We have a 2021 etron premium plus. It’s been great. We don’t take a lot of road trips but those we have taken have been fine. We are likely to downsize and get something with higher efficiency when our lease ends, but we like it so much, we might keep it.

Quality, Comfort and refinement - it’s one of the best cars out there. And I too would be concerned about future bills for any repairs just like any other older premium car. Not the battery but the integral AC chargers, mirror cameras have been known to have trouble.
But I disagree about road trips. Sure it cannot do a 250 mile trip without a stop - but nor can I ! It’s that charging curve that makes up for the range. I’ve done over 500miles in a day with just 3 stops and 88 mins plugged in. My longest drive has been 720 miles in a day.

I love my Audi e-tron. I got a great deal and I made sure that I got the warranty on both the powertrain and the technology. I followed the formula from CarEdge on how to negotiate and what happens when you go to the finance department. Thanks to you guys at SPC I looked at Audi. I do a 60 mile trip every day and tow a small box trailer with my tools in. The 200 mile range is fine and the speed that it charges is great. I can put 80% back in the battery within 30 minutes on a fast charger. I was surprised the other day when I was waiting to charge. I needed a particular charging space so I let a guy with a Ford Marquee go in front of me. He'd been sat there charging for a while before I got my spot. My battery was at 50%, I put another 45% back in and was done. I don't know how much he was charging but I left there before him. I did think the Audi Dealership who sold me the car could have explained better how to charge it properly. There are some amazing deals out there because inventory is not moving and you can find an Audi e-tron under $40,000 with less than 30,000 miles on it.

I Agree. I got mine in February in Florida with 21k miles on it for $47k (with prepaid maintenance to 55k miles) with 3.5%APR. It is an amazing car, even though range is not great. However, the comfort, quietness of ride and air suspension is second to none. We just did Nova Scotia Canada road trip and put 2700 miles on it and I feel like we travelled on 1st class airplane the whole time. No fatigue, no stress (except range anxiety; for those who plan NS road trip beware, it is bad with charging, really bad. 50kW chargers and very spotty). Advantage of short range however is ability to stretch and relax while car charges very very quickly on fast DC charging network.(in US). Most of the time we hardly had enough time to run to Wallmart before car was fully charged. I haul roof top box, roof top tent and bike rack on hitch. It affects range terribly, but any weekend getaway trips are just fine. So overall very happy with my choice, this car was on my radar for a very long time....

Great video. I got a 2019 e-tron Prestige a year ago with 10k miles on it. I previously had a 2020 Tesla Model Y LR, and then a Hyundai Ioniq 5 limited. This is far and away the nicest of those 3, and nicer to drive than a BMW iX M50 that I test drove. It’s so solid, luxurious, comfortable and quiet, that it is seriously a bargain 2nd hand. Range wise, if you use Efficiency mode, you can get significantly more than the advertised range. So far, on 2 road trips, I’ve gotten between 260 and 290 miles, which is better than I got with the 2020 Model Y LR on road trips (in town, the Model Y was way better). Great car. Just get the Prestige or Chronis. The Premium and Premium Plus are missing some very basic features (unless optioned separately), like adaptive cruise control.

It is interesting how there are 2023/2024 Lexus RZ450e models selling with nearly identical range and luxury specs to this etron (which incidentally is much more expensive) but gets that range with a battery that is nearly 20kWh smaller. Yet the media bashes the Lexus and dismisses the lower range of the Audi.
Used, they are going for similar money right now. I prefer the weight and brand reputation of of the Lexus, but my VAG-loving side prefers the Audi for the styling, the roof rails, the more squared-back hatch area, the opening panoramic roof with actual shade (I have this in my Atlas and LOVE it), and the tow package option.
With Audi extending warranty on its Etron models for the motors to 10y/120k miles in the US due to motor/coolant failure issues, I'm torn. They are insane deals, and you are covered by audi if your motors fail, but it presents itself with failure risks that may be a hassle depending on when the motors decide to kick the bucket (if at all). May just bite the bullet and get one of these.

Maybe mention it’s a two year service interval, so get that thing serviced right before buying.
Same goes for software licenses: look for one with either some coverage left, or at least have the dealer chip in a map update.
Tires strongly depend on driving habits: look for three-year old cars with original tires. If they look decent after that time, chances are you had a decent driving pre-owner that did not break the suspension. A good deal checks these boxes and is roughly at 60% of new prize after two years (20k miles).
Don’t buy if you can’t afford a luxury car.

We've owned one for over 3 years and I like the vehicle. We haven't really had any issues with the EV aspects of this car. I also disagree about the range....you can def get over 200 miles of range as advertised in a 2021 model, especially in mixed driving (they may be referring to the launch model range). The newer etron promises even more range at like 285, so you are getting more range (looks like battery size has increased marginally to 115 kwh). There are a couple of annoyances including the really loud proximity sensors (gets trying pulling in and out of garage) and the very strange door handles. When I want to get out of the car I don't want to pull on the door handle 3 times. I also find the hapatic touch of the infotainment frustrating. Why do I need to push in on a touchscreen? Makes no sense. Recently we seem to be having an issue with the Audi Presense system, maybe a failed sensor or recalibration needed. Mandatory dealer stop for that one.

I never had a problem with them and they have the same life expectancy as the known brands like Goodyear. Ans they have to because it's the law! You can't just make a inferior tire and sell that on the market. So in my opinion its all PR/marketing... Just like buying sneakers from Nike or Adidas. You can go for some unknown shoe brand aswell. Also, you can select tires based on alot of criteria but most important are 1: Feul economy 2: Grip and 3: Noise. These are labeled with A being the best score and I think G or F being the worst. (except noise, thats just a number in dB) I always bought A labled tires, just not from Pirelli or Goodyear. According to the lables, these can be even worse depending on which tire radius and specs you want.

