@@JBTV can you apply bulls eye 123 with a microfiber mini roller? Also can you apply Dulux Heritage eggshell using microfiber mini roller on top of bulls eye 123?
Looks a really good finish with water based paints jb👍 I’m old school and a professional painter & decorator. Oil based for me on these types of doors as mentioned like cardboard manufactured so very light sandpaper work minimum 120 grit also put lining paper under the door as not to pick up any dust particles from a dust sheet that can be transferred back to the door. Dry brush control in the corners to stop any runs after door is finished 👍 I like to use 4” Hamilton roller heads and lint free for a perfect finish. 👍 I suppose all painters & decorators have different ways, tips & tricks etc. So good job jb and good clear video 👍
Hats off for that video! I wanted to see something quick how to paint a door, but your style grabbed me and watched it till the end. Many thanks indeed, appreciate the effort and I learnt a few helpful tips. Good jokes too ;-). Next for me to paint that damn door.
Thanks very much for the links and video mate, much appreciated. Currently trying to decorate my first house so I'm very new to all of this decorating lark! Your tips are absolutely priceless, thanks!
Very clear ! I have "wood grain effect doors" which appear to be imprinted cardboard grain laid on the door facings. Any attempt to sand them is like tearing back this thin layer of cardboard. White spirit has done till now in erasing finger grease. But I guess for re-painting I'll have to use a primer and high opacity top coat ( just the one .. .)
Just watched this AFTER painting my doors for first time. Great tips! I had to finish the second coat at dusk and have a couple of areas that are a little patchy(!!) - can I touch up with roller or will it need a full third coat using my now improved (thanks to you!) technique?
Hi Justin , thanks for doing this door painting Vlog on your channel. I am in the process of doing my Living Room door up both sides . I have sanded and wiped it over to I really need to Prime the door as well before I paint it ? I am using the low odour Dulux Once white gloss paint on it . It is a plain big standard door with no panels in it. ????
Would this same technique work if I want to change the door colour from dark grey to a lighter colour like white or beige ? Would the initial sanding with 80 and primer be enough to paint over a darker colour ?
first your sleeve is to fluffy for a door,6mm microfiber nook and cranny, second black polythene under door is the best sheet for painting door, crown is a resene brand in nz so i would not mix and match as to warrenty , leading edge is the term used for the door edge
Thanks, but how do you avoid the orange peel effecr, particularly noticeable on flush doors. Aren't you supposed to feather off using a thin, wide brush?
where, pray, does one purchase such a roller in GB?. I recommend using a ProDec Advance Ice Fusion 100mm roller for flush doors, much finer than ordinary rollers & so finish is greatly improved
What à lovely job ! I am painting 2 that are matt grey, I sanded one door back to its original (old white) colour and am going to paint it with white satin. Could I have left the old matt on as an undercoat? Cheers
Hello. Could you please give me your best advice on choosing the most durable water based for my wooden framed windows? Using 80 grit sandpaper I spent hours & days hand sanding x 4 wooden sash window frames. I sanded off old layers of yellowed gloss leaving behind a thin layer of gloss which I can now see the wood grain through. I now have trust issues finding the most durable water based paints for my interior. I want to be 100% sure I am choosing the right paint system so I don't have to re-do all my efforts ? I am new to water based paints. So how would I go about this ? Do I need to prime ? uncoat ? Please tell me the most professional trustworthy durable pants recommended with the longest lasting effect ? Regards Micheal
@@JBTV What to do if someone has lightly rollered a smear (not a thorough job at all) of matt emulsion on top of old gloss (quite tired) painted doors? Sand or scrape or.. what will take the emulsion off or suitably prepare the surface for a new gloss coat?
Dear Justin, thank you for this great video and for your patient and clear voice throughout. I am unwell in bed but need to paint my doors as soon as I am able to as I painted all the property walls (beautifully!) this summer. When loading the brush, do you use plenty of paint or is less paint better? It is many years since I painted doors and I am not looking forward to the event at all.😕 All my doors are unpanelled so I assume I shall need to use a larger brush or roller. I have never used a roller brush before for any painting so it will be rather daunting. When I do feel well enough, and when I get the necessary tools together, I shall be checking your video often for advice. I have just thought of one more query. I have no idea whether the original gloss paint used was water or oil based. As long as I follow your instructions on sandpapering etc., will this in turn mean I can use a water-based gloss paint which is my preferred choice? Thank you.
I notice you didn’t go back over rolled sections with a brush. Doesn’t this make the finish on the rolled sections look different to the parts of the door you cut in with the brush?
@@JBTV thank you for the response, can you recommend what paint is best to use satinwood or eggshell. Would the wood grains still show if it was to be painted rather than stained
Loving your videos Justin! We're planning on painting our orange varnished oak veneer internal door this summer, would we use the same technique with a Zinsser 123 primer (2 x) first and then paint with top coat paint (2 x)?
Justin thanks. I'm 75 & am now the only handy person & your video helps a lot as I can't take door off. It would be too hard.
Bless you for this. It's so nice to know that my videos are helping people. Thank you so much. Hope you enjoy the videos.

My brother's tip for painting white on white - use an LED lamp to shine on where you are working. It shows up the unpainted bits!
Thanks. Great video. Out of interest do you use the roller again if so what’s the best way to clean it please?
Thanks man. Yes I do, scrap as much paint as possible off the roller. Then wash with water, and a little green liquid 😉
Very good

Out of interest how much would you charge for doing a door ? Thanks
Hi Justin, do you wipe surface down with a wet cloth, when using water based products? 👍👍👍
Not entirely necessary, but yes I usually wipe with a very slightly damp cloth after dusting
If an indoor door has been gloss painted already, must a person use undercoat first to gloss it again?
No, just rub it down with a bit of 180 grit paper to take away the shine, dust off, wipe clean,... and you're ready to go 👍

Good job JB. I use fat hog rollers for these jobs , leaves a great finish, holds a lot of paint too. 👍🏻👍🏻

You don't notice it, the brushed section is minimal and both sections of paint are very flat

Yes you do 👍

@@JBTV water based or oils based primer ?
@soothingsounds2650 personally, water based primer and water based top coat, and same goes with oil based. If it's indoors, I'd go for water based
@@JBTV cheers mate, yes for internal doors, planning to use primer and then a satinwood finish paint for the top coat
try the fussy bloke rollers

What type of paint are you using here, please?
It's a water based Satinwood
What was the finish like.was it very orange peel
In the clip where it was dry, it was hard to see, but yes it's pretty flat, more flat than orange peel!
So u DON'T need to lay off with a brush .👍😁
@@StephenSmith-vs8hr The roller leaves the paint really flat, so it really depends on whether you want a slightly brushed finish..
