The doom intro for Pyro gave me chills, as if I was a spy facing off against 3 Combo Pyros with nothing but a cloak revolver, a kunai and stock watch. Amazing feeling
Little correction: Fire particles do actually accelerate with your movement, that's pretty much why the exploits of getting stuck as pyro then just using the detonator to have an effectively infinite range flamethrower.
12:44 the det actually has a larger explosion radius than the scorch, and at times is more dangerous than scorch due to its air burst giving the pyro more control on the explosion and thus easier to get caught in the blast

Ayo, you know it's a good night when Jon uploads at 5am in the morning, lol. I'll be honest, my main strategy has been to just wait till they're distracted, disguise as a Medic, target them. Some Pyros are a menace in a casual lobbies. And when a Pyro wants to WM1, they're rarely suspicious of the Medic that's magically behind them. I know it's not gonna work all the time, it's just my go-to. Disguising as Medic tends to be really good in general though. Even if players are suspicious of your Medic disguise, in the heat of the moment they're just not going to notice unless you bump into them. Heck I've had a Scout use his Mad Milk on me, on my Medic disguise, because I was on fire and basically gave me the backstab. I'm proud of that moment.
Notes for if you do run into a Mannmelter Pyro: They do not need to set you on fire to use their crits. And if your team has a few pyros, chances are this pyro is loaded with at least 5 reserve crits if they're competent. More experienced Thermal Thruster pyros tend to switch weapons before landing, yes, you can do that, and it allows the pyro to prepare to deal damage before landing, which is very critical in a chase.
Man, as a Pyro main, the bit that kicked off the "Predicting Them" segment seriously got me. I feel like that's the entire Pyro vs. Spy matchup in a nutshell, Pyro definitely doesn't always require you to outsmart your enemies like Spy does. Still totally gonna at least *try* though, can't hurt to add prediction and trickery to my game plan especially since Pyro also thrives on ambush kills. At the end of the day, maybe we're not so different after all... 🔥
Some notes from a a pyro main here, 1, gas passer is actually pretty good when your team realizes what it does 2, a good back scratcher pyro can easily chip your health with the flame thrower and finish you off with one melee 3. Be wary of tmates using jarate, mad milk or gas passer, as they can be reflected 4. Air blast IS useful, it allows us to force you in a direction, sure we cant see you, but now we're 98% certain your now against that wall Also popcorning an unprepared spy is pretty effectice at messing them up
@@an-animal-lover gaspasser will coat an area in gas for a few seconds, enimies covered in gas will ignite if they take ANY damage. between the large slash zone and pyro having the arm of an NFL player he can assist against crowds or spies for a long distance. It's so amazing how even after so many years such a great content is made for this game. Keep going, after your vids and 20hours of playing spy I'm finally able to hit top once in a while and enjoy my spy gameplay.
5:20 powerjack and detnator:allow us to introduce ourselves like i actually tried to run until he pulled out the powerjack and smacked me with it the second a pyro does that there is no escaping he jus switch gets closer the back to flame thrower to make sure you can get rid of the fire
Pyro main here, I love your video, and how you're not portraying Pyro like an absolute braindead moron like many others do nor like "GG EZ kills". My best advice for Spies trying to fight Pyros and live: if he's alone and you're a little far away, the stock revolver 3 shots a full health Pyro from a decent distance where the shotgun doesn't do a lot, but if he's decent and noticed you he will most probably start juking. The Ambassador is great if you can land one headshot, but otherwise it's really risky to get close to him. Besides that, a Pyro that is distracted or fighting someone else will be just as easy to backstab as any other class, just mind the potential chaos surrounding the fighters... I think the most important thing to note for all of us is that while we have different skill levels, the ability to adapt to one of us changing their playstyle is the most vital and game-changing skill for anyone to have (a Pyro who killed you before who shows the same patterns after you killed him will become much easier to kill than a player as any other class who is aware about you and may try to adapt their playstyle to catch you off-guard while you were having fun bullying the inexperienced Pyro). With that said, I wish everyone reading this a fun while playing TF2 and if we ever meet that I hope we can have some interesting fights.
