It was a lil cheesy to use the same graphics effect from Superman 2 but they do build upon this next time we see the portal. They should have discussed the Phantom Zone as it is a major part of the mythology.

My favorite part of this episode is that Chloe assumes Clark is a Meteor Freak but then finds out he’s actually an alien. And not just an alien, but he’s from the planet that caused Meteor Freaks to be a thing.
Tom is in the office, that's nice! Chloe and Clark's conversation in the hospital is hands down one of the best scenes in entire series, and in my personal top 10. This was an amazing start of S5, goodbye to superboy, and beginning of Metropolis/ Superman story. No more freak's of the week (ok, there are, a few😊). Debut of Fortress of solitude, Erica Durance is regular cast member! Finally!
Surprised Bryan's scenes wasn't Chloe in the hospital telling Clark "Just Go Save at Smallville" and he just takes off and she's grabbing her paper cup swooshing to fall and Allison does the impressed sly grin abt Clark. This will be a couple of FOR THIS SHOW's lore Clark/Chloe BFF connection where she becomes his jimny cricket fan more than Pete could be just getting him to GO (save) or call for him THAT IN CHAOS CLARK ALWAYS CAN HEAR CHLOE CRYING OUT FOR HIM!
@@stellaharris4826Yes, great scene, it reminds us how loyal Chloe is to Clark. That's not ( really) possible in real life, but it's nice to see that, even though it's just a tv show.
Also, I met James Marsters years ago at a convention. He is such an engaging guy with all his fans. He told us about how he had an idea for a Supergirl comic where Kara was the one who landed on earth instead of Kal El. She was found and adopted by an alcoholic father rather than by the Kents. He wanted to explore what her life as a hero would be like after being brought up in that environment.
Me too many years ago, I'm not surprised. He seemed pretty cool and charming. 😊 He was chit chatting with me about video games because I had a video game shirt (fallout boy) loved it
The Elsa bit with Tom singing, Ryan poking fun at everyone's hair blowing in the new sultry intros except for Michael's, and the old school graphics put in with the "cutting-edge" phantom zone clip were hilarious. My favorite moments from this podcast episode.
Lex would have absolutely betray Clark after learning his secret after a while. 150TH episode deals with an alternative reality were Lex knew Kara's secret and she was basically his on-call weapon.

Season 5 is my favorite season! The characters grow and the conflicts become more interesting. Not to mention James Marsters as Brainiac was a stroke of genius. Easily my favorite Smallville villain
My favorite scene was actually when Chloe told Clark she knew his secret because the acting between both of them was so good. I especially like how Tom explained how he liked watching the scene play out because he waited for Allison to give her lines. There was no big budget CGI or explosions but two actors giving a great performance. Also, fun fact, Alana De La Garza was an Assistant DA in Law & Order.
I also wanted to add that where Pete freaked out and held it against Clark for keeping his secret, Chloe was all in 100%, took credit for "loose lips sinks ships, and promising not to out Clark.

A new journey has just begun. Actually rewatched this one last night in preparation and it brought back a few things. Lot of new lore already in this opener: Clark gaining the Fortress of Solitude, the Kryptonian Disciples of Zod Atheyr and Nam-Ek who are Smallville's version of Ursa and Non. Also Brainiac making his appearance at the very end played by amazing James Marsters. So glad to be back with Talkville on Wednesdays.😀🙏🙏🙏
One of my favorite scenes in Smallville is when Lex as General Zod yelling "NOOoohhh" as he charges towards Clark, going through the stained glass window.
Am I the only one that thought of the line from Batman Begins when he says, "swear to me," as everyone kept saying "swear to God" regarding who farted lol.
This episode has one of my favorite scenes. Clark looking at an empty crash site, Lex's little Lab with the Kryptonian ship, James Marsters, and topped off with Depeche Mode! Yes.
I don't remember the music choices in the show, but for some reason it still has stuck in my mind that when Brainiac makes his appearance at the end, it's to Depeche Modes's "Precious". I consider it one of their best songs. That was the first time I heard it though, and I haven't watched the show in years. Ok, so for the guy that has a Superman movie poster across from him, no one knows that rectangular thing that imprisoned the bad guys is the Phantom Zone as represented in Superman 1 & 2.

