    I bought my 2001 5.9 Crew Sport 2 years ago with 144,000 on it. It ran rough at first but I filled it up and put 2 cans of seafoam in it and drove it around. Changed Oil, Air Filter, Plugs and all the bulbs. It now has 156,000 miles on it and for the most part it is fairly rust free as of now in North Dakota. Had to change the Water pump and some pullies at 150k and it now has 165/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs on it and I love it for winter, I work overnights so I know I can always count on my truck to get me and my coworkers to work.

    Don't ever rubber coat or zeibart. That just traps moisture up against the metal. Better off hitting it with WD40 occasional or other oil based weathering sprays.

    I always thought my grandpops was a ford guy until i just told him i got a 97 standard cab short bed laramie. It has 250k on her and he said so what! Says back in his days, if you wanted a real work truck, you bought a Ram. My first pickup ever and i love this thing!

    And stay under 2000 rpm when taking off my wife started doing that in her Escalade and it’s made a big difference in her mpg

    I daily drive a 2nd gen too (98 quad cab sport 2wd 318) absolutely love it dispite it's issues from time to time. Thankfully I live down south so rust isn't an issue typically. Also by some miracle mine has a good dash.

    Didn't realize other people had that issue getting into the next gear.

    I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500. 5.9 360. It's insane how flawless my interior is. I wish I could put pictures on here. It's got low miles and drives like it's brand new. Love my truck.

    God dude. I am thankful my '01 1500 isn't rusted out. bought it for 1500 bucks and it's gotta be my favorite vehicle i have owned yet. I loved my MK3 VW jetta but nothing compares to a big clumsy puppy that is my 5.9 ram. The second V8 i have owned in my 20yrs of driving. The steering sucks and it wanders and it may have a misfire I can't seem to get rid of but I am going to replace all the upper gaskets on the block this spring. At first I didn't have much planned for the truck an was going to flip it after fixing it up but after driving it these last two weeks, I have fallen in love with it and want to do nothing but make it purdy again. just ordered new headlight stuff and have a bunch of coolant and other stuff ready to go. I will be sad when I have to drive my 2017 jetta to work till she's fixed :(
    I love getting super sideways in that truck and crabwalking up the hill on some snow. I really can't wait to do more with that truck

    Have a 1998 RAM 1500 QuadCab 5.9L MAGNUM v8 here...what a truck! Always wanted to be steward of "The New RAM" when they came out in late 1993 when I was 20 y.o. BTW, having 3.54 gears is better for fuel mileage as these things need all the help they can get. Better MPG= best to use stock size 245/75R16 tires on these older v8 rigs and a lighter foot in addition to copious use of the cruise control on the freeway.

    46RE and that minor hesitation can be greatly improved by putting in a lower stall converter. I believe most came factory with a 2200 stall and a lot of people are changing them out for 1800 stall to get better response and quicker shifts.

    Got a 1999 1500 out in Colorado. Got to take care of her and keep up with maintenance more than other trucks but when you really need it the thing never lets me down. I can drive it after storms when only the snowplows are out. Amazing 4x4 system if you keep up with it

    The heat issue could be a hater core but the blend door on the bottom (cold and hot mix) actuator has a plastic coupler that can break. Or maybe the electric motor or isn’t cycling all the way?
    The quad door issues, the cables inside the door break and won’t pull the lock like they should.
    I know it’s money but I hope you’re able to save this girl one day. I’ll even bring you rust free parts from Florida 😂

    I have a 98 1500 4x4 with a 318. I have a lot of the same problems, my right side rear door won't open, the spring fell out of my drivers door so it flings open too, the dash has a couple of cracks but I've seen worse. I live in Michigan so its rusty AF but I love it!!!!

    The only thing I hated before I got the new intake was every 40 to 50,000 miles replacing the plenum gasket now that sucks cuz you have a chance that one or two bolts might break and you always have to buy a new intake bolts

    It’s just the way you drive I’ve had 7 of those same trucks and I averaged around 18 mph I now have an 02 ram 2500 4x4 Cummins sport and I’m getting around 23 mph on the hwy also if you drain some oil out and replace it with transmission fluid drive it about 100 miles then do an oil change it will clean the inside of the motor and that will help with the mileage I also put it in my gas about 2 oz every third fill up and I usually run 40-45 psi in my tires that makes a huge difference I can drive my Cummins from Houston to Fort Worth on a 1/4 tank of diesel

    Don't break anything ,take the 2 screws out of the hing that you open the door with and take some needle nose and open your door you will see where the cable is open at and not staying tight enough to open when you pull on the latch. Check it out you can do it!

    I had 2000 5.9 had really hard time getting warm in it and now I get a 1997 5.9 and damn does she get hot it’s crazy and the 2000 had less rust then the 1997 but the 2000 was an extended cab with the back door one side and and the 1997 is an extended cab to, but with no back doors just a solid cab

    I own a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2. These trucks are made cheap. They weren't made to last. Dependable truck before it gets to 195,000 miles. Then, it's the transmission issues and random stalling in rush hour traffic... which is embarrassing. It's the fix or repair daily truck then.

    • @truckshaw
      @truckshaw  2 роки тому

      Yes, when temperatures below 30-27 degrees it takes a good 1-2 hours before you really feel it. I use to do snow removal so once it’s running it’s staying running until the jobs are done. By the end of the shift it’s really toasty in there.

    How does it drive daily with the 4.10s in it ?

    • @truckshaw
      @truckshaw  2 роки тому

      4.10 definitely gives it more get up power, great for towing. At highway speeds around 70-75MPH the RPM is around 3k to 3500. Not the greatest if you care about gas mileage lol currently I get 10.7 MPG.

  • @Joedoriamusic
    @Joedoriamusic Рік тому

    Um, you have some problems for sure here but even at their very best I would not want these as a daily (although if work requires it that's a different usage).
    I have the 3500 Ram Wagon Van extended 5.9L and it's job is to take a crew of humans and their gear up and down the highways. It's loaded with weight and I see 12-13mpg city, 15-16 HWY.
    Make sure your tire pressures are right (max pressures for heavy loads), the ignition and cooling system is tip top, O2 sensor replaced at regular.Intervals, Atf +4 and filter only for the trans, keep the IAC, throttle body, and injectors clean, and I choose 5w-30 full synth oil always every 5000mi. The mpg is bad enough with these things new ya kind of have to keep on top of it with these. Adding CAI isn't gonna do it with these guzzlers but the above will make mpg differences.
    These beasts are workhorses but everythings gotta be tip-top to get the best mpg.

    If you ever do dash work on a second gen ram you better be prepared for that dash to fall apart and crack on you so if you do work remember you're going to have to replace some of the components to the dash as a former Dodge dealership technician it's just one of the things we have to do and I know a bunch of places where you can get all kinds of s*** for second ram dodgers 318 to 360 Magnum motors some of these places will even sell 318 and 360 la parts as well if anyone would like to know these just hit me up and I will give you the website