POV: you’re a Pyro Main who is watching this not to learn how to kill them better, but simply gain a better appreciation for spies. I still do love chasing a spy like a rabid Pitbull though, but best of luck to all of the spies out there!
this will help a lot while dealing with those pesky little brats also i love it how in every spy psychology video that you make it obvious that SPY HAS A GUN
3:30 FYI the speed of flame particles is absolutely effected by pyros movement speed its the very basis of flame trapping and bombing it allows for so many fun shenanigans.
there was this one time on dustbowl where i was just cloaked and minding my own business in a crevasse in the wall next to my team waiting for an opportune moment to slip past, very on edge because of the crossfire directly in my face. and then suddenly, a stray scorch shot flare hits a teammate DIRECTLY in front of me, and all i could do was watch the flare slowly fall to the ground and ignite me, leading to my exposure and demise. and that, made me absolutely despise the scorch shot. also, love the DOOM theming here
Great video, I play pyro, so another tip is if you see the pyro using the detonator, he might be doing it for the mobility of detonator jumps, if he jumps towards you, you will be caught in the danger zone
While bunny hopping + strafing forward is unlikely to be effective at the basic level, bunny hopping backwards is a good alternative when dealing with the backburner.
Subbed. I don't play spy, I don't plan on playing spy that much, and I don't even play any of the classes that spy has notable interactions with. I just think 70k subs for videos with THIS high of production value is criminal.
Note on the Phlog: If you see a Pyro taunt and uber to get crits, DO NOT RUN UP BEHIND THEM TO TRY AND GET A STAB! They can instantly turn to whatever direction they were looking at while in 3rd person, and odds are they saw you and are looking at you. So that epic stab you were planning to get on that cocky Phlog Pyro will more often then not end with your death.
You can actually use the fact they'll turn towards you against them. I believe I did it on a stream once but I tricked a phlog into turning at me thinking they got me when I just went to the other side with good timing and got them.
ive been recommending your videos to anyone who does bad in spy ingame or asks for tips, also when they ask in discord or whatever. theyre the most entertaining videos and the fact you talk about so much more than just stats or other basic info means even i can learn after so many years of playing by applying your game sense to mine. keep doing what youre doing, youre the best spy educational channel i know
As a Pyro main, one thing I can say is pay attention to the sound of the flamethrower being used. Dragon's Fury, Phlog, and Backburner to an extent, sound different from stock. Rainblower will look like stock to non-Pyrovision players, but it will make a jingling bells sound when equipped. Make use of this info. As for the Stock reskin Nostromo, the Pyro using that will tend to be airblast happy and appreciates a clean FoV.

As a pyro main who plays for highlander, I despise most brainless furry pyro mains who seek for anytime to spit on spies. (P.s. hate solves no problem and every class main/player can be toxic, don't judge a book by its cover, unless it's a pyro wearing the head case, then they are a furry) this channel is phenomenal for an intro to spies and TF2. Side note on the revolver. As I sub main spy, thx for reminding newer players spy has a gun but unless you have God tier aim and positioning, the revolver will get u killed if you don't use it against a lone pyro. ( which often isn't the case (that's assuming they're not a brainless bloodthirsty furry)) keep in mind that everything has a counter in TF2 and sub to johntohil2. Keep up the great content🎉
This channel is the best spy guide and tutorial for new players and existing players. For me it's easier to understand by showing images and graphics + straight to the point.
Fun fact: pyro’s flame particles’s range increases with higher velocity. so if a pyro is moving, their range increases slightly, so you COULD get hit from farther if you were both walking sideways for some reason
Advanced detonator tip from a pyro main: Treat it as an infinite range flamethrower, im serious. Do not make your cloaked escape predictable, usually spies feel safe once they leave the danger zone to just keep running in the most predictable fashion (towards doorways, health, teammates, etc) but a detonator shot can be, detonated, in mid air at any point, advanced pyros will use it to long-range spycheck AND close the gap if needed.
They didn't tell us how to deal with backburner pyros so I'll just do it. Walk sideways away from them, you stay fast enough to escape AND you don't give them crits
JONTO YOU FORGOT THE POWERJACK!!! The powerjack makes the aforementioned pyro faster than a spy but slower than a scout. Pairing this with any flamethrower that isn’t the dragons fury can cause some serious hell. I should know. I run the powerjack and stock flame thrower in casual. I light the spies on fire with the flamethrower, then chase them into my team with the power jack, occasionally pulling out the flamethrower to keep the afterburn on them
How pyros counter spies: -spam flames especially near engy nests corners low traffic areas or ammo packs -gas passer gasoline shows cloaked spies or drenches disguised spies -airblast off a cliff or into hazards -jetpack helps be airborne so spies cant backstab you nor easily shoot you down -homewrecker makes it harder for spies to do one if their jobs of destroying engineer nests -powerjack helps you catch up or outrun spies -backburner helps spies running away or ambush them and spycheck teammates backs -flare guns help you boost jump or crit / mini crit spies killing em faster How to counter pyro as spy: -don't -go around -let allies deal with them -avoid unless low health or distracted in which casw only go for pyros AFTER all other prime targets have been dealt with. -diamondback crits and kunai overheal otherwise avoid entirely.