Tom's only memory from filming this episode being the scene where Clark picked up Lana at the the Luthor mansion is funny and cute. I always loved whenever Clark would carry Lana in his arms. But Tom picked up Kristin several times on the show before season 5 so it's funny that the crew weren't sure if he could do it this time 😂

🌹🌹🌹 Brilliant opener to what is my favourite season. Sets up the whole premise of season 5 as the show kicks into gear by bringing new super heroes/villains. But what I love about this episode is again the rift between Lex and Clark. Even though it's not mentioned in that great scene with Chloe (when all is revealed), you sense she did tell Clark about Lex intimidating her to learn his secret in the previous episode. This helps explain the animosity Clark showed to Lex as he walked in on Lex in the destroyed Kent house. When Lex confronts Clark's lies, you just knew this would finally push Lex over the edge, the pain was etched on his face as he walked away, calling time on their friendship. And things take a drastic turn in the next episode "Mortal" which is surely one of my favourites. Shoutout to the Depeche Mode song at the end 👌
I was at the live show, second night. As much fun at it was to see all of you, it was just as much fun to meet all the other talkville fans. I was by myself. So getting to meet people and bond over Smallville was a real treat.
I always thought the reason Lex gaslit Lana was because he wants to keep the knowledge of aliens existing to himself so he tells her she's hallucinating to try and get her off the trail while he can investigate it further on his own. He likes to do things on his own. It's only later that he lets her in on it and she is of course mad at him for gaslighting her after telling her the truth.
@@dynaguy3 100% correct. I'm shocked people still pay for this content. Both Tom and Michael have very little recollection of the show, (not enough to host a podcast anyway), and the snarky way they answer some fan questions is of putting. This is just a money grab for them.
I think Tom tried to talk a little more about the scene, but Michael always cuts in and makes jokes about everything. The most exciting and important moments end up going unnoticed. It's disappointing to watch.
This is probably the best season openings out of the series and I loved the change in the opening credits. If you noticed, everyone's hair is blowing so they should have had Michael's tie or coat jacket blowing around as well. I really liked Chloe's way of letting Clark know that it wasn't her place to tell him she knew his secret but he would let her know on his terms. Even though the hints were there from the previous season, she maintained his secret. She really proved to be his best friend and I felt that the writers made sure that her knowing his secret wasn't really forced but it was needed to have someone outside of his family know. I liked the ship story arc because we are now introduced to BrainIAC and we see a big 180 in Lionel. It seems to be Lionel's almost redeem tour. This is definitely 3 roses for me.
😂😂😂 Tom and Rosey are like my movie critic angel and devil. When I like something, I'm like Tom, "don't you see the deeper meaning? The long term value?" And when I don't it's exactly like Rosey, "I don't watch that shit!" Hahaha neither do I! Let it go? I never grabbed on! 😂😂😂
I love this episode, seeing the fortress being constructed was pretty cool! But my favorite part was the kiss between Clark and Lana at the end, also the music at the end was a perfect fit for the episode.
Same!! That Clark and Lana scene with Precious by Depeche Mode playing was SO good! The lyrics of the song fits the scene perfectly and Tom & Kristin showed Clark & Lana's feelings and vulnerability so well 😍
If they hated ‘Ageless’, I can’t wait until they get to ‘Thirst’. Ever since the podcast started I’ve been waiting for them to reach season 5, so we can all relive that catastrophe together 😂
Honestly, 'Ageless' wasn't that bad. 'Thirst'(slutty sorority vampires right?) was awful but watchable-ish. It was one of those meteor freak episodes that just didn't hit like some of the others did. While I liked seeing Brooke Nevin on the show, they could have given her a better role with better writing.
Arrival is a fantastic season premiere. The turning point of the series. I segregate the show into separate eras. S1-4 the high school era. S5-7 the college/transitional era and 8-10 Metropolis. S5 is where the show moves on from the freaks of the week (for the most part), Clark and Chloe's friendship becoming stronger due to Clark finally knowing Chloe knows his secret, and Clark and Lex drifting more and more from friends to enemies. Not to mention the biggest and most important episode up to this point with the 100th. I feel like the scene with Clark talking to Jor-El in the fortress for the first time was glazed over a bit. Jor El lets Clark take Chloe out of there, but makes him promise to return to continue his training, and has only until sun down to return or he suffers the consequences. Because Clark was helping Lana after sending the two Kryptonians to the Phantom Zone, he runs out of time, and his powers is taken away by Jor-El and that's why he is able to bleed. He only disobeys Jor El because of how much he cares for the humans in his life. The scenes with Chloe were also my favourites. It's nice that Tom liked his performance at the hospital scene with Chloe. That is one of my favourite scenes of the episode. Depeche Mode's song Precious was the perfect song choice. I've said it before, but the music choice for every episode was just spot on and actually Smallville introduced me to a lot of artists I probably wouldn't have listened to before.
Firstly, welcome back TalkVille! Arrival as a standalone season premiere is awesome. It deals with the follow up of the meteor shower very well, it introduces the Fortress of Solitude, it establishes Chloe as Clark's closest confidant (Chlark is the strongest relationship of the show in S5), it shapes Clark and Lex's relationship as unfixable, it teases Zod's arrival and it ends with Brainiac's debut. Sadly, this is also the episode where Clark's characterization begins to go downhill: He gets called out repeatedly for his lies with no answer, he starts a relationship with Lana based on a lie and he accepts Jor-El's ultimatum and punishment without caring about the ramifications (which will be very costly for him 11 episodes later). In general, Seasons 5-7 Clark is the worst Clark of the series and Tom is given very little to work with.
@@chasingstars4 In season 5 it's not even about being stagnant. Clark just causes too much damage to his own life this season. Even as an 18-year old, Superman shouldn't be the one who indirectly causes his father's death and who sends Lana to Lex's arms with his lies.
It’s one of the reasons I LOVED Oliver’s introduction. He came in and quipped on how Clark just mopes around his barn instead of using his powers to save people. Clark really suffered from having nothing to do in life from season 5-7
I disagree.. The show needed a little drama, Clark needed the experience of having his own flaws, realising even Superman can make mistakes who can make the odd emotional decision, showing more of a human side which is whole essence of the show and this is what makes it interesting. If we had Clark who was simply infallible, just the saving the day all the time, that for me would get tedious.

