other country that is in either of the Americas.

The 55AMG version is faster than the 65 ...

I don't call them that. It's mostly to do with the high performance cars of the 1960s-1970s era or heavily based on them like the New Challenger. The New Challenger lives up to its older brother by being just like the old one, a giant bottle rocket engine strapped to a chassis that turns like a boat. Muscle Cars are quite fun to take around bends. Corvette could smoke the Challenger, but you don't get that same sense of accomplishment and turning with the throttle.

Well I must say that as fun as debating is, I accept losing with dignity, although I will say I am more of a charger fan than a corvette fan. You win.
As far as Top Gear calling it America... Well, that's just being bias, and is a whole argument in itself.
You'd make a good lawyer.
You've got to remember the original Corvette- I believe, that it was manufactured as a muscle car. Some of the lower end versions don't have the nice handling of the ZR-1, either, and may seem more like a muscle car, rather than a sports car.
And just for politically correctness, you shouldn't call them "American" cars. They should be cars from the USA. The USA is not America, it is a very small fraction of it.

Could of done better with wider rear tires and softer suspension in the front, ABC is aggressively fighting body roll hence the wild amount of understeer

1955 was the classic era and Top Gear likes to call it America. You can't win this one.
It looks to me like it needs wider wheels and better tires. It's a Mercedes, so it's going to be heavy. There's nothing you can do about that, but I think it needs a 315 series tire in the back at least.

SOOO!! MUCH!! TORQUE!!! my cousin owns a used car dealership and bought an 07 s65 back in the day.. I saw what that giant beast does.. i cant even imagine what the sl's and cl's do.. theyre lighter and have more horsepower and torque

Also the Corvette is a sleek sports car and the ZR-1 threatens for the top spot with its amazing handling and even more amazing power. They are amazing but they are not muscle cars in many definitions. The Muscle car is more than an American car with a big engine.

Meet it on an Autobahn, you will follow. It's for going comfortable and straight, not for curves. If there are some, you go comfortable with it.

This is not the road test. It's the power lap!
The Mercedes is fast but the car has so much torque that the under and oversteer waste precious seconds on the track.

I have had a couple of the S Class and they handle like poo. I'm looking to get a C Class tho. And no I don't buy it for the handling! They are so comfortable and user friendly when needing servicing/light repairs, luxurious and great speed :)
Last I checked the autobahn does not have sharp turns.
This guy is a fool. He has no idea of the distinction between a sports car (SL) and a touring car (CL). Anyone that would treat a magnificent CL to this criminal abuse deserves to have it confiscated. Clarkson is a jerk

The Subaru is rally inspired which makes the Mercedes even more impressive because it's a grand tourer by design

The R8 coated in anti reflective triple black...my night rider. I obey the freeway speed limit like an earthquake is predictable. Run slow in the right then drop it like it hot and rocket past those turd mobiles as if they were standing. I have flaming exhuasts that shoot out a butane flame.