As a Doom fan, I adore this video's particular style, and is probably my new favorite in the Spy Psychology series.
Also, caught that brief moment of The Healer Stalks, that was a nice touch.
3:42 This pyro already breached our defenses.
And worst of all, he could be any one of us.
11:10 = “DEATH ZOOONE”
The ANIMATION! The MUSIC!
The USEFUL TIPS! 🤩
(with actual numbers to back it up, like 96% speed for a backwalking spy VS 100% speed for a forwardwalking pyro)
You got yourself a not only a new sub, but also a like on every video of yours I've seen so far, and hopefully the proudness that someone's who'd ignored the spy class for years is going to try to play it for the first time in a LOOOONG while. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! Keep up the good work 😎
as a pyro main i used this video to help me track spies more easily
JONTOHIL, WHAT HAVE U DONE!?
You fool you doom us all
3:42
Remember if spy goes right at you that is bad, you will get trickstabbed if you don't do anything. That's when you should use airblast
Average pyro main being predictable:
Suprised you left out the power jack, not only is it the nost used one but it also conflicts/counters the running away method,as they now can catch up
Ayo, you know it's a good night when Jon uploads at 5am in the morning, lol.
I'm proud of that moment.

spies: ugh! why cant i kill anyone while running away from them?
jonto: *SPY HAS A GUN*
I’ll be honest, I’m just loving how every video can involve the iconic “SPY HAS A GUN!”
Wow, that first minute in a half was really cool. Who could've known that Spy had a gun?
Some notes from a a pyro main here,
1, gas passer is actually pretty good when your team realizes what it does
2, a good back scratcher pyro can easily chip your health with the flame thrower and finish you off with one melee
3. Be wary of tmates using jarate, mad milk or gas passer, as they can be reflected
4. Air blast IS useful, it allows us to force you in a direction, sure we cant see you, but now we're 98% certain your now against that wall
Also popcorning an unprepared spy is pretty effectice at messing them up
What exactly does the Gas Passer do?
@@an-animal-lover gaspasser will coat an area in gas for a few seconds, enimies covered in gas will ignite if they take ANY damage. between the large slash zone and pyro having the arm of an NFL player he can assist against crowds or spies for a long distance. The way it charges up is a little weird but if your running either crit-thrower you only really need one kill to recharge
@@orionstarbelt9822 oohh, ok, thanks
I still can't believe my little bro managed to make it inside this Spy Psychology video!
It's so amazing how even after so many years such a great content is made for this game. Keep going, after your vids and 20hours of playing spy I'm finally able to hit top once in a while and enjoy my spy gameplay.
Him using Doom references means 1 or more of 3 things:
1. He is a cool gamer
2. Proving he's not a weeb
3. Pyros are demonic
5:20 powerjack and detnator:allow us to introduce ourselves
like i actually tried to run until he pulled out the powerjack and smacked me with it the second a pyro does that there is no escaping he jus switch gets closer the back to flame thrower to make sure you can get rid of the fire
Jesus Christ, the Doom edit was so good!
I wonder, if we'll get to hear some Hellsinger songs i the future?
With that said, I wish everyone reading this a fun while playing TF2 and if we ever meet that I hope we can have some interesting fights.
dont forget about the powerjack, which will let pyro's close the distance between you to put you back in the danger zone
I love how that video feels like a tape about avoiding a litteral monster
POV: you’re a Pyro Main who is watching this not to learn how to kill them better, but simply gain a better appreciation for spies. I still do love chasing a spy like a rabid Pitbull though, but best of luck to all of the spies out there!
why does the pyro icon at 0:01 kinda look like a toilet
You can also try to sap the Pyro.
It probably won't work, but they may confuse you for a friendly and leave you alone to massacre their team.
Imagine backstabbing right after doing that
this will help a lot while dealing with those pesky little brats also i love it how in every spy psychology video that you make it obvious that SPY HAS A GUN
3:30 FYI the speed of flame particles is absolutely effected by pyros movement speed its the very basis of flame trapping and bombing it allows for so many fun shenanigans.
The constant use of red when talking about pyro and the short switch to blue when talking about the classes is very creative
there was this one time on dustbowl where i was just cloaked and minding my own business in a crevasse in the wall next to my team waiting for an opportune moment to slip past, very on edge because of the crossfire directly in my face. and then suddenly, a stray scorch shot flare hits a teammate DIRECTLY in front of me, and all i could do was watch the flare slowly fall to the ground and ignite me, leading to my exposure and demise. and that, made me absolutely despise the scorch shot.
also, love the DOOM theming here
Great video, I play pyro, so another tip is if you see the pyro using the detonator, he might be doing it for the mobility of detonator jumps, if he jumps towards you, you will be caught in the danger zone
that intro did not need to go so hard and yet here we are. amazing vid as always
I have to give it to you, jon, that entry animation was VERY cool.
