TOM WELLING Shares Uncomfortable RUTGER HAUER Story On SMALLVILLE #smallville #talkville #season3
Rutger Hauer was really great in movies Nighthawks, Sin City and Batman Begins. RIP, another legend.
Don't forget The Hitcher....Blind Fury was funny, Split Second, LadyHawk, Wanted dead or Alive, A Breed Apart., Flesh & Blood, The original Buffy the Vampire movie, Past Midnight is excellent (Tarantinos first screen credit), many others....
Umm.. BLADERUNNER!! He has one of the most amazing scenes on the roof in the rain.
@@SamuelPearlman yup, known as the Tears in the rain speech….excellent
@@SamuelPearlman How could anyone miss that. I think it is age related. In the final scene, he was actually jumping between the rooftop of the buildings. I think he was actually doing it for fun as well. Scared the crap out of Harrison Ford.
@@snap-n-shoot Original blade runner.
Hauer so blew Stallone off the screen in Nighthawks that Stallone demanded (and was granted) that a number of Hauer’s scenes be cut
One of my former employers told the story of when she found herself dancing with Rutger Hauer at a party several years ago when he was in the area shooting a film. She said he looked pretty haggard, but was he very charming and was a great dancer. She'd had a huge crush on him since "Ladyhawke" and she wasn't disappointed meeting him in person.
Ladyhawke!! Oh....Ladyhawke!! wish I had met him. sigh.
Shout out to Rutger Hauer, wherever you are. RIP.
Rutger Hauer was a great actor, my 1st experience of him was in Blade Runner with Harrison Ford. He gave a bone chilling performance in that. Also The Hitcher was a great movie of his. As a young kid somewhere around 10 or 11 years old, watching those 2 movies got my adrenaline pumping. and gave me the shivers too. Any actor that has that affect on you is a good actor.
That makes him even more of a badass than he already was... 🤘💀
Disregarding rules and not respecting a rented space does not make you a badass.
It was likely just cultural differences and got resolved quickly, but if someone did that out of sheer petulant spite they would be a prick.
@@nebularain3338 It's hard to believe he was not aware of the "rules." People have not been allowed to smoke in airplanes for decades. Even if it didn't cause cancer, smoking in people's faces is just obnoxious. There's a difference between ignoring stupid laws, and just being an ass.
Random guy: "Rutger put out that cigarette. You can't do that here!".
Rutger: "I have seen things you people wouldn't believe .... "
Random guy: "I will find an ashtray for you sir".
Those memories will disappear, like ashes in an ashtray
Rutger Hauer always seemed like he was interesting to work with. These stories certainly are fun. His version of Morgan Edge always seemed quite intimidating to me. 😀
Someone already mentioned Ruger Hauer was in the original Blade Runner and likely stole the show from Harrison Ford. If you watch any of his early movies you will understand why someone might be hesitant to tell him to put out his cigarette.
especially if you've seen *The Hitcher*
I still find it odd that we've gotten to the point where people are that freaked out that a dude lit a cigarette (not the odd part) but would have been less freaked out if he had sparked up a joint.
Split Second solid movie, great acting from Rutger.
How can you NOT know he was Dutch or Dead?
Two words - Dopey Americans🇺🇸
OMG HE LIT UP A CIGARETTE....... OH THE HUMANITY HOW WILL WE EVER RECOVER 🤣
Bunch of softies mate
Rutgar shouldve been told, "Didnt you get the memo?!"
A bit before that time.
@@Lucretia9000 Old fart.
😂😂
Been a fan for years. Some great movies. Escape from sorbibor. Blind fury. Past midnight. Loads more. Wanted dead or alive.
Rutger Hauer was the best in Lady Hawk!
Criminally underrated! So good. Also as blind swordsman in Blind Fury & absolutely terrifying in the Hitcher.
Wanted Dead or Alive ... Oh, heck, he was good in pretty much anything he undertook to work in ...
....The Hitcher.
@@antimatta8714 Yeah ... I prefer LadyHawke ... and Wanted Dead or Alive ... his bad guys were way too scary!
@@scloftin8861 If you've never seen it watch Hobo with a Shotgun. Sooo awesomely cheesy.
It is a well known fact that Chuck Norris was terrified of Rutger Hauer.
?
So well known that no one actually knows or has heard this well known fact…
As it should be.
The Hitcher and Blade Runner are some of the greatest films ever made..... Let the man smoke a cigarette if he wants to 🚬
I saw Tom welling one day at the Helmuth lang store in nyc. This was many many years ago while he was in smallville. One of the best looking men I had ever seen
Tom Welling seems so wholesome it's like he was really playing himself.
Wanted to meet Rutger at a con in the mid 2000s. He had to cancel though, I think its when he was making Batman Begins.
He lit up a cigarette.....
GOOD..MOVIE STAR.rosenbaums reaction cracked me up lol
Thread carefully. Rutger Hauer is an acting treasure. "I've seen things....."
Wow that's a great story man. He wanted to smoke a cigarette and you were all like "um like can you not?"
Love your podcast, guys. But those short Clips really tend to have some very clickbaity titles... especially in nowadays climate 'uncomfortable story' makes one think of much worse thinks than indoor smoking...
Show some respect to the legend
Like tears in rain...
Wow. Would love to have Steve on the podcast. He sounds like quite the character…
Quite the character for telling grown people what they can and can't do?
Steve needs to get some of his teeth relocated, you know what I'm sayin.
Yes, bring me more of Steve. I bet he has some stories.
