When you see that in some countries an e-Tron costs in business leasing not much more than an ID.3/ID.4; less than a Tesla M3 SR+, perhaps you will take an SUV even you do not really like the concept.

Thank YOU for watching. SUVs I struggle with on the basis that they don't really do anything better than a sorted estate car. They are heavier, less efficient, cost more to run, harder on brakes and tyres, and nobody really goes offroading in them. Increasingly, you also look like a clueless dinosaur driving them.

'Virtually none' was a rhetorical device, but costing around three times the median annual salary of a full-time UK worker places it far beyond the means of the vast majority of us, so I think the thrust of my comment is sound. Happy for you if you have such means at your disposal, but take a look at the Polestar first brother.

Very few, of course, because we have already self-selected out of the content by clicking away, to the detriment of the channel. I thought Jonny had skilfully managed to keep a broad range of viewers engaged and entertained reviewing a highly aspirational product, in a medium with a notoriously short attention span. And that is a real skill well worth celebrating and encouraging.

In Norway we have tons of chargers all over and at home I have a wall mounted charger , so range is a non issue . The app, yeah well the Audi app is pretty bad, but it keeps getting better, but the car. Wow the car is such a great piece of engineering. Drives great, it's so silent and it feels really luxurious. Its also a head turner , as the Tesla is something you see everywhere , the sportsback is quite new and tons of people come over to ask what car it is . We are quite lucky here in Norway as we get a lot of government grants to buy electric , so the price isn't as bad as it is in the UK ( and we normally have very expensive cars here in Norway )

That's just my own opinion and I might be wrong. I had a test drive in a top of the range model S and it blew my mind away. What Tesla have achieved is phenomenal, but other car manufacturers are catching up, most with better quality and a far more superior reputation. I feel Polestar are very different and I like different. Everyone will choose Audi's, Tesla's, Jaguars, etc. It's just my personal taste. But, just to contradict myself, an Audi with a combustion engine, such as an RS5 will twist my arm. And that probably doesn't answer your question. 🤪

John Cutler. What puts me off Teslas....at least for now, is the plethora of obviously sponsored Tesla reviews all over the place who will eulogies over Teslas as if their lives depended on it. What really gets me with the model 3 is people trying to convince everyone that substituting practically every car function with one giant touch screen is some technological revolution, rather than calling it what it is which is cost cutting.

My Q3 is paid up now my dealer called to talk about what I'm getting next. They loaned me the 55 e-tron for a weekend when it was launched and he knows I want an EV next, I made that clear 5 years ago when I bought this Euro6 diesel. They only have the two 'trons at the moment and they're way over budget. MEB based Q4 is on the way but 2nd quarter next year? maybe?
He's asked me in to all about optimum trade-in and to see what they can do. I will go listen to what they offer and I'll be dead straight. I love the Audi, the build quality and the cabins. I've been the factory and suppliers here in Belgium for work, They're a technical masterpiece and extremely well engineered. Their pricing though, swings right out the pan. A new Q3, similar spec to mine is over €60k with all the options. for that money I've got a Tesla or Polestar and leaning slightly towards the Polestar because everyone has a Tesla, a bit like everyone has an Audi.

But I get my full travel expenses with work and electric is working out about half the cost of diesel. (my normal monthly fuel spend was £200 per month or a tank a week ish - last 2 weeks of charging has come out at about £40 electric).
I'm. Getting between 2.2 and 2.8kw/mi depending on traffic and how I drive - it says in manual give it 3k miles to settle in though before I pass judgement on efficency. Its thirsty vs other EVs but still cheaper than diesel. Haven't done a full range trial yet but it looks like 180- 200 miles with careful driving is achievable. It charges stupidly fast on a high power charger.
Yep I got a 7kw pod point - charges up without a fuss reliably. 30% charge takes a mere 4 hours so even a full chargecan be done over night.

As a company director, sure I can buy and right off against tax 1 st year, but even so, it’s a still lot of cash. Better to buy small EV like i3 or Zoe “for the wife/ station run/ shopping “ and also get a normal SUV for messing about in and long family runs. The car is covered in lines that are supposed to look like battery bars, you know, the thing you stare at if you have massive range anxiety.
55 means 95 and 50 means 71. The charging port is behind a stupidly overengineered door. The cameras on the sides are almost as big as mirrors anyway. It's a "coupe SUV", whatever the hell that is.

