- Sonic Spinball (Genesis) All Bosses (No Damage). Also known as Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball is the first adventure/pinball game released for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was originally released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1993.

Back on the day this game was criticized for being too hard, but it's still fun. Did you had fun?
Your telling me there are bosses in this game? Worse, your telling me that there is even more then one level in this game? I've never even seen Scorpius as a kid when I played this game for hours on end.
The 1 looks scary
It took me a couple of tries to get past the 3rd stage but I finished the game.
The highest level I got was the second.
And so ended the life of Dr. Ivo Robotnik, not with a bang, but with an "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE."
Didn't know robotnik was demonic

Funny that this was the only game where SatAM Sally, Bunny, Rotor and Antoine ( I think ) make an appearance, as well as Scratch from the other Cartoon.
Scratch makes an appearance in Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine as well.
Antoine doesn't appear here, but Sonic's dog Muttski does.
Scratch and Grounder are normal enemies in Sonic 2, although they look a bit different.

Ironically, that was because of the sound chip. From what I read on another comment, it was supposed to be quieter but the frequency (I think?) wasn't doable, or something, so it set itself at max.

This was made by the American division, which went largely off western produced media. (Hence, also the appearance of Scratch from "Adventures" in the third bonus game.)
@Star Wolf 128 Sonic would rather free his good old doggo muttski than Antoine.
In all seriousness, the game was released before the show so it's very possible that Antoine wasn't fully conceived as a character yet.

I remember playing this when I was younger, and when I hit the spider for the first time, I turned my genesis off so damn fast! That scream still haunts me.
I played this game when I was like 4, the bosses aren't scary.

This was a very good spin-off game - I always liked the bits in which you played as Sonic playing the pinball machine and could see his reflection deep in concentration as he was playing it.
God damn the pain sounds Robotnik makes tho is horrifying
I still stand by that the Sonic Spinball boss theme is one of the most badass boss themes ever.

So the title is accurate
You can get hurt, you get hurt by hitting the boss. No, Sonic doesn't get hurt, you do if your volume is high enough.
There should be a yes damage run... thatd be interesting

You’re right. While it is possible to get kicked out of the boss area, the only way you can “die” in this game is for Sonic to “drain” at the bottom of the stage map.

Edit: I forgot about that ending, Eggman falls directly into the collapsing Mt. Mobius, an active volcano.
Because it was made by a different team. Also the freedom figthers (Sally, Rotor and Bonnie) show up in the bonus pinball game.
It was designed to tie-in to the SatAM continuity of cartoons and comics, which were a lot darker than the main series.

I got to the last boss but never managed to beat him, too much randow $hit and RNG in this game.

when i played this as a kid, all i did was spindash and die in the first level, literally had no idea what i was even doing, but i still loved it

This is probably the only Classic era game constructed solely by American team (even the soundtrack). Hell, you could tell that's SatAM cartoon Sonic during the pinball stages.

Back in the day this was a great addition to sonic collection. So much darker than sonic 1 and 2 pretty much like the tv series sonic. Rather than it being all cutesy.
I mean they were dark tho, Robotnik enslaving your friends in his machines and making that Mega Mack substance in his factory, plus those last zones...
fun fact: due to time constraints, STI had to code Sonic Spinball in C instead of Z80 assembly.
Is that why it feels so sluggish?
@@Monacomaverick It's possible to code fast C, and even use assembly in C. Getting fast graphics on the Genesis meant using lots of hardware tricks which they had no time to finesse.

Roboiler was the thing of nightmares for me as a wee child. I always ran off when my dad got to it, lol.
Eggman sure was on drugs when he created those contraptions… especially the roboiler

God. I loved This game. But god was it scary.
You know a lot of people hate the music for this game? All because of the harder notes, but here I am saying that this music fucking rocks! I can't see this game with any other kind of soundtrack. I still listen to it in my fucking car.

These bosses looked like they ascended from hell

No idea why but every boss in this game was nightmare fuel when I was younger.
Even now seeing these bosses makes my skin crawl.
I couldn't even beat the first level as a child. Very cool to watch!
"No Damage"
In that game, the only "damage" you can get is to either die or lose all your balls
But in bosses fight, the worst they can do is trying to send you back to the level or to keep you at the bottom part

Never realized that the characters from the Sonic SatAM show were in the pinball bonus game. This is probably the only Sonic game that show cases them.

@@uchihashuji3449 Weeks old comment I know, but I do believe the actual reason was that they did a last second swap because the damsel-in-distress bit really isn't Sally's thing. It made more sense to use kid Amy (whose rights they had acquired fairly recently). They weren't able to update the manuals because of how late this change occurred.
I'm not sure what counts as "damage" in the context of this game, other than dying outright.

The stages that maked me fear this game was the Roboiler and the Veg-o-machine.

It's weird how sega tried multiple times to tie in the games with the satam cartoon, failed, and then proceeded to give all of us nightmares.
I played this so much as a kid and I didn't even know the first level had a boss. I don't think I'll play pinball ever again.

I am just now finding out that this game has bosses. I don’t remember ever getting past stage 2.
I mean probably someone is thinking this, but to get to level 2 you need to beat the boss of level 1.
The bosses still creep me out, that scream is still scary, and why are the birds being thrown in the machine turning into cats and then being turned into robot birds!?
Because...learning about anatomy sucks. But yeah, while those screams didn't terrify me the way it did to plenty of others, I was more afraid of the death/losing jingle associated with the words, "T O O B A D ! ! ☠️" and the ear-deafening Options Music which you got to hear in the Credits, so that's fun!

The encroaching surreal horror is what made this game stand out more than silent hill ever could, and an underestimated marvel for what it could accomplish despite the janky physics. A side note, the narration bar at the top would taunt you if you loitered around in safe spot on a boss fight lol.
One boss in and I can see where the inspiration for RED came from.
The only fully released sonic game to date thats based on SATAM
