Mass Effect had a couple of them, though only the reporter npc actually fought back. There's the Salarian on Sur'Kesh who keeps asking you not to push a random button and getting fed up as you continue until he turns the button off. And there's not-quite-an-npc voice that repeatedly tells you to leave the waterfall in the casino alone if you keep touching it.
Gruntilda the witch from _Banjo-Kazooie_ . She’s just like Mr. Resetti with one small difference - her threat isn’t a bluff. Using a cheat code gets you a slap on the wrist, a repeat offense, and Gruntilda gives you a much more stern warning that entering a third code will see her erase your game save data, and on strike 3, well, she... ( _checks notes_ ) ...ahh, yes, erases your save game data. WHOOPS! *😅*

Okay you guys need to do a comments section version of this because you missed the absolute best and most iconic NPC freak out: The Merchant in The Messenger. If you keep check his cabinet when he has told you to knock it off he will get progressively more annoyed, even warning you that he will punish you. If you are dumb enough (or curious enough) to find out your punishment he tells you a VERY LONG and VERY BORING story for 5 minutes straight while using the slowest text speed and disabling your ability to skip text. I fell out of my chair laughing when I discovered this.

I will never forget the save moogle from FFIX who goes full Tonberry on you if you call him too many times without needing him for anything by saying he's sharpening his knife. Now, technically, nothing actually comes from it if you continue bothering him but when your a 9 year old child & you hear that coming from a creature who you thought was relatively harmless & was your little save buddy, you kind of don't want to find out what happens if you did continue to annoy him. Also, you just know if the devs had been able to program it that adorable moogle would have absolutely ko'ed the entire party for annoying him too many times & maybe even flat out refuse to save again until you apologized to him

Crushing Moira's dreams always feels so wrong even though it makes realistic sense. It's like if Undertale let you tell Papyrus that The Royal Guards will kill you & take your soul if he sends you to them & then he did his rare sad face & said "Oh... I... don't think I wanna be one anymore. You can pass, human. I won't stop you." & then he just went home & you could never visit him.
Another great example is if you use the fill in the blank questions to swear at the You Don't Know Jack host, he'll massively dock your score. Do it too many times, and he'll just shut the game off, exiting to desktop.
I remember resetting saying he was going to to delete my save file and then the screen going black or something and coming back to him saying “nah I wouldn’t do that.” I never quit early after that

Seeing that zelda entry reminds me of the hinox you meet in the legend of zelda: a link between world. You basically shake him down for rupees as he tries to bargin with you to keep his hiding spot a secret. You could accept his first offer of a few rupees or you can ask for more increasingly more amounts of rupees. Ask for too much and he goes ballistic and becomes invincible as he attacks you until you leave. Come back and he rages again.
There's a (I believe) Zora in A Link between Worlds that has a hide out that it wants to be kept secret, and basically bribes you to keep your mouth shut. (Hope this will be in a future commentor edition of this topic)
Got to give a shout out to your fellow gang members in Red Dead Redemption II. Antagonize your friends at camp too much, and eventually they’ll have enough of your crap and punch you out.
On one of my GTA V playthroughs, I got Trevor and Franklin into a shootout with each other, which is possible if you take control of Trevor before Michael introduces he and Franklin. It was pretty amusing switching between them and hearing their dialogue.
One that of course comes to mind is the shopkeeper from Link's Awakening, who'll not only straight up murder you if you come back after stealing from his shop, but permanently changes your name to THIEF. Of course, there's always the classic from Halo, where if you shoot/melee/grenade too many friendlies, they'll turn their guns back on you.
Luis Sera in Resident Evil 4. Shoot him one too many times during the sequence where he and Leon defend a cabin from a army of Los Ganados and he will shoot Leon and kill him.
If u hit one of the other protagonists in GTA 5 with a 'not so lethal' weapon(atomizer), they'll chase you around, shooting at you with the precision of an online master

I recently learned you can annoy a certain NPC in Baldurs Gate 3 into taking an important early act 3 deal off the table. You need to throw him off the map to trigger it, but it is only a few otherwise unheard lines.
You forgot to mention the most savage npc in gaming history; the Cuccos. They endure multiple sword slashes from Link, “the legendary Hero” without even a scratch. And when they had enough, they call their brethren to bombard him with talons and beaks, following to the ends of the earth until they have decided he sure have learned his lesson. If not… they will have to teach him again and again until he does.
Having a mole wave a pickaxe at you is super relaxing, but the ones I've genetically engineered to be big enough to hold one, and have the thumbs to do so, don't live longer than five months at most. Most are even shorter lived, because while they can hold a pickaxe, they're also very clumsy on account of their poor eyesight
I remember purposely resetting the game, just to see what resetti will say next. I did it for hours, at the end, he understood that I was just messing with him, he became depressed and left. There were just a sign instead of him. Then his brother start to replace him doing the job. But he was a lot nicer and dumber than him. He mentioned that resseti quit and leave his family too. It amazed me how much stuff they add to this character
Khalisah al-Jilani from Mass Effect. You can punch her in 1 and 2, but by the time of 3 she's ready and will dodge and counterattack. If you're, understandably, not expecting the QTE, you, the great Commander Shepard, will get knocked on your ass.
Shout out to Luis in Resident Evil 4's cabin fight, who's willing to let a little bit of friendly fire slide, but can also give you a cutscene game over if you don't stop. Adios, Leon.
Animal Crossing isn't the only one to pull the "fake reset trick" Let me take you back to the 2D world of Legend of Zelda More specifically, Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons. In the subworld of the game, called Subrosia, if you wander enough, you meet an NPC known as the Sign Loving Subrosian. If you go inside his house and talk to him, he rhapsodizes about signs for a bite, before checking to see how many signs you've destroyed. If you haven't destroyed any he's happy, but once you've destroyed a sin or two, he starts getting upset, and starts telling you off for doing so. But if there's one thing Link loves, its destroying other people's property. Also, there's a sign conveniently located right outside the Sign Loving Subrosian's house for easy sign grinding. The Sign-Loving Subrosian gets increasingly upset and angry as you destroy more signs, but nothing changes apart from his dialogue. Until you've destroyed 100 signs, at which point the Subrosian gets so angry, they fake restart the game. Then, they give you a ring, commemorating the fact you destroyed 100 signs. They say its to remind you not to do that again. I say it's a free ring.
The one with Magda is the one I already knew about in spite of never playing the game. My nephew found the whole thing hilarious and because he's little, that means if it's repeatable, It'll be repeated

