  • The Crooked River Trailhead is located less than 2 hours from Boise Idaho near the town of Idaho City. It's an easy hike that the whole family can do. With little elevation gain and an easy path to follow it makes for a great winter hike on a day where you want to get out of the city for a little while. And if you want to try Winter backpacking there are several great spot next to the river.

    We love the crooked river trail and all it's bridges, but have never been in the winter. It looks awesome! We will have to check it out!

    Stellar video brother! I can definitely relate to what you were saying regarding the resounding and powerful silence in the peaceful wintertime woods... it's soul stirring. Thumbs up and a sub from a fellow Idahoan.

    if no one has told you yet. putting near boiling water in a nalgene and then putting it in a sock works well as a sleeping bag heater. Just something I have used for those cold winter nights.

    Great video and thanks to you I bought Scott Marchant's book! One little tiny comment I will make is that me, being from northern Minnesota, I would not consider that winter. Winter is many feet of snow and well below zero.

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  2 роки тому

      Lol. Winter for me is snow on the ground!

    Great content! I would recommend Danner Canadian boots...they are incredible! Still going on the first pair (16 years). I have a new pair in box, that I haven't broken out yet.

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  2 роки тому

      Thanks! I bought a different brand of Canadian boots (Kamik) and I love them so far. Next pair I’ll try some Danner boots. The Canadians know what’s up with the outdoor cold weather gear 😂 if it’s built for Canada winters I am down to give it a shot!

    Hey John I found a boot that works great to stay dry and they do not over heat feet making them sweat. They are called Danner Alsea GORE-TEX Hunting Boots.

    So I tried to hike this today. Not sure if it is even accessible due to all the snow right now. The lack of access to be able to do anything during the winter really sucks here in Idaho. Or maybe I just don’t know where to go.

    Sealsinkz waterproof socks with trail runners.
    Learned that from motivated by mountains. Works great.

      Sealskins!!! I’ve got a pair that I toss on when I have a stream crossing, but using them to hike with trail runners is a great idea… I think I’ll try it.

    I didn't have a river for white background noise. My trip was dead silent. Iwould make some noise just to make sure I wasn't deaf

    So I'm assuming if you were able to do this, they finally replaced the bridge at the start of the trail? It was still just logs about 7 feet above the water last time I was there

    • @JonConti
      @JonConti  2 роки тому +1

      Ya the bridge at the start was nice, it’s definitely finished.

    Was driving in the area and my truck hit a bigfoot. I called the governors office for rescue. They sent 2 black helicopters and rexcued the bigfoot and left me to fend for myself with my wrecked truck. F'n sasquatches dont pay taxes!
