I think these are the best looking goggles. The housing is simple and sleek. I'd personally just prefer Manual Gain and have the option to run a battery pack.
Thank you for pointing out 10160 vs 11769 Tubes. Just one question: Why does the connector to be modified: I imagene a simplier solution like an adapter, or a socket that just has 2 out of the 3 connector pinned. By this, a 10160 housing could use 11769 Tubes, rendering the owner of the tube more versatile: If he can from than on put 11769 into every device. As this "idea" is not hard to think about, I guess there will be an answer as why this isnt offered on a regular basis already? I would appreciate your comment. As always: Great content TNVC and its Staff is producing! Thanks again
The goggle itself needs to have the electronics to support gain control. Adding gain control functionality adds complexity and cost. It’s much easier to make autogain housings that uses 10160 tubes.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Nevermind: I didnt know L3 Tubes from 2012 on have a removable pigtail, so the 10160 and 11769 are pratictly the same, one is shipped with the pigtail installed and the other not. I have the IPD stops on mine, and to be quite honest, I don't use them anymore. Unless you put on your helmet in the exact same spot every time, you're going to have to either shift your helmet slightly to get that 'perfect' eye box, or adjust the pods ever so slightly. After playing with mines for almost a year now, it's actually just easier and faster to use it w/o the IPDs.
Why? The night is 12 hours. The goggles power on by a single cr123 battery. The batt pack is how long and how much weight + cables that will snag. Just put on a extra 2 pounds and say you did
Mine finally arrived! White Phos from TNVG. They say some "peppering" is acceptable, and common, but dang it really does bug me. I got a set in zone 2 on the right, and three smaller dots in zone 2 and zone 3 on the left. They said I could have specified cleaner tubes, but I thought hat went without being said. mines had that too. From what I've read, it's very common in the DTNVS. However, there is a 'fix'. I sent it back to TNVC and they shaved/trimmed down the light pipes and all is good now.

Thanks for the information! One additional thing I can add for people looking at the DTNVS in regards to the unit "turning off/on" when it rotates up... If you have them up and turned off (knob off) and then turn them on (knob on) the tubes will turn on for a half second, be careful. :) Can you make a video on the 1531 now that they are avail?

Just ordered the dtnvs with photonis echo tubes. Not sure if people are modifying the pigtails for those to get them to work with dtnvs, or does that only apply to L3/Harris/Elbit tubes?

My buddy is selling an old Litton m942 for $400, do you think that is a good purchase for me? I was thinking about using the tube out of it to build a pvs14 but I’m not sure about the tube compatibility though. Thank you
I think that’s a fair price if it’s a clean tube with no blems. It should drop right in but the gain control on the -14 won’t work since the tube doesn’t have gain control
@@thesavage6484 Even with an A zone blemish that's an absolute steal. Definitely buy it. No wait, don't buy it and send me your buddy's contact and I'LL buy it. lol
I’m sure it’s possible for Act in Black to do, however, I doubt they would offer it as an option because the overwhelming majority want the auto off feature.
If you got data records with it, it’ll say what format it is the “type” line at the top of the sheet. If they are 11769, as long as they were done correctly, which is pretty easy with L3H tubes, they will work fine. The ports where the EGAC was pulled out should get plugs put into them so they’re not wide open for debris to possibly get inside.
Basically yes, however actual 10160 tubes will generally have a lower maximum gain. The term auto gain is kind of misleading in terms of what it does. It’s just the ABC (automatic brightness control) that all tubes have. With your -14s on a bright moon night if you’ve ever noticed them dim when going from dark to bright, that’s the ABC, so that’s how the DTNVS will perform. 👍
Hi Nitewalker, quick question. I'm new to the night vision arena and I watched a shit ton of your vids and other channels before finally making a purchase. The dealer I purchased from was super quick in trading me out for a new monocular, but now I'm super nervous about using them. How fragile are these night vision devices? Can far away street lamps cause a tube to burn out? I know it's a lot of work editing and uploading them for us to watch. You the man.
It’s very rare for tubes to just die. What might have happened and I’m curious if they actually swapped out the tube, is that tube lock ring inside the housing pops loose, and the tube looses contact with the electrical connections from the battery compartment. That can happen by dropping it or if whoever assembled it threaded it incorrectly. In either case, they got you squared away which is the important thing. Don’t worry about hurting it from regular use. Modern tubes are pretty tough.
