It has it's moments, but you can't beat the original. I think my favorite part of this game as a kid was playing as the janitor in the first level of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, just because of how funny it was that they couldn't think of anything else for a co-op partner.

I’m sorry but I can’t agree just because anytime I’d play the first I’d just be wishing I could be playing the second. The features in the second are way better especially since it has I think the largest character customization section in any Lego game like it. Also Indy’s whip and lots of other weapons were better in the second game same with the open world and vehicles

I know I’m a little late to the party, but there are two things I REALLY like about this game.
    1. The nuke scene from Crystal Skull was pretty suspenseful with the alarm in the background. The bonus level with the charred remains was also really good since you see the aftermath.
    2. The fact they ACTUALLY kept the book burning scene from Last Crusade. Sure, there’s no “imagery,” but it’s pretty ballsy for a kids game.

I really love how the second levels of each of the main story levels are the place after the main story is over, it's very cool to see

One thing that can't be ignored is how advanced the fighting mechanics are in this game. In the first game, and pretty much every other lego game, every weapon has the same damage, whereas in LIJ 2, swords and shovels do more damage than your fists, and some enemies can only be defeated by disarming the using a sword. There's also Indy's area whip attack and his ability to tie up enemies, that can then be picked up and thrown at other enemies, rightfully making Indy the best fighter in the game.

I'm pretty sure the reason the level builder was axed in later games is directly because of how poorly the game was received. They really went all in with the level builder as the flagship feature of this game. I remember seeing the advertisement for the game (I think in Lego Batman), and it was the primary feature they advertised, and the primary reason I was so hyped to buy and play the game.
So when the game performed badly, they assumed "Oh, we need to go back to the tried and true formula, and axe all the new stuff, since that didn't work". It's really sad that they didn't see the potential in it, or recognize that it really was very good, because if they had gone with it, I think Lego games today would be elevated so much.

@@cheesenibbla8339 Yeah, I know, but it felt pretty half-baked and it was super buggy. My theory is they had probably already started implementing it before Lego Indy 2 released (There was a window where both games were in development concurrently), and then when that game performed badly, they kind of just threw some low-effort finishing touches on it and called it good.

While I do still enjoy playing Lego Indiana Jones 2, think one of the Main problems with it is that many of the Main story levels are inaccurate to the film scenes they are portraying, such as There is more than one of the Soviet Jungle Cutter, Belloq not appearing until the desert chase, the flying wing fight is completely absent, the pankot palace instantly erupts into a massive beat em up fight instead of the dinner scene taking place, and Belloq, Mola Ram, Donovan, Dovchenko, And Spalko all turning into weird huge final bosses, still the game is always enjoyable to play. I really do hope we get a Lego Indiana Jones 3: The Complete Adventures In 2023 to come out alongside the 5th entry in the Indiana Jones Saga

    • @nota444tm2
      @nota444tm2 2 роки тому +14

Im certain the innaccuracies are on purpose. Especially with the bosses because LIJ1 already gave us the accurate version.
The bosses at the end are basically what if scenarios where the main villain actually becomes godlike and not get themselves killed the moment they open an ark, drink a chalice, gets too much information, etc.
Mola ram's fight was cool to me cause you fight the kali statue and the music is booming the kali ma sacrifice theme.
Idk why but i thought that was super cool.

Yes and in LEGO Indiana Jones 3: The Complete Adventures the open world and characters will be unique and interesting. It will obviously have to be like the Skywalker Saga since the places are all scattered across the world, so the open world would be huge. And you can choose which adventure to start with! Imagine getting to freely explore places like Egypt, the university and the city its in, Shanghai, Pankot Palace and the surrounding jungle(Temple of Doom can be entered via the secret passageway), Berlin, and all the other places!

I think it's really interesting that this game basically has the same strengths and weaknesses as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. They both have really short story levels, and really shine in the hub and new mechanics. But unlike this game, the Skywalker Saga has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. I guess it's probably because it's on such a larger scale, and is dealing with a more beloved and nostalgic IP (rather than focusing on a sequel that most people didn't like).

    • @merlith4650
      @merlith4650 2 роки тому +22

Yeah I personally found skywalker saga to be a disappointment. Short missions and just overall lack of creativity in design. Character identity is reduced down to "class" systems that don't even always makes sense to the character. Like Chewbacca being able to solve the sharpshooter special because he is a "scoundrel" class, whereas characters like Jango Fett, one of the greatest gunslingers in galactic history can't do it.. or how the glide ability seems to be restricted to the scavenger class despite there being characters with jetpacks and actual wings.
Alot of the characters don't even have any unique abilities or usage. Which is such a downgrade from the last lego title "DC super villains" which had a massive amount of detail put into their characters and abilities aswell as the most advanced and detailed character creator (which doesn't even exist at all in skywalker saga).
I wish they would remove themselves from this "open world filler"-trend they've gotten into since the lego comic games.
Skywalker saga is about to become another lego game I won't bother getting 100%, the open world content to unlock characters is just so repetitive (with so much back and forth traveling) and gets stale real quick.