The reason the Kryptonian always ended up on Earth have not been explained outright but I have my own theory regarding that subject. The kryptonians can technically live on any planet within a universe that has a yellow sun but because of Earth's gravity is so weak they're able to use their full capabilities. If they lived on another planet it would be similar dragon Ball weighted clothes situation. Where they would still have the same ability but unable to use their capabilities to there maximum output. Also it's probably easier to grow food on Earth than other planets.
Also, another piece of Superman lore appears in this episode. When Clark is confronting the Disciples of Zod, the Phantom Zone portal appears as they attempt to trap him there. Also, loe tells Clark she knows he runs "faster than a speeding bullet". A phtase famously associated with Superman.😀🙏
I am so excited that y’all are back. I am glad that y’all got Tom live in the studio. The Fortress of Solitude set is so beautiful. John Glover did a great job playing crazy. So many great performances by everyone. One of the scenes that stood out was when Lex finds Clark in the Kent farm and Lex tells Clark if you’re my friend you will tell me the truth. I loved the Superman reference when Chole says that he runs faster than a speeding bullet. One thing I did notice was one scene Erica had a voice and next scene she didn’t. I think that they were misplaced. Loved Brianic appearance. Y’all rock. We need the friend line on a shirt. Y’all rock!
Always such a joyful atmosphere on TalkVille and Tom is here, that ’s good 😅❤!! Deligh to see you again for the first episode of season 5, which is moving with à lot of changes ❤❤!! TALKVILLE 💙❤💖👌
Someone probably pointed this out weeks ago, but I’m chiming in just in case they didn’t: death count says 10 but the news report mentions 23 dead in Smallville, which means we’re at least 13 deaths shy of the grand total for season 5 I’m almost caught up, love the podcast guys!
Best scene was Chloe and Clark in hospital. This should be obvious. The main theme of the whole Superman myth is him hiding his true identity. In that scene, his identity was exposed extremely well. (But it was cut too short - Chloe should have been asking questions in the next 3 episodes.)
Overall, the episode was fantastic! However, they did rush the whole storyline with the evil kryptonian, I think you could’ve stretched that out over a number of episodes and had a lot of fun with the idea. I do love the fact they were trapped in the phantom zone just like the motion pictures.
Looking back at Season 5, it feels like the biggest the show ever was in terms of Clark, Lex, and Superman iconography. It’s a great season and hope you guys enjoy it!
Lex gaslighted Lana because he wanted the ship for himself and he could just say what she saw was due to shock and hysteria and blow it off. So when the ship vanishes he has plausible deniability. 😮
The final of Season 4 is my favorite Smallville ep of all time and Season 5 is my favorite season. The reason season 4's final ep is my favorite is because its the turning point of the series, prior to this, Clark didn't want these powers or abilities or to have a "destiny", he just wanted to be normal teen and make his own choices in life (grow up on the farm and marry Lana). That ep is the first time he really makes that "sacrifices" his personal wants and begins to embrace his greater purpose. Season 5 is just great all around but it really begins to show the ramifications that Clark must face by making that selfless choice, ie, he'll need to lose Jonathan Kent to become the Man of Tomorrow. Lex is great this season too, great character development for both actors!
Tom has such energy when he's in the same room with the other guys. I wish we could have him live for every review. That collective energy has been lacking as the seasons have gone on.
Jor-El's constantly shifting behavior was never explained in the entire 10 year run of the series. His motivations were what the current episode need them to be.
If you all want to know a little bit about Sam Loeb. Shortly after he passed DC published a short story set in Smallville where he and Clark were friends. Sam himself wrote the story. The story is about how Clark can't save his friends from death. If my memory is correct the story is in Superman and Batman issue 26.
Clark and Chloe’s talk in the hospital is one of the best scenes in the SERIES. How did it get snubbed from being an option for Ryan’s favorite scene??
To Tom's point about breathing funky stuff from the environment, I'm a cake decorator so when I airbrush a cake, I'm used to seeing blue or green or purple on the tissue when I blow my nose lol.
I DO NOT think Lex should have been told about Clark. It is evident from other episodes to come that Lex always had a dark side and would eventually exploit Clark's powers. Clark's Kryptonian instincts were correct in being discreet in who should be told. Lois is THE ONLY person he freely told his secret to. He told Lana out of fear of losing her, again the same with Pete. Even Chloe showed a dark side in future episodes, and Clark never told her his secret. She found out through Alicia. Remember, they all at one time had suspicions about Clark, so why would Lex turn to the dark side because of it when no one else did?
*Can't wait for the adventure of Season 5 we are going to embark on. Love the NEW INTRO!! I'm looking forward to some episodes, "Aqua," "Cyborg," "Fanatic," etc.*

