@@desertrose1226 Especially his blue piercing eyes. Went well with his blonde hair. RIP. I wish he got more prominent roles in his career like Roy Batty.
Rutger Hauer and Letterman are like oil and water; they're total opposites, which you can see in this interview. Yet, Rutger Hauer was undeniably one of the greatest actors of the 1980's. The most seductive villain.
Great actor. He is actually pretty funny as well. Just a great guy. He killed me in Blade Runner. What a performance. That monologue will never be forgotten.
His monologue was incredible! Blade Runner has always been a favorite movie of mine. Even though my mom rented it and watched it and I stayed up and watched it when I was way too young to see it.
When Rutger was young and had initial success with the TV series "Floris" he owned a little house in the township near me. The parents in law of a friend of mine own the house now, and old neighbor remembered Rutger riding his horse, naked mostly hahaha. What a character 😃
Rutger Hauer. Best actor and so very handsome too. 80s icon and Legend of the Netherlands...75 is too young for a man like Rutger Hauer to pass..! He reminds me of Mads Mikkelsen here actually.
Name more than three films of his which are memorable. I'd be curious also know who you think the best actors "who ever lived" are. "A loss for humanity": I haven't even heard that said of Shakespeare, Bach, Rembrandt, but then we have their work, so there is no loss.
Still shocked Rutger passed. Couldn't believe it when I heard. The Hitcher is one of my all time favourite films and Rutger s performance was beyond terrific. Blade Runner obviously great acting and great film. Very sad over him passing. RIP Rutger and Billy Drago .
David says "This next guy, oh man..." I think that's a serviceable expression of the impact he made on the general public, like even god's gonna have a tough time claiming him. "All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in the rain..." Ah well, shit.
The Blood of Heroes is one of my favorite B-movies he made. A shame through the whole interview all they talked about with it was that it was filmed in Australia. Rutger was and still is one of my favorite actors. R.I.P.
Seeing this after so many years... I love the man and I think he was an awesome actor. But he's terrible night show material! I remember how excited I was when I learned Rutger Hauer would be on Letterman, how I fought the sleep to stay up and watch him, and what a dissapointment that turned out to be. 😄 But I will never not love the way he made me feel watching "Ladyhawk".
Just to preface my thoughts here, they are offered in care and admiration of Rutger Hauer. I saw Rutger several times over the years living in Los Angeles. On one occasion at 72 Market Street (old Dudley Moore spot, look it up) he was healthy and looking good. On another occasion a few years later he was sitting in the Starbucks on the 3rd Street Promenade looking like a homeless person. I feel sorry from this clip and my personal observations that it seems he was coping with some addiction issues and was clearly coked up during this interview. If he'd had some help he might still be with us.
Hi! I was just thinking the same thing (seeing this interview for the first time). It is very strange that he keeps touching his nose and sniffing when he would have taken a pinch beforehand. The temptations in Hollywood probably didn't go past him either. Does anyone know if he had drug problems? It would be very sad.
Unfortunately Blood of Heroes was not any sort of hit, but it's definitely a goodie! Rutger doesn't even get to say what it's about though... Or Blind Fury either for that matter.
It is annoying and degrading to the actor how everyone narrow him to the Blade Runner and has to quote the “tears in the rain” every bloody time they hear Rutger Hauer. I’d be mightily pissed if I were him.
Rutger Hauer is one of my all time favourite actors. Absolute legend.
What I loved about Rutger was that he let himself age naturally. No Botox for this guy.
He didn't need it..he was bloody beautiful.
It’s a Dutch thing Amigo. The man 1000% Dutch.
@Mike yeah LOL hahaha 😂
@@desertrose1226 Especially his blue piercing eyes. Went well with his blonde hair. RIP. I wish he got more prominent roles in his career like Roy Batty.
Botox we’re not what they are nowadays too.
When i'm watching this and or any of his movies, i'm proud to be dutch. He's missed all over the world
Very true-Mr. Hauer is/was a credit to the Netherlands.
Hero of my country and my youth. He started in a Dutch TV series in the 60s, playing a valiant knight in medieval times.
Is there anywhere we can watch that?
@@SgtTibbsTX In my country the TV series "Floris" is available on DVD. I don't know if it's available elsewhere.
@@SgtTibbsTX
There are episodes of “Floris” on UA-cam.
That sounds like a wonderful show.
@@BarryHart-xo1oy It was. Directed by Paul Verhoeven, our Dutch director who became world famous, as did Hauer.

