    Thanks for the video. I have 11 doors i was not looking forward to replacing. And this is an older home with oddball size doors. This method would definitely be easier and less expensive

    Tips from experience revamping stuff:
    May want to lay the door down on the floor while you place and glue the trim pieces to it, they wouldn’t so easily slide around, or even use a nail gun so the nails are very small and you can fill the holes with wood filler after and sand before painting. Sanding the trim pieces and the door would give the chalk paint a smoother surface to settle in, and light sanding between coats of paint makes for a super smooth finish as well.
    (All up to the individual, these are just things I’ve found through trial, error, and mentors to work well on projects like this.)

      Hehe thank you for your kind words ❤️❤️ take it slow, one project, one wall at a time. That’s the way I had to do it through our house, with working and having two little kids at home :) Took me over two years. Although it has helped a lot to get stuff done now that the kids are older and more self-sufficient. LOL

    Thanks for the great instructional video, I can’t wait to get started! Do you have a link to the Annie Sloan paint you reference that you used instead of primer? Is there a reason to use chalk paint instead of primer as your first coat? Will you be bringing you blog back online, looks like it’s down right now :(

    • @OriginallyWorn
      @OriginallyWorn  4 місяці тому

      Hello! I hope this video has helped! As for Annie Sloan paint, I would suggest to check out their website (www.anniesloan.com/) and see if you have a Stockist near by. Most of the stores are trained very well in paint and it’s fun to see it all in person. But the reason I chose it in this project was to be able to paint without sanding. And technically you can do that with the other primer I showed, and I have done that too, I just love Annie Sloan paints. If you do use a traditional primer make sure you use a no sand/high adhesion one like Zinner 123. As for the blog, I honestly don’t know. I am working on redesigning it all, but not sure what will stay or not. But it helps to know you noticed ❤️

      hehe, we all need a project right now! If you want to go white, with Annie Sloan you really could use any light color, light country Grey or chicago grey, but you could also use Old White. You could also use Bulls eye 123 primer. Then paint with any white latex or trim paint you desire. Or keep painting with Annie Sloan old white and wax. Lots of ways you could go here with what you have on had, etc.

    As morrisjvan said, you need to put it on some saw horses to work on it. 2nd thing is invest in a tape measure. 3rd, you need to either tack the miter together with a brad nailer or glue/set/& wood putty the miter. 4th is sand down the lathe. Turned out nice but up close you can see the roughness.

    Why did you decide to use so much of the liquid nails? I think I would have just used a dab to hold every 4-6 inches & brad nailed the lath strips directly to the door. Is there a reason why you decided to use so much?

    • @OriginallyWorn
      @OriginallyWorn  5 років тому +7

      I used it like that, because that is what the directions on the back of the Liquid Nails says to do. They advise against dabs. From their site "For smaller trim and molding, run a 1/4-inch continuous line (bead) along the back of the trim or molding. F or trim or molding larger than 2 inches in width, run a 1/4 -inch serpentine bead (S-bead) of constructive adhesive about 1 1/2-inches from both edges of the trim."
      As for the brad nailer, It is a hollow core so I didn't think the nails would hold all that well and didnt need to with using the liquid nails.

      @@OriginallyWorn LOL! Whatever works. I have done it with hot glue before & it lasted over 30 years. Yes, I used tiny brad nails that I pounded in by hand, with a small finishing hammer. Hey!! This video is over 2 years old I believe and the doors look as perfect as the day I did it. So I would say yes, it has held up great ❤️ and I did paint all my hinges and handles black. I have a video on how I did that so they would stay painted also. They have held up great for the most part there too.

    What do you think about using a pre made wainscot and gluing it down? I don’t have any cutting tools

    • @OriginallyWorn
      @OriginallyWorn  2 роки тому

      You could certainly do that! Also, some home stores will cut things down for you. Although it depends on a variety of factors if they will.

    A contractor quoted $800 or more per door for trim and paint. So I came a looking on TY and found you.

    • @OriginallyWorn
      @OriginallyWorn  3 роки тому +1

      That’s an insane amount! You certainly can spend more then $3 if you use nicer trim but more like $20 per door for nicer trim 🤦‍♀️ so crazy!

      Hello. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint for the primer and Sherwin Williams paint for the main paint. You could also use bulls eye 123 for the primer instead of the Annie Sloan.

    Does this door have a little texture to the touch, or is it smooth?

    • @OriginallyWorn
      @OriginallyWorn  2 роки тому

      It is pretty smooth, not like a spray finish, but I wouldn’t really say it had any texture either. You can use a self leveling by paint if you want a super smooth look. Or spray.