@@kurtboneschans560 I was surprised to see they had a sold out live show for this. But Michael seems to be a showman so maybe people like that.
@@dynaguy3 If the live shows were like this podcast, I'd want my money back.
I think Tom tried to talk a little more about the scene, but Michael always cuts in and makes jokes about everything. The most exciting and important moments end up going unnoticed. It's disappointing to watch.
Antarctica is the South Pole. Arctic is the North Pole. Yukon is south of there. OH, AND I FARTED!!!! 😬💨💩🙊💀
With the light emitting from the drawing of Tom and Michael on the wall, it looks like both of them are science officers for Star Trek.
The scene between Chloe and Clark in the hospital.. The end of the episode with the Depeche Mode song.. My God, love these scenes!!!!
Hello from the Italian guy who wasn't able to control himself!! I am usually more put together I swear!! What an epic night it was!!! So much fun
Whoever smelt it, dealt it.
Thirst is a better and more fun episode than Ageless.
Like Jor-El said one journey has ended and a new one is about to begin
@@KingKidGoku32794 Indeed!
Welcome back S5! 🥳 woo hoo 💖
The very first bit out of the gate is an Abbott and Costello type of routine: "Who Farted First?" 😂 Love you guys! Like a bunch of frat boys today.
Oh my goodness Tom is here here!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉the best season is here
Micheal, Lex still doesnt see Clark as an Alien because he seen Clark hurt and bleeding. You have to remember Lex's point of view.
I actually like Clark's arc this season but agree that season 6-7 Clark is very stagnant

Yes! You guys are back! Since you guys started this podcast, now it's like a void on Wednesdays when you take a break.
did no one else notice the sign of the hospitol being edited to say KENT medical before Micheal makes the joke?
Y’all rock!
I have always wondered how Lex found Chloe. Even having her blackberry wouldn’t do anything. Like who did he bribe to find out where she was
Not just that, but why does clark seem to just forget shes on the other side of the world 😂
@@CAJones1138 Yeah he had no idea Lex brought her back to Smallville lol
Mr Tom Welling in studio finally 😮😮
The hospital scene with Chloe is one of my favorite scenes from the series. Probably top 10. My favorite scene you have yet to get to.
Always such a joyful atmosphere on TalkVille and Tom is here, that ’s good 😅❤!! Deligh to see you again for the first episode of season 5, which is moving with à lot of changes ❤❤!! TALKVILLE 💙❤💖👌
BOYS! Love the editing this episode! Having Tom there really brings a nice energy to the podcast!
Someone probably pointed this out weeks ago, but I’m chiming in just in case they didn’t: death count says 10 but the news report mentions 23 dead in Smallville, which means we’re at least 13 deaths shy of the grand total for season 5
I’m almost caught up, love the podcast guys!
I love Season 5 of Smallville.
I know it’s only been a few weeks, but it feels like I’ve been waiting for years. Glad you guys are back.
If you don't know about the phantom zone portals you don't deserve that Superman poster on your wall 😆!
This introduced me to Depeche Mode
Welcome back TalkVille!!!! Season 5 🎆 Also opening Filmed after TalkVille Live LA back in May I can't Thank You Guy's Enough it was a Honor ❤️💙🌹🌹🌹🤘
Tom in the building! Love it when the trio in studio.
I like it better when Tom is there. There's a better flow in the conversation.
I always get so excited for Talkville and expect so much from these episodes then get really let down every single time 😂😭
Same! I really want to enjoy Talkville because I love Smallville, Tom & Michael but everytime I tune in the podcast is a disappointment. 😩
The editing this season is ON POINT 😂 good one bryce
Tom: am I at the part of my life where I don't know if I farted or not? 😅😅