Skywalker saga was more liked because it was a game that got delayed for 2 years and fans were desperate to accept any content they were given. Not only was Lego Star Wars shining more on the prequels and originals that people liked, it didn’t put much effort into the sequels because no one would want them. Indiana Jones mainly focused on a movie which people didn’t like and people were already satisfied with the first Lego game.

Since then, I always thought to myself how silly i was to make a such a shallow connection, but now it turns out I was 1000% correct. TSS has super short story levels but a large hub and lots of side missions.

Lego Inidana Jones 1 was one of the first games I've ever played and I totally loved it! I was so thrilled when the second Lego Indy game came out. Although it is up to this day my favourite Lego game, I have to admit that I wasn't very fascinated when I first played it. Actually I was somewhat dissappointed because it was so different than the first game and Lego Star Wars which I played before as well.
But as I played the game I started to like it over time. I was just a little put off by the new features at the begining. Eventually I played it more than the first game and over time it became my favourite of the Lego Games.
I agree that exploring the hub worlds is the most fun thing to do. After beating the story mode, It's much more fun to have one big overworld for each film (Except Crystall skull that got 3) with 10 new levels to find instead of just playing the story levels again.
I also love the secrets and little details of the game. If you return to the house that was bombed and extinguish the fire, you can unlock the mannequins as living characters. I know this is weird as heck, but I just like that they thought about that. Another great detail is how you get the main villains. Dovchenko, for example, who was burried by ants, can be unlocked if you dig him out and then build him together, and then you can buy him. They did that with all important villains, and that's just cool.
Next to the overworlds, the level builder probably was the most fun thing in the game. Especially when playing it with friends.
Yes, that the main story levels are so short probably is a big problem for many, but to me personally I always loved this about the game! As a kid I always had the need to beat the levels of Lego Indy 1 as quick as possible, so that the levels there are short was perfect for me. I always was like "Huh? That was it? I beat it? Yaaay!"
But in total it is only fair to critizie that.
Playing the first 3 movies of the first game again in the second game always felt like a parody to me, and I just loved it. I think it would have been boring if they just told the same story of the movie again. That they instead made everything kind of goofy and different from the first game to be more humorous feels like a good choice to me.
I have to say I totally love the three different kinds of levels in the game.
The vehicle levels were very enjoyable to me personally. Maybe it's because I'm too used to this game, but I never found the controls of the vehicles to be problematic. I like how you usually start at the bottom with like the motorcycle or the horses and you first find a car and then a truck to get a more powerful vehicle. In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Part 2 this is the opposite though, as you right away start with the jungle cutter that just one hit destroys everything. It's true that it's repatitive, but I was never bothered by it.
I can see why you think the battle levels are trash. They aren't anything special at all to be fair, you beat up some guys and that was it, but I thought them to be extremely fun. The game gives you a litst of characters you have to find and kill and you just go for it and beat them up. I also thought it was funny how the antagonist in the background gets mad when you killed everyone and calls for more.
I know that the boss levels are pretty controversal, but I just love them. I especially love the boss fight against the Kali statue in the temple of doom. In the first game you could climb on it and there was a minikit on its head, but in this game you can actually fight it! This is just my favourite level of the game. I find the idea so cool that you have to throw water bottles at it and use your whip to rip its arms off until you get the head in the end. I know this has like nothing to do with the films anymore, but I still think it's very entertaining to play.
Yes, the first two levels of the game aren't that short unlike the 3rd or the 5th level that can be beaten in under a minute. This is probably a more personal thing, but I actually prefer having 15 short levels with a overworld that is full of stuff to explore than 6 long levels that you have to beat twice.
In the end, I understand your problems that the levels are too short and repatitive, but I personally like that the levels are short. Well, opinions can be different, that's perfectly fine. It was a fair review overall

I don't think it's a bad game. It's certainly better than the fourth Indy film, and in many respects, it improves on that film.
My only real complaint with it, is that instead of focusing solely on the fourth film, it pads out its length with levels based on the original trilogy.
Why did they do that? For longtime fans and people who played the first game......well, we've already played the first game! We don't need a reminder
of what happened in the older films. Especially not when we only get to play a select few levels based on those films, and not the full stories, which we
did in the first game. And for those who are new to perhaps both the Indy franchise and haven't played the first game, they'd be much better off
playing through the first game first, instead of these truncated versions presented here.
So is the game bad? No, I don't think so. I certainly think it could be better, but given the source material, it's FAR better than it has any right to be.

