    Just to clarify: *My intent is NOT to broadly assert that "endurance threshold is better than flat health."* As I said in the video, endurance threshold is nearly always worse than flat health in terms of effective HP. It just has better synergy with recovery (think of it as a 2.5x multiplier to recovery while under threshold). I said that I tend to prefer endurance threshold for my characters, which may or may not be built anything like yours. You should draw your own conclusions about the trade-off between the two stats. I hope this video helps you do so.

      There is a node in death seal that locks you into 35% health giving you massive dmg and defensive buffs ( which is currently bugged giving less dmg buffs so its not meta), so if you get some T7 Endurance thresholds with 60% endurance and High Int + HP that build gets hella tanky. I don't remember which subclass has it but one of the rogue trees has up to 15% of max hp as endurance threshold too. It's not a massive number, but it's definitely nice to have especially early on when you don't quite have all the defensive layers you want yet.

      It's Falconer. It only applies if you haven't been hit recently, so it's best when paired with high dodge chance. Even still, it may not be the most reliable, given that endurance tends to be most useful after you've already taken some damage. It's still good against one-shots and against pure DoT (no hit).

    The conclusion that flat endurance threshold is better than flat health comes with the comparison at 50% increased health. At that percentage, flat health already has better numbers but the logic for choosing end threshold makes sense, but i disagree with the premise that an end game character only has 50% increased health. That number is definitely on the very low side and any extra health% will keep making flat health stronger and stronger by comparison.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому

      Fair point. By "endgame" I didn't necessarily mean a fully min-maxed build. If you have T7 percent/hybrid health wherever you can get it, and your class has percent health available on the passive tree, you may very well be closer to 100% increased health than to 50%. But I don't think it's unfair to say that many characters running around the monolith are closer to 50% than to 100%.

      If your build's primary recovery method is leech, then I'm not a huge fan of #2, personally -- then if you ever get to 20% health you either potion or die? Option #3 is what I've been doing most of the time and it always a solid choice if your build has a moderate investment into armor (and it probably should). Option #1 sounds good in theory, but I've never tried it myself, so I don't know if the potion sustain is sufficient in practice. It definitely seems like the least generic option, so I'd probably try #1 and see how fun it is to play.

    • @impatientimp3292

    Does the damage reduction from endurance calculate after other reduction like armor? I assume it does

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому

      As far as I'm aware, it doesn't matter whether it's applied before or after. That's because (a) neither mechanic's damage reduction percentage depends on incoming damage, (b) multiplication is commutative, and (c) to my knowledge there are no mechanics that interact with "damage mitigated by armor" or anything like that. Am I mistaken about point (c)?

  • @Ares42
    @Ares42 4 місяці тому

    You should've probably made the comparison of Endurance Threshold vs Flat Health and its inherent Endurance Threshold before going into multipliers. Basically showing that 100 Threshold = 150 effective health, while 100 Flat Health = 130 effective health. Without that context it makes it look like Endurance Threshold is far better than Flat Health before you get better gear. This could've also lead into including the math that illustrates that Threshold is always worse than Flat Health unless you are at or over 56% endurance reduction.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому

      I did provide that context though, just not in the order you're suggesting. I'm pretty certain that anyone who watches the video will understand my conclusion: endurance threshold is almost always worse than flat health in terms of effective HP, but it has its own mechanical benefits that are harder to quantify.

    • @Ares42
      @Ares42 4 місяці тому

      @@sergeantminor256 Yea, I don't think it changes the overall message, but some people might end up reaching the conclusion that Threshold is really good if you don't have any health multipliers (yet).

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому

      @@Ares42 You do have a point. Perhaps it would have been more intuitive to do it the other way around. I guess in my mind, multiplication is commutative anyway, so it didn't matter to me which point was made first.

