This is why I love Philodendrons! They’re always searching for something else. Like me. 😂 Only a few minutes in but thank you for sharing your journey with this plant! Your thoughts and experiences have shaped my plant collection. 🙏
Okay, last comment. Jan. I work nights in a really stressful environment. Not to make it about me, but, you’ve really been an important part of my mental health… regime. 😂 Thank you.
Yours is so pretty!! I'm so happy I found you many years ago and my splendid is starting to gain in size - nothing like yours but for Dutch conditions I'm very happy! Thank you for sharing your content and Brad and your lovely self with us! ❤
This makes so much sense to have the same type of moss poles. I recently added a plastic to wire mesh moss pole, and the downside is that it doesn’t give it a long enough extension. So good to watch what you’re going step by step, thanks!
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS 😍 I appreciate your videos so much. Even though I can't grow these myself, I learn from each video and am taken away by your majestic green specimens. ❤
Thx for your knowledge I just scored a “Splendid” bargain on the Death Row Rack at Bunnings $70 marked down to $20 🥰 I’ve go so many leaders in this one pot I don’t know where to begin? 😅
Splendid, for me, was tough to get started. The leaves would come out bad, so I had to keep cutting. Then, the roots are thinner than other aroids, so there was difficulty keeping them viable during propagation. It's not really difficult, but does need that effort and attention to look its best as you always suggest.
I really really want to see a video with you and Tim trying to create a hybrid together with both of your plants. Need maternity announcement pics too with a mock registry including GT lol
Doing my 1st time chop an extend soon with the same plant, so this was very helpful. I'm not gonna lie I'm terrified, this thing has been my baby and I'm so afraid somethings gonna go wrong. It's not nearly as big as yours and it's in semi-hydro so I'm worried the root system isn't quite there, but I'm running out of room so it needs to be done! Wish I found this method sooner so I could prepare a lil bit, but better late than never!
So gorgeous. I love the look of a moss pole, however, I found it to be very messy. My philodendron never rooted into the pole and while trying to keep the pole moist I felt like I was over watering the plant. How do you keep the pole moist without over watering the pot the plant is in? Maybe I will try again, your plant collection is mesmerizing.❤️I’m having wonderful results using pon and semi hydro with my alocasias, anthuriums and now my philodendron el choco red. My el choco is definitely needing something to climb…
I had a single node cutting of the Splendid in April 2023 and it grew up the pole (1.8m tall) by June 2024. So I can confirm how much of a fast grower it is. Just chopped and extended last weekend. Looking forward to it being top heavy 😂 - then I know I'm doing this right.
I've watched some other chop and extends from you. I've utilized a lot of moss poles in my collection but when I go to chop the sections don't separate due to the roots growing down the pole. Idk if you've talked about how you deal with or prevent this but I'm curious to know what you do when the roots have grown down. I've tried just cutting them but it's always shocked or otherwise slowly killed the plant🥲. Love your plants and your vibes 💙💚
oh my... how tall is she/he?!!! each leaf is the same size as your torso!!! gorgeous! (I saw photos of its flowers, look stunning too!) "Stay! stay" lol Question - after you chop it, does it split into two branches or always single branch? though I love this plant, after seeing yours... I don't think I have enough space for its full potential... so it stays on my "future big house plant list" & dream of growing it 360 XD
The plant is approx 2m tall :) the bottom part will most likely re-shoot in 1 or two spots post the chop. The top will keep growing from the exicting growth point
Have you tried growing fully without soil on the bottom for the chops rather than sticking the base into a new substrate? Is it just for weight or do you think it does actually provide growth benefit as well? Just curious if bottom soil is necessary or if you could just do with a moss pole!
Have grown without a pole, definitely possible but much easier if you can hang your plants. The pot provides some stability and of course more room for roots :)
Hey SNP, although you're not interested on making philodendron hybrids, we, the audience, may be! It's really hard to find material on philo breeding, differently from anthuriums, so get Tim on the channel for us please!
Hello Jan! Once you’d performed the chop and extend, how important is it to have the bottom part of the plant develop roots into the pot? You’d said and also shown the plant can live just off the moss pole, but do you pay special attention to make sure the moss pole remains moist at all times after the chop and extend?
@@sydneyplantguy thanks! So putting it into a pot w medium is basically just to provide a structural base for the newly chopped plant, and whether the roots develops inside that pot is secondary to the roots in the moss pole?
Hello, I admire your beautiful plants and I dream that mine will grow as big one day. I will replace the stakes with supports made according to your advice, but I have a problem... How thick should the wire be? 0.6mm, 0.8mm (mesh 12mm) ? Best regards from the capital of Poland (Warsaw)
😳 I have I think 6 cuttings on my Glorious moss pole. She is already quite crowded and the leaves are only about 8 inches.. She’s growing SO FAST! I don’t know what to do now that she’s rooted and probably overcrowded, but WOW is she lush. Like what pole? I can’t see it through all her thiccc foliage 💅🌿💁♀️
My Verrucosum has 5 plants on the pole, I believe, and she looks quite good with that many, but I’m sure I’ll have the same overcrowding issue when the leaves get over 10” or so… Meanwhile my Melano who is older than all of them has 3 cuttings and relatively small leaves. She is so difficult to size up. I’ve increased humidity the past month or so and think that will help. Thanks for reading, whoever you are
Wow, I love this concept! I’m always afraid the plant will root in the moss pole. I don’t have any experience with the Splendid! Now I want to try this! How often do you water or spray your moss pole to keep it this beautiful?
Hybrid vigor only works on the first generation. The genes in the hybrid aren't the "best" of both species. Gene luck still applies. Recessive mutation genes in the parent species are not seen (phenotype) in the first generation hybrid.