Obviously playing the 4th film is great as well.
All the bonus levels, revisiting the levels in the aftermath, the super bonus levels.
There were so much creative and clever ideas in here.
And then obviously making custom levels was a highlight.

And I'm glad you shed some light on the more positive aspects, such as the bonus levels and the level editor. And the thing is, I only started playing the first game a couple years after this one but it's also a pretty good LEGO game. What makes it stick out to me is the collectibles. Its so much more satisfying to buy characters or extras in that game. Being able to hunt down the characters may be a bit tedious at times but I personally like it better than buying them from the library like in Indy 1. Also the hub world feels cozy to roam around in then say LEGO marvel, but that's just personal preference. I cant seem so sit down and play something as big as LEGO marvel because it feels bloated and more time-consuming to 100%. The levels are short and sweet, although not as satisfying to go through a second time for completion. But I do enjoy the creativity of the bonus levels. Just not something that sticks out for me

One reason i didn’t like it is because in other lego games, you unlock other characters to be able to go back to the level and get stuff, you normally couldn’t get with the characters in story mode. But i feel in this game there is no need to unlock other characters because you can already find all the secrets in the level without the use of other characters.

But by the third one, I just got tired because it felt like the same checklist all over again with no variation. Finding all the hidden items for the color bricks was a chore, and the vehicle levels are clearly intended to be played on co-op and thus not fun for me playing solo. 100%ing this game with a friend must be a blast, but it's the only lego game in which I felt obliged to do it that way. To recall my experience from about a year or so ago, it was a pretty basic Lego game that was trying to scale back a little too much. The bonus levels were fun indeed and I did appreciate the hub world afterwards, but it just lacked in terms of the replayability for the story missions/free play. And don’t even get me started on the vehicle stages as well, I dreaded them every time and especially the bonus ones where you had to pop balloons or anything like that. This video was what caused me to try this game again, and I don't think I could give the game any lower than a 7.5. Yeah, I'll absolutely concede that the story levels are underwhelming (not bad, just underwhelming), but I can forgive that specifically because they're short and allow you to get to exploring and bonuses faster. Maybe it's because I'm choosing to 100% each chapter instead of beating all story levels and then going back.
I will also note that vehicle levels are more fun when you know that having a power-up gives you a Stud Magnet effect. Also that the Treasure Mode of Crystal Skull Part 1's boss level is insane for grinding cash. I had the 1,000,000 needed for ×2 Score within 15 minutes.

This is what I took from Lego Indy 2:
The level design gets boring quickly and it's quite repetitive, the chapters and stories don't really seem to even have their own unique parts to the gameplay that you can only experience in it's own chapter which I think was a missed opportunity, also the fact that the characters were locked to their own chapter, as much as it makes sense to do this, most the fun of the LEGO games is getting to play however you want to play and this is quite restrictive.
The open worlds hub are extremely fun, I can almost see this game being where the start of the inspiration for world hubs were started in more modern LEGO Games.

I thought this game was one of the best lego games I've played and I managed to keep interest in the story mostly because I'm a huge indy fan and I thought the combat was good with swords and shovels doing more damage, people with swords being able to cut indy's rope was cool aswell and in the beat them up levels I would just use indy and tie everyone up and throw them around which was funny to me. Also people with black swords only being able to be beaten with a sword was a cool idea I thought. idk I just really enjoyed this game and have 3 saves of it 100% on my play station lol.

@@easilyeasy That version does get rid of the Raiders, Temple and Crusade stories. The levels, which are only Crystal Skull, each have their own and multiple segments. There are sometimes new mechanics for certain levels, like the end of the Jungle Chase level which is Mutt vs Spalko. The mini games do reference all four films and they are also fun. The cutscenes are however similar to LEGO Batman DS, pictures but also with reading. It's treated as if it was Indy's diary, which it is. The overworld you play in is you finding characters scrambled and finding bricks, similar to the overworlds in the console version of the game. I honestly suggest giving it a try. The DS and PSVita games are the same. If you don't want to, that's completely fine.