    There is % of maximum health gained as Endurance Threshold as an implicit for Revenant Plate for the Acolyte. That is the only source I know of that can scale Endurance Threshold more relative to your health. Just thought I'd add this as an additional detail for anyone considering an Acolyte that does not (for some reason) choose to go ward, such as a Necromancer that wants life or an Acolyte that uses Symbol of Demise and is therefore consuming their entire ward pool frequently enough to benefit from having more endurance.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому +2

      True! I believe the Falconer also has passives that can give extra max health as endurance threshold (but it's conditional -- requires not having been hit recently). I didn't want to get lost in edge cases in this video, so I kept it simple.
      Regarding things that may have synergy with endurance (e.g. Symbol of Demise, Death Seal), I'd love to go into detail about those too, but I'm not sure there's quite enough material to go off of at the moment, and I want to keep my LE content straightforward and accessible for now.

    Since you mentioned wards, it would be good thing to explain 'damage dealt to mana before health' as well, since that one was major cause of confusion after update.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому

      Now that you mention it, does that interaction work the way you'd expect? Or is there something unintuitive about it? Endurance is only supposed to apply to damage dealt to health. So I assume any damage dealt to mana is dealt in full. Is that correct?

    • @slavisamacanovic155
      @slavisamacanovic155 4 місяці тому

      @@sergeantminor256 It is correct, but up to recently it was different behavior. Endurance used to work if you fully cover HP pool and have damage dealt to mana at 100%.

    • @izvrix
      @izvrix 4 місяці тому +1

      No, there's big synergy there, if you endurance threshold covers all of your hp, first the dmg is reduced by 60%, only 40% of remaining dmg will dealt to your hp/mana. See fractured crown builds for reference

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому +1

      @@izvrix So the damage is mitigated by endurance before it's redirected to mana? As a PoE player I'll admit that's not how I expected it to work. Thanks for the info, I'll have to look into that more.

    Personally i feel like flat health should really be taken over end thresh for the vast majority of builds.
    Yes, end thresh makes your healing more efficient, but in general sustain is a pretty accessible thing and you can usually get it elsewhere if you really need to compensate for that.
    Building end threshold however means you have worse overall defensive layers, which is harder to build elsewhere.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому

      It essentially boils down to a trade-off between raw eHP and recovery effectiveness. I think people generally underrate endurance threshold as a viable way to scale survivability, but I wouldn't be opposed to small numerical buffs to endurance threshold affixes.

  • @Deloxor
    @Deloxor 4 місяці тому +2

    One thing you have missed is that endurance loses even more value compared to health the more other less damage taken modifiers you already have. If you already have an accumulated 30% less damage taken then each point of health gets even more value and thus endurance threshold loses even more value.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому +8

      This isn't true -- all sources of "less damage taken" are multiplicative, so the existence of other such modifiers has no bearing on the relative value of endurance threshold and health. I'm happy to give you some concrete numbers if you find this argument unconvincing.

    • @koayzb
      @koayzb 4 місяці тому

      @@sergeantminor256 It does?
      Endurance threshold only applies more endurance EHP while straight HP applies to everything including endurance, which would push your ehp much more since your base endurance threshold is always 20% of your health.

    • @sergeantminor256
      @sergeantminor256  4 місяці тому +1

      @@koayzbAt 60% endurance, you can essentially think of the endurance mechanic (as a whole) as being a 1.3x multiplier to effective HP. Let's say you have 60% endurance and 1000 health (0% increased), for a total of 1300 eHP.
      1. +100 health increases effective HP by 100 * 1.3 = 130 (+10%).
      2. +100 endurance threshold increases effective HP by 100 * 1.5 = 150 (+11.5%).
      Now let's say you have 50% damage reduction from elsewhere, so that your eHP is 2600.
      1. +100 health increases effective HP by 100 * 1.3 / 0.5 = 260 (+10%).
      2. +100 endurance threshold increases effective HP by 100 * 1.5 / 0.5 = 300 (+11.5%).
      The "less damage taken" works as a multiplier to total eHP. You just take the final result and multiply by 2. It doesn't really change any of the math that's done before that point.
