I already miss him... 😢😔😔😔 Rest in peace, sir...
Syd Mead is one of my heroes.
Syd's work is BEAST.
... Can't never argue wit'dat ....*
Here's a guy I truely admire ... more than his machinery creations, he knows the artistic side of illustration like no other, the INTENSE INTENSE yet lyrical and poetic moods in his renderings are really really breathtaking ...
RIP Syd, I've admired his work since I was blown away by Tron.
I still can't believe he's gone. But his vision will live on forever. What a Legend.
Syd Mead is the boss
Syd Mead just passed away I never knew his concepts of famous movies until today!
Visionary. Wow. As a designer I've always been inspired by Syd Mead but to hear him talk and imagine the future that's beginning to happen is amazing. Love him.
This guy is brilliant.
Enriching experience to watch and listen to Syd. RIP Sir.
I found it now he's also very funny and cute person ..🥰 will miss you forever, sir 😔😔😔😢
Huge fan of Syd Mead!
Wonderful, thank you
The most down -to-earth futurist.

Coz... Syd Mead works astounded me.
Rest in piece Sid, thank you for everything.
There's an old phrase; 'The way to predict the future is to invent it'. Well I think Syd Mead must have been plugged into some "great cosmic mind" to predict so much so accurately, and I wish there were more of his like so that we could give them platforms to reach us and prepare us for what's really coming down the road in terms of social, technological, health and economical developments.
Thank you for this video
11:19 surprised he didn't mention VR. The Oculus Rift is taking it to new levels, I have it and man its potential is mind blowing. Forget social media..this IS it.
LEGEND
This was awesome !
great discussion
RIP Syd Mead
Fantastic video.
Syd Mead is Eternal.
I love his designs
He was a great communicator and teacher as well as designer artist. Man he’s missed
I believe that Syd Mead in our 21st Century is what Nikola Tesla was in his 18th Century in terms of Futuristic Ideas and Vision! I didn't know he had a hand in designing the sets in the Movie "Elysium"...I liked that Movie as well. Concerning Elon Musk and his Above Ground Loop Tube Train...Well the Secret Government and its Black Budget has already Built an Underground Version called a MagLev Tube Train that Travel at Supersonic Speeds and has been in service since the 70's!...God Bless!
Syd saw the future, and it's a cookbook.
AFAIK, Doug Trumbull at one time developed a 360° dome projection system, but couldn't implement it due to the [economics?] of setting it up.
Awesome. But i do not think the automobile will disappear anytime soon. Maybe the public networks might change, but the want to own your car will always be there, same as your own personal space. I think that ownership time frame is the only thing that has changed. You won't want it immediately. Only if you can afford it. Get to store it somewhere. So something cheap and easy to store away will sell. Love Syd's art, esp from the 60s (am a fan of 60's comics Modesty Blaise). Something very lifting, dynamic, dreamy? about that era.
The automobile will get more autonomous. Cars will become more like moving smartphones, that can be leased and more people will share them, because most people don't need them 24/7, especialy within urban environments.
@@Wuppie62 I think they will end up like the little electric cars in Idiocracy, at least in the UK
The man who inspired Cybertruck!
Well no, also the fact that the cyber truck is an abortion of a design Syd Mead has nothing to do with that mess.
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore I'll wait for my apology. www.businessinsider.com/blade-runners-syd-mead-says-cybertruck-exceeds-expectations-2019-11
Whose opinion on Cybertruck should I value more? Syd Mead or a random UA-cam commenter? Tough call...
That's Asymptotic, he says well, right after 19:35. "It all goes asymptotic and you can't grasp the progress anymore." "Eventually the data, when everything goes..all the asymtope (?), which are the data segments, go parallel vertical, and goes asymptotic, and you can't grasp the progress anymore.." Now if that's not an intriguing statement...especially since you're not quite sure about that one word that sounds like asymtope. Gonna have to email him about that.
Don't forget about Mass Effect
A smaller color palette lends to less color conflicts.
❤
25:25 Syd Mead about range anxiety with gas cars in the 50ies
7 years on and people are still buying personal cars with no end in sight.
he is a great thinker but i think the "horse" direction of cars seriously neglects the need to transport the family unit. that need is not likely to disappear altogether and a traditional carriage type car will still be more suited for this.
We already have iron and electrified horses, they're called bicycles and e-bikes. :) Great way of personal transportation in urban environment, because most cars are only occupied by 1,3 persons while taking up a lot of space, emitting bad fumes and fine dust, made of 2 tons of steel. Very inefficient.
There'll be many different cross over designs between bicycles and big automobiles.
11:55 what does that remind you of???????
My impression was always that the Earth's atmosphere had changed, becoming more cloudy and rainy due to global warming. So it had become a bit warmer, but the Earth, to compensate, had become much more cloudy.
That style, that he perfected and exaggerated in his own personal case, was really great. I remember board games, car/airplane/ship models all coming in boxes illustrated in that gouache style, and it was just terrific art, all done by unknowns.
Riveting!
RIP.
24:22 spoken like a true boomer
Love that he was an out and proud gay man .
Futurists think were going to go all hi tech ..flying cars''living on other planets ''all the bells and whistles you see in movies...in reality were going backwards...
17:35 - Do you want to become Daleks? Because this is how we become Daleks.
Wow Syd was actually gay! 24:51 Interesting.
Syd is right. Teens today have very little interest in cars
Huge fan of Syd Mead!
Fantastic video.