That Rutger Hauer got caught smoking and pissing off that roof in Blade Runner back in 82'
Omg! the guys speak very fast and it's hard to understand everything with my poor English but the videos are great.
I discovered this channel today and i'm happy because i would like to see this old series, but where?
Thanks for this good moments. 👻
Smallville is on HBO Max. At least here in my country.
Thanks a lot for this info! 🙏 I just looked on Google, to have HBO Max in France (where i am at the moment) we must subscribe to the Warner Pass... I'll find out because I've seen extracts from this series, it's great and the actors are endearing! :)
Sorry for my mistakes :/
Keep in mind he was Dutch, where they have had relaxed drug/tobacco laws, plus he came from an era where cigarettes weren't taboo indoors.
our FLORIS
God a bunch of marys, a little second hand smoke ain’t gonna kill u. If u r around it 24/7 for like 30 years yeah maybe. I’m so sick of the bitching about smoking. But McDonald’s and kfc are still legal.
What year was he on the show? I remember 2001, people could still smoke most places. By the end of smallville it would have definitely been strange to smoke indoors in America, but not Europe.
Whoever says “We” don’t do that here has the soul of Vanilla Ice. No soul. Dork.
I thought wardrobe guy just didn’t want the clothes smelling like smoke. “No you can’t do that.”
" just didn’t want the clothes smelling like smoke" It's his clothes. Who gives a f. I would've definitely conisdered putting the cigarette out on the person's face if they tried telling a grown adult whether they can smoke or not. 🤣
tom michael it's me ethan again the good news is i am rewatching smallville show again i told my friend jake and aunty bub i kept that promise to rewatch this show because i was born in early 2000s so tom your birthday is april 26th and mine is april 25th i realise that alfred gough and miles millar direct smallville and wednesday they also did screen script of spider man 2 my childhood sequel
Told Rutger to put out the cigarette. BUT doesn't say IF Rutger did. Notice that?
Blood of Heros is the best movie, no one has ever seen.
Am I supposed to watch this and come across with a negative opinion of Hauer?
Cigarettes? What a scandal!
I have a great Rutger Hauer (RIP) story that is too long to go into here and came by way of a makeup artist, whom I hired to work on one of my projects. Ultimately, I use the story when teaching to warn actors from employing back story development that impedes or draws focus from the intended narrative. One's character should feed the vision and not hamper it. Speaking of smoking, I was told another such story by the teamster assigned to drive me to set on a film in Virginia. He had worked on an earlier project with a well-known actor (still with us) playing a naval officer. Smoking on this particular naval vessel was also frowned upon. The actor chose to flaunt that directive due to his status. The captain had him escorted off. Follow the rules and extend all courtesy.
Smoking...😂
Great actor, I remember him getting replaced with another actor later on
Did'nt you know he was dead?
THAT is your Rutger Hauer story? I'd of let the legend smoke it. Geez.
Isn't this nice , model citizens throwing a dead guy under a bus. Zero respect anymore. FFS
Rutger wants to smoke cigars or cigarettes, you fucking let him.
Rutger was a great actor but smokers like that get on my nerves because the smell of smoke makes me feel sick. I agree that 75 really isn't that old and I'll take a guess that being a heavy smoker for most of his life is why he lost some years.
The fire marshal won’t allow it on set unless it’s a prop
Hauer died with cancer but not the type directly associated with smoking. it was either liver or pancreatic.
@@Solrac-Siul Cancer likes to play heads or tails :/
I’m sure you’re a great UA-cam commenter but I bet non smokers like you would’ve really gotten on Rutger’s nerves.
@@mattscott4286 We will never know because he isn't here anymore.
Laaaaaaaame story
I remember when I first saw a preview photo of that episode, which said he was playing Morgan Edge, I thought he looked like he was playing Jerry Springer. The resemblance was uncanny.
That’s a boring story about how society is putridly sanitised.
Ryan: Smoking… 🚬
He died in November of 2019. Guess when Roy Batty died in *Blade Runner?*
I understand you can’t smoke indoors but don’t be a dick but remember what Patrick Swayze said be nice until it’s time not to be nice
Tom Wellington should be in a Metropolis movie
Rutger ohh dear i didnt know he was such a heavy smoker i saw him in other shows he can act well when clark cuts himself💥to save his parents as edge wants a sample of clarks blood after clark violently donates his blood edge says What the hell is this ?😨clark says its what youre looking for edge then says it better be😨,clark realy gets rough with him in another scene where he tells him i dont want to see you in smallville again so take youre sorry 🤬back to metroplis boy what a scene
Smoking has killed way too many wonderful actors. Very sad.
Worst. The Mask Impression. Ever.
Rutger hauer only didnt care when he enjoys smoking 🚬 til his passing from brief illness not from lung cancer but still effected his health😑 and when prodcuer need to be specific rules in the series want smoke free on set actors and he can be intimidating by it and despite how nice he was off set but less cooperative Rip Rutger howler
I believe if I was him, I would have told them that I could always take my cigarettes and leave so they could recast me.
These guys have a high probability that they took the jab like most of Hollywood. Most people won’t make it to 74…
Sad reality right there.
True mate, I wonder if Rutger would've taken the jab... I'm assuming he didn't lit off the cigar so I'm hoping he wouldn't have taken the jab either
I hate the smell of smoke more than anything else out there.
How old was he? 75. That's not old.... Smoking.
The end was a little too funny....
How old was he? 75. That's not old.... Smoking.
