Not just a classic game but one of the most important platformers of all time. It replicated the gameplay somewhat of the Mario games but in my opinion got the movement, jumping and overall challenge done correctly. Sega at their best.
The very first Sonic game, and the one that dawned the infamous rivalry between Nintendo and Sega at the time. Beautiful, fast-paced but difficult game for '91. Hard to believe Sonic is basically 30 years old now. I beat the game with all Chaos Emeralds before, though ironically, there was only SIX.
This game and others of Mega Drive ( Batman is my favourite) brings me feelings and memories of my childhood. There, I only have to do : - go to school and get very good califications - see my favourite TV shows and cartoons - play Sega Mega Drive with my brother at the weekend Very good times and memories. I 'd love return to them.
This one was my very first videogame and Megadrive was my very first videoconsole, so for me this video was so much nostalgic. I'm really happy to find it. Thanks for playing and recording it. Bye!
@@pferreira1983 depends when you got it. The bottom level of gaming skill is a lot higher now than it was back in the day and 12 years old is old enough to be competent at most things in life.
@@pferreira1983 Of course not, i could also beat it as a 12 year old. I'm talking about when i first played this game at around the age of 6 or 7. It was impossible back then.
before I became a huge fan of Crash Bandicoot, I remember when I was 1 years old I use to play super mario bros., marble madness, 1942, tiny toon adventures and now I remember playing sonic the hedgehog and it's sequels and spin offs, they were gems from the 90's, it's so good to have these memories of video games in my life :)
My first ever game I had on the mega drive i have completed it 100s of times even played it from the beginning throughout lockdown I can always get a high score of 400.000 every time
Playing this game for the first time on my sister’s hand me down mega drive when i was younger was awesome. This game changed my life and along with a gameboy with Super Mario Land that i got from a friend of my mum, this is how i got into retro gaming.
I grew up with Nintendo. But... my friend when I was 18 to 19 had a Genesis and sold me it for the price of $60(or the bag of weed he ended up buying!). It took me a long time to beat this but I almost had the last emerald. Such classic 80's feel. It never gets old!
This Sega Genesis version and Sega Mark 3(plus Game Gear version ^^) versions are probably ma most favourite versions of Sonic 1 ^^ 👍👏👍. Spring Yard(A great stage that does not existed in Sega Mark 3 version) and Scrap Brain stages are ma favourite along with their themes 👍. Love the rivalry between Dr.Eggman and Sonic in this game. Memorable experiences as I died a lot before be able to complete this game as a little kid 🤣🤣. Greatplaythrough by RickyC and cool Sonic 1 video from World of Longplays youtuber 👏👏👏.
ITS ABOUT TO HAVE its 30th ANNIVERSARY! Now joining the great milestones of so many of the classic game, movie, comic book and other collectibles from the 80s onward! NOICE! LONE LIVE SONICE! ^~^
I wish i could have all consoles in that time during the 80s and 2000s. But i couldn't i was too young to purchase me myself every console. I was a NES-Kid and i'm happy with this. But i loved SEGA too and purchases me a Dreamcast on its release just to play Shenmue.
This channel's been up for about 13 years and they're only now getting around to playing Sonic 1? I remember watching this channel 10 or so years ago, lel
Actually some times they remove some videos and upload new ones with the same game. They always had Sonic, but the older video has been replaced by this one.
While Sonic the Hedgehog had a lot of flaws, you must agree, this was an incredible start for the blue blur! Plus, Green Hill is one of the best Sonic levels ever!
I've been calculating the amount of rings RickyC collected in this entire longplay before getting hit once (And no, getting hit while using the shield power-up DOESN'T count, stop asking!!). And here's the total: Green Hill Zone: 280 rings (217 in all 3 acts, 63 total in special stages 1 & 2) Marble Zone: 313 rings (203 in all 3 acts, 110 total in special stages 3 & 4) Spring Yard Zone: 312 rings (250 in all 3 acts, 62 total in special stages 5 & 6) Water Maze From Hell Zone: 172 rings Starlight Zone: 223 rings Scrap Brain Zone: 105 rings (Got hit and lost your rings at 42:48) Total Ring Chain (Following SEGA AGES: Sonic 1's Ring Chain): 1,405 rings.
No, this is the correct speed the game should run at (60 FPS 60Hz), unless you live in PAL territories, where games in those days ran at 50Hz, and sound absolutely terrible due to the slower speed (17% slower).
When people say games of the Super NES and below are in 60FPS, (sure it’s running smoothly but when you watch a video of it on UA-cam, that’s when it is 60 frames) it doesn’t look like that to me because when you see games like Toshinden 3, Virtua Fighter or F-Zero X, they’re true 60FPS games (you see people, that’s real 60FPS. Because it’s actually smooth and we didn’t get that until the 5th generation). To put it bluntly, 60Hz is more accurate for these types of games.
No, these games run at 60 FPS, todays' games run mostly at 30 FPS. UA-cam halves the framerate on all the older WOL videos. NES, SMS, GB, SNES, Gen, PCE, all their games run at FPS. Not sure where you got this "these old 2D games don't run at 60 FPS" bit, but you'd be wrong.
Even the Sonic franchise that some people think that is not good as Mario Bros franchise i think actually that most Sonic games and most Mario games are very good funny awesome wonderful and nice because i can't wait to play Sonic Frontiers...😊😊👍🏻👍🏻🎮🎮😎😎😄😄😀😀☺️☺️✌🏻✌🏻

Yep, an unlike Sonic 2 onwards nothing happened once you collected them all
Return me to the 90s immediately please! The music in this game was (and still is) so great

Ah the music in Starlight Zone! Always love it!
My first game when i bought megadrive 16 bit for this console and the game.
Yes 🤣🥰
I imagine it was for a lot of people buying a Mega Drive.

That's for the majority of Genesis owners, by the way, except for the launch units, which had Altered Beast.
Ah, yes. My very first videogame ever. AKA: the one where i couldn't even get past Marble Zone as a kid. Fun times.
Lol the same. I had to get my sister to do the boss originally.
Is it wrong when I got this game as a 12 year old I beat it quite easily?

I always liked Sonic more than Mario, and i still remember getting a Genesis when I was 7 or 8 and playing this game for weeks on end.
It just plays better.
@usertheloset True. Some would say the controls of Sonic are broken compared to Mario. I'm in the camp who feels the opposite.
Sonic's blue hedgehog is almost 30 years old!
Mí gran infancia todo en estos juegos de SEGA y más en todas las versiones del sonic
This music will be always on my mind!!!

It's fantastic.

Good times🎮❤
The first Mega Drive game I ever played. We had a Master System before so had only played that version.
I.e. the much more difficult version.
My first Sonic was 2. In fact, I only started playing 1, 3, and Knuckles in later releases.