What lovely memories.
"...all those...moments lost... in time...like.... tears...in rain"
Blade Runner
R.I.P. Rutger.
Rutger was an amazing talent. Miss him in the movies.
He was soooo great...I love his films. He was born to be a great actor...
His performance in Blade Runner. Explosive!
yea man,,i didnt know that he was from Netherland..underrated actor at that times
Rutger Hauer. Best actor and so very handsome too. 80s icon and Legend of the Netherlands...75 is too young for a man like Rutger Hauer to pass..! He reminds me of Mads Mikkelsen here actually.
One of the best Actor who ever Lived.....what a lost for Humanity
RIP... I only can cry, cry,, don´t have words... , forever love him....
Letterman died?!
totally kidding

@@jimnewcombe7584 Blade Runner- The Hitcher - LadyHawke. Rutger was a legend.
Thanks but that isn't "more than three"! ...
My own favourite is "The Legend of the Holy Drinker."
'you should have spend more time in school' Reply: 'How many languages do you speak?' BEAUTIFUL!
Touché!
Seriously-Letterman only speaks English, while Hauer speaks four languages.Better to grow up in Europe than in the USA.
Rutger went all over the world but he always longed to be in his own country Holland, he always did. A real dutchman.
A truly admirable man.

He looked good in batman begins. Was nice to see him pop up in that,
Great actor. He is sadly missed.
When it come to his acting performances the man is a legend
Rutger Hauer, such a handsome man.
Just gorgeous. I loved everything about him and his movies ..his acting was so unique.
A real dutch man. We have some of the most handsome men in Holland.
Thanx again for another clip.Wish Rutger was still around
So do I. The world is a shitty place without people like him!
One of my fav actors 🇳🇱🇳🇱🔥🔥🙏🏻🙏🏻 Rest easy legend from 🏴🏴🏴
Ever seen Ladyhawke? He played a good romantic lead.
Only the greatest Replicant to ever stalk Los Angeles. RIP Rutger, your characters' villainy will be greatly missed.
Gorgeous man🔥
David would be happier welcoming Rambo than talking to Rutger Haur
God damn ! He is something.
Sexiest man ever x
@@Von1966 I agree!! Apart from my husband (lol) Rutger Hauer is/was the sexiest man in the world!!
Fun interview. That’s him at the peak of his career.
I watched Split Second 1992 the other day....super movie
RIP and all that, but man Rutger and Dave did not click at all.
Thanks Don. Very timely as always
He died in 2019, the same year that his Bladerunner character died.
I’m a new subscriber...now I understand what others were meaning when commenting on other videos about celebrity deaths. RIP Rutger Haur.
RIP Rutger.
"I want more life, fucker." Rutger Hauer to his creator as Roy Batty in Blade Runner.
Looked so well there, spoke good American ,,,,1990 only seems like yesterday
I can't believe I was already alive then! I feel so OLD! I was a mere kiddo then but still...I feel old.

Never knew Rutger was a fan of the booger sugar.
Everyone did that shit then, maybe even Rutger.

I've Just watched split second, I had a lot of fun 😊
LOVE Blind Fury! wish Letterman woulda let Rutger talk about it.

This was a painful interview. Im a big fan of both these legends. Wish they could have shared more laughs.

I like his role in the film of Sobibor

He was 75 years old! If drugs are gonna kill they usually kill people under 50! Rutger was a smoker and it’s smoking that really fucks up your health.

when he said "swam in the canals" it sounded just like mads mikelsen
I think Mads would be the PERFECT modern Hitcher, John Ryder…
Danish and Dutch sound very similair and are often mistaken for one another.
he is so funny

Dude, his accent changed from earlier interviews
Fan from india
Who was on the show just before Hauer? Was he referring to James “Buster” Douglas?
He was.
2:27 is the exact moment Dave realizes this interview is never getting back on the rails.
One can sail from the Hudson to Chicago via the Eire Canal and the Great Lakes, but Hauer’s ship most likely used the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
Hobo with a Shotgun!
My man. RIP
Nighthawks Blade runner ,Hitcher Sin City awesome movies RIP Rutger
Rutger is constantly wiping his nose and sniffing. Poor guy having to do a tv interview with such a bad cold!! :)
Nighthawks is a favorite.

Personally I most remember him for Split Second. He was funny as hell in that movie
What did he die of?
No one knows ...? Very mysterious & private.
I think cancer
It’s crazy that he’s Dutch because one, most if not all of his movies, he hides his accent. Another thing, his accent must’ve must of grew out of him.
What happened to his real Dutch accent?
" how do you like shitsville" 😝✌️
