      the price of higher priced sleds is completely irrelevant to being budget conscious. if someone were truly budget conscious they'd be paying far less on used sled or realize that this is not a wise budget decision to begin with especially if financing. fact is, 90% of folks can't really "afford" 14k on a seasonal toy, they certainly can get by but at great long term cost and short term sacrifice.

      @@spons1982 Nobody needs a 16,000 dollars snowmobile, but plenty of people can afford them. If one is worried about their budget they should stay as far away from snowmobiling as they can. If you buy a cheap sled it will likely burn more gas, burn more oil and break more often, negating much of your savings. If you buy a new one, whether its 9k or 16k you have a depreciating asset that is only useful 3 months a year. The value of a snowmobile, regardless of the price, basically comes down to A) how much you ride it and B) how much joy it brings you. The Switchback XC will likely bring you just as much joy as a Switchback Assault, at 15% less the cost. If you look at it that way, it is indeed a good deal.

    Great Video, Luke, related to Crossovers, I recently discovered that Ski Doo has the Rapid Ski Stance Change Option , which I think is just PERFECT for Crossover segment , consider the definition of a Crossover sled, do you know if there is a third Party/aftermarket fix for this for Both Artic Cat and Polaris?

    Is the 650 version more reliable than 850? Snowmobile industry is the only one where nobody in the media mentions reliability. My buddies with 850 Polaris sleds it’s a crap shoot if they can ride because their engines are out about half the time, crazy in modern times.

    After riding a Skidoo 850 Backcountry for the last 3 seasons and now spending around 600 km on my new 22 switchback 850 XC 146 I can easily say as a true 50/50 sled the Polaris has it figured out. If you disagree you haven’t ridden a new Polaris. The only place the skidoo wins is in fuel economy. 😀

    • @duckdestroyer2412

      I would say off trail the skidoo would beat the polaris though. The narrower ski stance really helps the ride quality in deep snow.

    Does your definition of a crossover sled include side hilling? If so, then I sure struggle with the 42.5" ski stance. In my opinion if you buy a switchback with the intention of learning to sidehill you might be frustrated. 7 of us just got back from the UP (half Polaris and half Doo). We all feel that if you learn the technique of side hilling on a narrower stance first, you can do it with a 42.5" stance. Trying to learn at that width proved very frustrating for the folks in my group.

    • @joeyleagjeld
      @joeyleagjeld 3 роки тому +1

      My buddy has a 15 assult with 42.5", and I have a 13 rmk 144 with grippers and 39". You are completely correct. Only diffrence between our sleds are engine size and skis and stance. I can carve and sidehill neutral and wrong foot forward no issue on my sled. Even on hardpack. When I get on his assult, I can barley do it......its a struggle. So yes. Your very right. I wish they would offer the assult in a 39" stance as well. I have a buddy that just got an assult with 42.5" and gripper skis, so I will have to see if the wider stance with grippers helps at all.

    • @duckdestroyer2412
      @duckdestroyer2412 3 роки тому +1

      I own a backcountry, and I would say the narrower ski stance is definitely what really taught me how to side hill and boondock, but it is noticeable on the trails, and that could be because of skidoos lighter feeling front end.

    • @keenanstahl
      @keenanstahl 3 роки тому

      @@duckdestroyer2412 I have a 2020 BCXRS. I found it was much more manageable on the trail once I reduced the front spring preload. Try to get those A-arms closer to horizontal with rider weight on the sled and you might be pleasantly surprised. I can’t speak for other models but the XRS (xtreme racer special) has an aggressive spring package and stock setup. My definition of a crossover sled does include sidehilling. Polaris and Snowtrax don’t seem to share this opinion but I think it’s an important consideration when making your decision. Sidehilling is doable with a 42.5” stance with a good rider and the ideal conditions. Do people buying crossovers have ideal sidehilling conditions? If they do they probably own a mountain sled.

    I cannot for the life of me figure out all these xc, xp, sks, assault crap with polaris. I will say I think the 650 engine running on 87 fuel is a good idea. You guys need to start testing these sleds on the steep and deep and show what they are and are not capable of or compared to a true mountain sled.

    Junk all the technology in snowmobiles today came from arctic cat technology... .if it's not a cat it's just cat food. Polaris is profiting off of arctic cat technology and the mustard buckets ski doo. Arctic cat all the way.....

    • @duckdestroyer2412
      @duckdestroyer2412 3 роки тому +3

      Buddy I wouldn't talk like some hot shot, arctic cat has stolen more technology from skidoo and polaris than any other company. Think of semi direct injection, electronic reverse, and rider forward chassis? The only thing arctic crap has brought to the market is fancy shocks in the 90's, and the collaboration with Yamaha after they went bankrupt. They cannot even make their own motors anymore.