Got my used 2019 eTron Prem+ (CPO) six months ago for $34k with 25k miles. I had a 2015 A6 30T before and loved that car..and this one is great as well. Audi folks just know how to deliver sporty luxury cars that drive great. So, based on the way I drive I get 2.2 miles per kwh (that equates to 2.2 x 95=209 miles at full charge). This is pretty much what I expected based on my research. Its my commuter car...I dont use it for our long driving trips not because of the low range, but because of the unreliable CCS charging stations. I do my charging at home (120v) which is slow, but works for me right now since I work from home mostly. On occasion, I go to the nearby Electrify Amer station. Every time I go there, only 1 or 2 chargers out of the 4 works. That is horrible. I think that if I could use Tesla's NACS chargers, I would have no problem taking my eTron on long drives...Btw, my insurance for the eTron is pretty much up to par with the other luxury cars that own...I dont think EV insurance is overly expensive.

I like the out-of-spec guide video reviews and especially the comparison that Alissa and Kyle did of the Q8 vs 2019 etrons; answered most my questions.
That said, I was expecting to learn something in this vid about the actual car in the title. Instead, this was a generic review of what it means to own any lux car that is at or over its warranty period. Would the advice given been different if reviewing a gas-powered 2019 Audi q4, for example? Sure, no discussion of battery range and charging times but almost all-else would be equal.
On that note, I've only recently gotten keen on buying an EV, specifically an etron and so I've been doing a tone of research. The assertion made in this vid that that there is no maintenance worry about blown head gaskets is true, but no one should think about EVs as not needing maintenance nor the occasional expensive repair, even in the motor and drivetrain.
Maintenance includes periodic fluid and filter changes (battery and motor coolant), maybe not as frequent as oil changes but still necessary. Second, there are LOTS of spinning parts in the motor(s) and transmission(s). Yes, for each motor, there is a transmission that converts the high RPM high-torque electric motor power to lower RPM but even higher torque tire power. The transmission(s) also includes a differential joint that allows tires connected to the drivetrain to spin and different rates whilst in turns. Inside the electric motor(s) itself, there are bearings that support the shaft, and these bearings are spinning at 1000s of rpms. Granted, order of magnitude fewer parts than the comparable gas/autotrans car but still....
Interesting convo but I was hoping to learn about the etron, specifically reliability of the motors and transmissions 🤣.

My 2021 Audi e-tron with 56,000 miles lost a lot of range suddenly November 2023. A 100% charge range of only 171 miles. An 80% charge range of 156 miles. This never went back up either. The temperature never went below 50° outside. I always charge at 80% unless I'm taking a trip And I do this every night at home. I rarely use a fast charger unless I'm taking a trip and need to get home. I spoke to Audi about this and they said the battery health was fine, battery degradation was normal and that there were no error codes so the battery was in good health. This is ridiculous to me. Not to mention that a $75,000 vehicle is now only worth $32,000 for trade in value. And now the e-tron has a battery recall due to a fire risk. Before the battery issues, the car was one of my favorites. And I was all on board the electric vehicle evolution. Not so much now.

I believe VW own Electrify America so Audi don't need any agreement with Tesla. I just drove a BMW i4 in California renting for 19 days. You don't need Tesla charging.

How these early EV batteries hold up long term is really pure speculation. What we know is that battery R&D is about to step up to warp speed. So anything "old" is going to look archaic a couple of tomorrows from today.

When the "solid" type batteries come out, they will be significantly more expensive. This means that the older type batteries will continue to be used for a while.

Thing is though the range is irrelevant. For me at least. I am not going to drive 200 miles around town and this is the only use case I would consider for an electric vehicle. Going out of town I would only ever consider a petrol car. Not least of which is this: ua-cam.com/video/BMRHuiDXCL0/v-deo.html
But also I don't wanna wait around always. Sometimes I just want to go. E.g. driving from Austin to New Orleans. I don't want to stop anywhere. Just want to drive straight through. Can't do that with an electric car. Driving an electric car in and around town makes a lot of sense though. But there, the range is irrelevant. I don't even drive 50 miles around town every day let along 200 so it's a non issue.

A friendly piece of advice guys: Your audio is so distorted that I couldnt understand what you were saying. I caught most words, but not all. So, only watched the first three minutes. Please use different audio for your next video! I traded in my Model Y on a used 2019 etron 4 months ago, and glad I did.

I’ve been watching quite a number of these types of reviews on the first generation Audi e-tron. Frankly, the one common refrain has been the downside of the older technology.
Firstly, it is a 2019 model!!! There’s been vast improvements from that time until now. Secondly, PLEASE stop comparing this vehicle to Tesla and Polestar!!!
I strongly believe that anyone that’s interested in an e-tron is likely not looking at a Model 3 or a Model Y or a Polestar 2 or 3!!!
Different cars in different categories completely!!!

EV batteries do fail at times and cost of replacement can be as much or more even than the vehicle market value resulting in insurance scrapping your car. Do your homework and find out what will happen if either your future EV is involved in a collision or when it will be 8-10 years old. Car companies are not ready to replace batteries and replacement costs are outrageous. Lease a new one if you can offer it and have the disposable income for it; don't buy a use one unless it is crazy depreciated and you have the financial means to pay as much as the price you bought it for repairs.
