    I saw my great grandmother on her deathbed in the 1974 before she died at the age of 96. Her son, my father's uncle was a Philippine Army Scout and died in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp. My great grandmother was receiving US government compensation money till she died at 96. That money put my father through architectural school and became an architect. Their sacrifice left a legacy. Great video. We are in Canada now.

    This memorial is one of the big reasons PH is my only choice of a country to visit, the country has such a heavy connection to the US that no other nation really can compete with, PH and the PH people.

    PH also was home to U.S. General Douglas Mc Arthur, and U.S. 34th President Dwight Eisenhower, both lived in Manila for many years being the assigned U.S. Commanders during the American period before WW2.

    That reminds us Filipinos of the ultimate sacrifice being once the territory and almost became the 51st state of the United States in the Pacific. Also, a geographical thing is that somehow we are more of a Pacific Islander nation the more belong to the Polynesians of the Pacific than being integrated into South East Asia. The same faith, same colonizers, same culture, same religion, same physic, same names and surnames as our Pacific bros, more than South East Asians. You could see there on the map in that memorial, the massive connections between PH and the Pacific nations in the time of the Americans, and even in the Spanish period.

    • @OurPhilippinesAdventures
      @OurPhilippinesAdventures  11 місяців тому +1

      That's quite insightful. Filipinos do share a lot of similarities with Pacific islanders...

      @@OurPhilippinesAdventures They were our relatives. Back in the day when there was no established South East Asian region/zoning, PH was closer to them in people-to-people connection: Polynesian, Tongan, Hawaiian, Guamanian, and Samoan. Even their local dialects have borrowed some Tagalog words. If you go to Hawaii for instance, a huge number of their population originated from the PH, the same goes with Guam, Saipan, and other Micronesia nations.

    • @darwinyuson9338

      @@OurPhilippinesAdventures Mainland South East Asia is more of Chinese ethnicity, as you could see in their features like Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Burmese, and Lao. They have land borders up to the southern part going to Malaysia, Singapore, and some parts of Indonesia as well, while the Philippines is directly facing the Pacific without a land border with any of SE Asian nations. Also, PH, Guam, Saipan, and Hawaii were extensions under Spain's colony and diocese including Mexico as one territory, before the American occupation then. The Manila-Acapulco Mexico route trade in the time of the Spaniards was instrumental in bringing these areas closer to each other, name it exchange of people, goods, trade, soldiers, priests, missionaries, etc.

    I have visited the American Cemetary in Thailand. It could not compare to the American Cemetary in Manila. The one in Thailand was smaller, maybe around 1 hectare of land allocated for the American Cementary. The Cemetary over in Thailand looks neglected with no green grass at all just brown dirt with white crosses.