While bunny hopping + strafing forward is unlikely to be effective at the basic level, bunny hopping backwards is a good alternative when dealing with the backburner.
Yes
Indeed
Great video. The visual/audio gags land well, and the info is concise and easy to understand.
1:00 doomspy?
It’s the doomspyer
I pressed like not after the video, but after the intro to that video. I frickin love how creative this guy is.
This guy is basically uncle dane but with spy.
Grand job as always. I’ll certainly be implementing these tactics into my Future Spy Play.
Always happy to be reminded that SPY HAS A GUN.
I also like to hold "Jump" when jumping into deep water while cloaked, really helps with staying hidden due to surfing on the water!
I love the visual of the "danger zone" being a red circle it's very easy to understand and put into practice.
Subbed. I don't play spy, I don't plan on playing spy that much, and I don't even play any of the classes that spy has notable interactions with. I just think 70k subs for videos with THIS high of production value is criminal.
Note on the Phlog:
If you see a Pyro taunt and uber to get crits, DO NOT RUN UP BEHIND THEM TO TRY AND GET A STAB!
Pyro is like your mom when she's angry at you for being rude.
Bro makes spy sound so epic to play it genuinely convinced me to play spy and actually pop of duo to the Spy Psychology series , good job mate.
The amount of effort put into these videos honestly amazes me. For someone that has just picked up the game like me and fell in love with playing spy, this is just beyond perfect as you also explain some basic stuff about the game that is really important.
I knew this was gonna be awesome, but GAHD DAYUM
That DooM intro was so epik. It exceeded almost all my expectations, showing that you really know how to wow your audience.
Such an informative video in an awesome bad ass format just can't be compared to most,
I really love all of your videos, thanks for this one❤
As a pyro main who sub mains spy, this channel is one hundred percent the best channel for beginning spies and intermediate pyros. Great jokes about the pyro mains at the beginning.
You forgot about the powerjack giving the pyro 15% more speed making the pyro gest then the spy
6:18 as a spy main I genuinely jumped when the pyro turned his head
This channel is the best spy guide and tutorial for new players and existing players. For me it's easier to understand by showing images and graphics + straight to the point.
Fun fact: pyro’s flame particles’s range increases with higher velocity. so if a pyro is moving, their range increases slightly, so you COULD get hit from farther if you were both walking sideways for some reason
Advanced detonator tip from a pyro main:
Treat it as an infinite range flamethrower, im serious.
I love airblasting Spy's in a corner while shooting fire, making them miss shots and unable to get stabs.
You didn't have to go this hard with the video but you did anyway and I love it
I hope we get more videos including SPY HAS A GUN
They didn't tell us how to deal with backburner pyros so I'll just do it. Walk sideways away from them, you stay fast enough to escape AND you don't give them crits
JONTO YOU FORGOT THE POWERJACK!!! The powerjack makes the aforementioned pyro faster than a spy but slower than a scout. Pairing this with any flamethrower that isn’t the dragons fury can cause some serious hell. I should know. I run the powerjack and stock flame thrower in casual. I light the spies on fire with the flamethrower, then chase them into my team with the power jack, occasionally pulling out the flamethrower to keep the afterburn on them
How pyros counter spies:
-spam flames especially near engy nests corners low traffic areas or ammo packs
-gas passer gasoline shows cloaked spies or drenches disguised spies
-airblast off a cliff or into hazards
-jetpack helps be airborne so spies cant backstab you nor easily shoot you down
-homewrecker makes it harder for spies to do one if their jobs of destroying engineer nests
-powerjack helps you catch up or outrun spies
-backburner helps spies running away or ambush them and spycheck teammates backs
-flare guns help you boost jump or crit / mini crit spies killing em faster
How to counter pyro as spy:
-don't
-go around
-let allies deal with them
-avoid unless low health or distracted in which casw only go for pyros AFTER all other prime targets have been dealt with.
-diamondback crits and kunai overheal otherwise avoid entirely.
i dont even need help learning spy anymore, ur videos are just so well made and fun to watch that i never wanna miss a single one
"That intro was actually FIRE"
-Pyro
God, that intro is metal as hell!
I am losing my mind the second I get a backstab even after checking the coast for five minutes waiting for the perfect time to get that sniper seeing that the enemy’s pyros just died and going for the kill ONLY FOR 5 PYROS TO TURN THE CORNER
a pyro seeing you is the tf2 equivalent to "when the doom music kicks in"
Thank you for this series, spy is my least played class and I want to get better at him