Just to let you know, ALL of my plants on moss pole are looking amazing. Can't thank you enough for sharing your method with us. 🤗🌿🥰
That’s awesome !!:) happy growing !
Okay, last comment. Jan. I work nights in a really stressful environment. Not to make it about me, but, you’ve really been an important part of my mental health… regime. 😂 Thank you.
Also, you say “vroom”sometimes when you do (kind of) hard things.
Hehe that’s great to hear :)
…when Jan says “hybrid vigor,” it makes me so happy.
😂😂
The backwards tilt + decorative planter is amazing advice!
Sometimes the small things make the difference :)

Roos ❤ you are also an inspiration! I'm in the splendid club too, love how fast it grows
Thanks Roos :) 🥰
Can’t wait for mine to get this big ❤
Happy growing :)

I had to hurry Through this video. What about the roots on the new Plant after Cutting it back and reporting it?
ABSOLUTELY
GORGEOUS 😍

what a magnificent splendid. makes mine still look like a baby 😂
Such a gorgeous one!! And you're absolutely right about the vigour of hybrids. Same goes for in the orchid world. Great video!!

It’ll be fine :) happy growing :)
Hi Jan
Another great chop! Of this majestic ,giant🌿 ✨
💚🌵🍀🌿💚
Thanks :)
Love your t-shirt from 3 years ago 🤗😂❤

Thank you :) regarding rhe watering, stick to the same frequency of watering but use less volume :)
I definitely need to pay more attention to my splendid!!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. ❤❤.
Your Splendid is growing amazingly 😀🇨🇦
Thank you :)
Love it! Would like to know more about who your plant inspirations have been. Who influenced your style? Or taught you some great things
Such a beautiful plant, definitely one of my favourites and going on the wish list ❤
Thanks :)
ok im obsessed😁 not even halfway done with the video and i may have had to pause it to go buy a splendid cutting🙈😍
Happy growing :)
that's what I did 😀
i will be trying to grow one plant on a pole with aroid mix instead of moss!!
Splendid Splendid Jan!
Thanks :)
Just wow!
I've given up on velvets 😢. Just came to drool 🤤❤
I love watching your videos, they are fun and informative. Can you explain how the planks are anchored into the pots?
I just pot them up :) i don’t anchor them
Can we all just please, please, live in a TREE HOUSE?! Please.
What a stunnig plant! Is it also on a 6cm in diameter moss pole or does it need more space?
Same pole as always :)
@@sydneyplantguy Thank you!

I try and safe some but often just have to chop them! If you have to chop them just try and gove the plant extra good conditions afterwards :)

Some shoots will outperform the others so the overcrowding issue will resolve itself once u start doing chop & extends :)
You are gorgeous ❤ your plants 🪴 are gorgeous also 😅

Depends on the conditions … could be anywhere between every 3-10 days
Mine is legitimately just a baby compared to this beast 😂 what do you do with the parts you’ve cut off?!
I give them to friends :)
🌱🌱🌱
💚🌿💚😻💚😻
Why do you bother with aroid mix, if the roots are in the moss? Why not just LECA?
Too heavy
How in the world do you keep mites off of your plants?
I shower them as frequently as possible to keep them clean :)