TBH, it's the first Audi I've seen in years that interests me even slightly, especially the interior finish - and I think it's the first fastback SUV design that gets it right; BMWs X6 was ungainly and the Mercedes-Benz was a horrible looking thing.
I would still go with an I-Pace over this due to the handling dynamics, and the fact it's a ground-up-design EV (plus the I-Pace is probably still the best-looking EV on the market - it's not just another lumbering SUV).
I think that the e-Tron will be a 'gateway' SUV for the well-heeled, and while it's not the best EV in any real metric (other than cabin refinement), if it can bring a new demographic to EV usage, then bring it on!

I drove one of these today (I'm in the States) so I could compare it to the I-Pace I drove a week ago. It had nicer wheels than the one in the video, and regular door mirrors, but was otherwise the same. Here are my impressions:
The looks are similarly handsome, very hard to choose between the two. I like the sportback better than the standard E-tron, but I think the Jag looks better than both Audis. That's subjective.
The back seat may be objectively bigger in the Audi, but it doesn't feel like it. The Jag has a glass panel that goes all the way back to the rear seat, making the whole space, front to rear, feel airy and light. The Audi feels claustrophobic by comparison, and the rear seat HVAC is better in the Jag, as well (the vents are on the side pillars, which circulates air better than center console vents).
Both have fantastically comfortable seats with excellent controls, front and rear. The Audi is slightly more comfortable and easy to adjust, while the Jag has much better heating/cooling function.
The tech in the Audi is better. Both have excellent nav systems, but the way you can put the Audi's navigation map into the instrument cluster and expand its size is great. The Jag I drove had a HUD, which I prefer, but the Audi can, apparently, be spec'd with one, too. Both have very responsive screens with easy to use layout. The Audi camera system beats the Jag. Both cars have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, but the Audi system uses bluetooth whereas the Jag requires a cord. If you care only about tech, the Audi is probably for you.
The cargo area is a bit bigger in the Audi, but if cargo space is your concern you should get the regular E-tron instead of the sportback.
Now the important part: driving characteristics.
Both cars have air suspension with adjustable ride height. The ride in the Audi is definitely a little more refined than the Jag; It's floaty and soft pretty much all the time, regardless of drive mode. I didn't like that... I drove the sportback because I thought it was supposed to be sporty. Conversely, the Jag is soft and comfy in comfort mode but definitely more poised and firm when I hustled it around the back roads in dynamic mode. The Jag is also quicker (0-60 in 4.4 seconds vs. 5.7 seconds) and lighter. In the Audi you feel the excess weight. Especially in dynamic mode when you're trying to take a curve just a hair too fast and wind up in a pucker moment. In the Jag, you can turn creep on or off, depending on whether you prefer it to inch forward at a stoplight or stay put until the go pedal is pressed. You can also set the regenerative braking to a higher setting if you want to do more "one-pedal driving" (the Audi doesn't have multiple regen settings).
Now I have to discuss the Audi's brakes. They're not finished. Initial press of the pedal, if you're soft as a feather, will give you smooth, linear brake feel. But any more than the lightest touch often results in a disconcerting clunk and weird sensation that the car might not stop. Since the regen and the mechanical brakes both work in tandem only when the brake pedal is pressed, it feels like the car can't figure out the proportion of each one to apply right away. Similarly, when coming to a full stop, sometimes it's smooth, but often it's a hard jerk, leaving you wondering what you did to anger it. Audi has work to do on this system to make sure drivers can be confident that the car will actually stop. By contrast, the Jaguar's brakes are perfect.
Now the pricing. Both had MSRP around $85k. Both qualify for the $7500 federal tax credit. Audi is selling a sufficient amount of 2020 models but will still offer a few thousand dollars off. Jaguar has had trouble moving I-paces, likely because of a lack of advertising, so you can get a hefty $12-15k discount right now.
Overall, it comes down to what you're looking for in a sporty SUV: the Audi is comfier with better tech, good for families (if Audi figures out the brakes). The Jag is smaller but drives much better. Personally, I prefer the Jaguar.

The dealer has an unsold 2019 I-pace on the lot which they can't lease and really need to offload, so I'm buying that one. MSRP is $85,600 but im getting it for about $57k. That should take care of the first two years' worth of depreciation. And I really do like it a lot more than the Audi or Tesla Model Y.
I just hope I won't regret it in two months when I have the chance to test drive the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Dealerships here in the States are going to start getting them to use as loaner cars in late October / early November, but the pre-orders, like the Bronco, sold out in about 15 minutes.

