    I don't feel Rutger Hauer was ever given the respect, or opportunity, he so deserved in movies and for the work he completed. He was so much better than many of his American colleagues. He even mastered the English language. I sure enjoyed the full range of his acting. He was amazingly all-around gifted. I sure miss him.

    • @warrenbfeagins
      @warrenbfeagins 5 років тому +8

      To this day, people don't get that Deckard was the villan and that tickles the shit out of him, but he is so classy and let's it go. His understanding of who's the villan is what makes his "tears in rain" speech remarkable.

    • @Vingul
      @Vingul 4 роки тому +5

      @@warrenbfeagins he does address it in another interview conducted the same day, in that same chair. I don't agree that it's a definite binary between hero and villain in the film though.

    Yes, Rutger liked riding horse, in his younger years he lived in a small house a couple of kilometers from my town, his old neighbour told me he used to do that naked hahaha 🤣Later he lived in the village of Beetsterzwaag where he drove his golfcart in the forrest together with his dog, always friendly and waving to others. The man was such peculiar and extraordinary 🙂 We miss natural people as him!!

    He was very kind and respectful to this woman. Very humble. The actors today don't behave this way. He was unbelievably good looking, and in Blade Runner he turned the whole movie into this incredibly deep, emotional journey about the whole meaning off live in the last few minutes of his last scene. They say he just added that speech at the end. Without it, the movie would have been o.k., but not that special.

    Wygant's questions about sci-fi as a genre and Hollywood as an industry, vs. the European film industry, are really interesting. And Rutger's responses.... Wow. What a guy.... Always delivering such deep and poignant answers. The trade-offs we make in life. Meaning vs. money in the creation of art. Which is more important? Should art be used as a money-making means to an end, to gain social influence for social benefit, she asks? His answer is perfect. Always Meaning, with a capital M. So much philosophy and cultural discussion casually thrown into the mix. I really think he was the best actor in all of film history. His role as Roy Batty is untouchable. No one else could have done it. Only developed outlooks on life like this could translate into the perfection we see on screen.

But was somewhat afraid with his role in "Lexx", but that WAS bazarr! I don't think I will have time, now at 62, and fighting legal battles ( do you realize the defense attorney had someone hack my computer shoeing a screen shot with all my side folders? The mf. ) to see all of his movies. I do salute you on you candor about the solipsistic American attitudes and fears that Hollywood displays. You are a number one actor, in my book!