I’m fascinated that the book burning scene is something that LEGO approved of as an entire level for a kids game. The scene itself is honestly more disturbing than any of the kills in the series, even ignoring that I find most people’s view of Indiana Jones gore exaggerated.
Not to plug my channel but that scene is something my brother (not the most PC fellow) didn’t approve of for an entire video in my excessively gory Brickfilm remake of The Last Crusade, insisting that I combine it with the plane scene because making an entire video about that subject would be going too far. I ultimately stuck with giving it a dedicated vid but not for as long as the level is in the game- he approved of it.

Coming here after being very confused after "completing" part 1 of crystal skull. "You completed part 1" yeah but... it still says there's more levels to do, the bonus hub levels. I did about half of them thinking they were part of the story, like the game gave me a fake completion screen. I guess I'll play the story missions and then go back and do the "bonus" ones. So confusing. Makes sense now though.
They would've been so much better off making the layout more like lego star wars, all of the episodes lined up in the cantina so it's easy to tell which ones you haven't done yet and which ones you completed. I really hate the whole "warehouse" screen. It's similar to Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga and I hated it in that game too.
I played the original Indiana jones lego game on the Xbox, so I got it on steam today, realized that this game, the Adventure Continues, includes the 4th movie. So I refunded the original game and bought this one. Probably shoulda just kept the first game.

(Very late to the party, I know) As a kid, I had both this game and Starwars the Complete Saga, an although I liked both I definitely replayed the main levels of Starwars even if I probably had more hours in this one since I also enjoyed the postgame. I gotta agree that the the main levels weren't the greatest, though most of the normal levels were okay (albeit sometimes being the size of a red brick puzzle in the Complete Saga) I remember being specifically annoyed by the car levels (seriously somehow the managed to also make their bonus levels bad) and not really caring for the beat-em-ups. Even if we can't understand it at younger ages there are definitely objective things that cause certain aspects of games more enjoyable than others even if we choose to ignore it from nostalgia or simply not remembering. There are key moments from both games that I remember enjoying, like the gameplay loop of finding new characters to beat bonus stages in the Adventure Continues and constantly finding new neat secrets in the levels of The Complete Saga, even if they feel completely different at times. I wish the Adventure Continues would of been a learning tool for trying new things and keeping them in future games instead of a "this is awful avoid everything related to this in newer games", because I feel like a bunch of the gameplay from this could of translated well to a more normal formula, but it instead it was completely discarded. Overall, its differences makes in its own fun experience even if it wasn't perfected.

To be fair, I just played the first game and only watched gameplay vids from the 2nd one, but I think, the problem is, as follows:
The second game manely focuses on the 4th movie. That's great, but why didn't they do it in the first game as well? I mean, the first game came within the first Lego-Indiana-Jones-wave, which promoted the 4th movie. So it would make sense to include this new movie in the video-game. Who knows, maybe Tt-Games hadn't enaught informations about the plot, while developing the first game, or tehy wanted to stay to their 3-campains-principe, so they only include the first 3 movies. It's only speculation.
We didn't realy need a 2nd Lego Indiana Jones for one missing movie, but we would have needed it lesser, when all movies where avaiable in the first game.
Some mechanics like the level-designer or the open world are still nice ideas.

I know I’m late to the comment party, but wanted to share how much I have disliked and been disappointed with Lego game design in the past few years. Older Lego games like complete saga, or the original Lego Indiana Jones had real levels with multiple parts that felt like a whole experience. I felt let down with Indiana Jones, 2 and with Skywalker Saga, because the levels were so short and were basically in one room. I felt like I was spending more time wandering around to find levels or in cut scenes, than actually playing the game that I wanted to play. My best example of this is when I wanted to introduce Lego Indiana Jones 2 to my college roommate a few years ago when we lived together. He had never played it before and was interested because he loved the first one so much. After only a couple levels, we decided we would much rather relive the nostalgia of our childhood in the first game, and literally bought another copy of the first game instead of, going to our parents house to get our original copy or playing the second game some more. Over the course of two or three days we had already 100% the first Indiana Jones Lego game, during a college school year we were both working as well. I think that just goes to show, how enamoring original Lego games were. There is just something about the substantial amount of level, with multiple things to see and multiple things to do. I know many people love some of the open world design of newer Lego games, but I would honestly much rather have a modern linear game that felt like the old ones. The original Lego Indiana Jones is absolutely goated. Anyway… great video! Good game but why play good when you can play the same thing but great?

There is a glitch in this game and it makes you invincible to players and attacking NPCS here is how you do it! First, you need a character with a lasso and lasso any character that you can play as. Then, drop them and as you are dropping them, you need to press the attack button to throw them. Finally, play as the character that you threw. And when a NPC comes to attack you, they die in almost an instant! This also works on Co-op mode too and on XBOX 360 and XBOX ONE