I'm not one of those people, but i do understand who they are targeting. great review Jonny, agree with you, sporty looking well ok, it is tough to beat the interiors they are always well done for comfort/materials, the cost well I am here in Canada where the federal Gov't has done little to nothing to promote EV's or a coast to coast charging network, and for the dealers here to sell whatever brand of EV there is a heck of a waiting list and the dealers all mark up the price on them and just say well too bad, 2 friends went to buy EV's one a Tesla model 3 long range and the other a Kona EV with the i think it was 78 kilowatt battery pack , they both expected they'd have to pay the window sticker price and rudely surprised they'd have to add about 5k to the Tesla and 10k for the Kona EV , which made the Kona more than the Tesla we are just getting held for ransom on EV pricing here in Manitoba, it could just be the dealers here, I would just like to buy the Honda -E myself and don't need anymore than that , plus its just a cool car in its own right and is RWD , my preference and my round trip to work daily is only 80 kms, so this is fine, Honda Canada says they will go on sale in Canada in 2024, wow just over 3 years from now, by then they will have a longer range battery as standard for me again they forecast 10-12 %, the crazy part again it could start at $46000 CDN or 26000 sterling that is still a big lump to swallow, I use to work for Volvo Canada some almost 30 yrs back and have been offered some nice incentives on pricing on a Polestar 2, they are working to get them out in the market, mine would be RWD model don't need AWD, not necessary for me i know how to drive in winter, and the discount was quite attractive to me, and love Volvos been driving them 40 yrs now, best car,

Great review as ever but I do wonder why compare just EVs to each other? Yes, some people are just looking at buying an EV first and foremost but surely it’s now got to the point where people will be cross shopping between EVs and ICE cars. You might want an iPace or a Polestar 2 but need space for camping trips and kids’ bikes so suddenly that 600L boot on this Audi is all important and that’s why the E-trons and the Tesla X remain in a fairly unpopulated niche. Happily the VW ID4 and enyaq are going to fill out the market at relatively affordable levels soon.

I watched this straight after EVM's eVito review. The van comes out lighter and with better efficiency. That Audi sound proofing is seriously heavy stuff!

Another point for the Tesla is the supercharger network that you have left out but overall, very nice work

I think the normal e-tron with normal mirrors,s-line in that colour combo with the Pano roof is my sweet spot.

You didn't go back to the mirrors and never said why you disliked them?
I don't get why they shaped the screens like mirrors. Surely with cameras you can have a lens with a wider view and can show more if rectangular screens were used, covering the blind spot plus more than what you could probably cover with a physical mirror. So potential safety benefits. I can also imagine in the future these kind of camera mirrors being tricked out with safety overlays and night time image enhancements etc.

those cameras are super expensive and incredibly hard to use since they are in an awkward spot, thats probably why he doesn't like them, you don't see many etrons with this feature for a reason (i work at the audi belgium factory where the etron is made so i know what options get taken a lot and wich ones not)

The e-tron does feel very special in a way the Model X does not, and that feels worthwhile. I think that range won't be a problem as it's still quite high.

I don't think that's a strange mind: the polestar+honda seems like good sound consumer advice to me.

Hey Jonny nice to see you again. E-Tron Quattro and Sportback is too expensive. I wait to see you checking out the Q4 e-tron, ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, Nissan Ariya

Nobody pays list price for an Audi. You can get a brand new E-Tron for £53k on Autotrader. I'm not saying that's cheap, but it's £7k under list price.
I've got a 50 Technik on a lease, and it's a great car for my needs. I'm paying pretty much nothing for fuel, so it works out cheaper to run than my previous very sensible petrol Volvo estate.

if you think that thing is quiet try the mercedes eqc it is basically built for 0 sound with soudn proofing in the wheelwells and stuff they have it in the museum somewhere showing how much effort they have put into making it soundproof.

That car is hundreds of kilos heavier than my campervan. Which is 4-wheel drive, has front and rear difflocks, 165hp, a bed, cooker, heater.. Plus I don't feel physically ill looking at it due to the dreadful design.

Did Audi already fix the problem of water leaking into the cabin from the rear mirror when it rains as one owner had complained?