Seeing the part where an NPC beats the main character up for stepping on flowers: "That seems a bit much, and it seems annoying that you don't have the option to fight back." Seeing the part where NPCs kill the main character for opening fire on them: "Well, that makes sense, but I worry about this triggering accidentally during the fight." Seeing the part where an NPC kills one of the player characters for kidnapping their pet hamster, exploding the hamster, and then showing the NPC the remains: "...I have so many questions I don't want the answers to, but WTF, player?! And mainly WTF, designers?!"
Resetti was always so weird to me. Because like... Nintendo expressly did not add an autosave, but DID in some respect because there needs to be some level of autosave for Resetti to "know" if you reset your game. Like they went out of their way to NOT add a useful autosave, but put an annoying NPC in its place.
Resetti tends to get a bit upsetti spaghetti but that just reminds me of my brother whenever the cats accidentally turn off his PS4 in the middle of a game
Halo: Combat Evolved - Attacking marines too many times gets them turning on you and gunning you down pretty rapidly. Also killing Captain Keyes in the beginning gets an immortal squad of marines to gun you down.
Connie from Steambot Chronicles. From the very start, you can be a massive jerk to her, telling her to be quiet when she's simply showing concern for you, the unconscious person she just found lying washed ashore amidst a shipwreck. From there, you can surrender her to a thief who tries to gatekeep you from reaching a nearby safe place, troll her telling her the wrong description of an event you just witnessed, and demanding money from her. This last one can be done multiple times throughout the story, culminating in Connie angrily giving handing an "IOU" note, which you can then subsequently attempt to cash in on in the post-game, whereupon she finally calls you a jerk for demanding handouts from her.
Luke too scared to call Jane out. Understandable. NPC's a few days from retirement are endangered species after all.

The game does let you consume part of the souls of humans in the citadel without drawing aggro, as long as you don't kill them.

Great video as always, though i cant belive the friendly enemy from link between worlds that you can keep accepting money from till he has a full on breakdown and charges you wildly didnt make the cut
Seeing that zelda entry reminds me of the hinox you meet in the legend of zelda: a link between world. You basically shake him down for rupees as he tries to bargin with you to keep his hiding spot a secret. You could accept his first offer of a few rupees or you can ask for more increasingly more amounts of rupees. Ask for too much and he goes ballistic and becomes invincible as he attacks you until you leave. Come back and he rages again.
Ah, Maniac Mansion, the first game I pushed an NPC over the edge. I haven't looked back since.
There's a (I believe) Zora in A Link between Worlds that has a hide out that it wants to be kept secret, and basically bribes you to keep your mouth shut. (Hope this will be in a future commentor edition of this topic)

In New Horizons, Mr. Resetti and his brother Don are helicopter pilots!
On one of my GTA V playthroughs, I got Trevor and Franklin into a shootout with each other, which is possible if you take control of Trevor before Michael introduces he and Franklin.
It was pretty amusing switching between them and hearing their dialogue.
One that of course comes to mind is the shopkeeper from Link's Awakening, who'll not only straight up murder you if you come back after stealing from his shop, but permanently changes your name to THIEF.
Of course, there's always the classic from Halo, where if you shoot/melee/grenade too many friendlies, they'll turn their guns back on you.
Luis Sera in Resident Evil 4. Shoot him one too many times during the sequence where he and Leon defend a cabin from a army of Los Ganados and he will shoot Leon and kill him.
Resetti literally scares children so much that they removed him from New Horizons.
At least he's always handy with a helicopter.
I love the idea of Link paragliding and then angrily snapping at NPCs: “Avert your gaze!”
If u hit one of the other protagonists in GTA 5 with a 'not so lethal' weapon(atomizer), they'll chase you around, shooting at you with the precision of an online master

I recently learned you can annoy a certain NPC in Baldurs Gate 3 into taking an important early act 3 deal off the table. You need to throw him off the map to trigger it, but it is only a few otherwise unheard lines.
You forgot to mention the most savage npc in gaming history; the Cuccos.
They endure multiple sword slashes from Link, “the legendary Hero” without even a scratch. And when they had enough, they call their brethren to bombard him with talons and beaks, following to the ends of the earth until they have decided he sure have learned his lesson. If not… they will have to teach him again and again until he does.
First "Luke? There was never a Luke" and now this. Jane is savage towards those NPCs.
Having a mole wave a pickaxe at you is super relaxing, but the ones I've genetically engineered to be big enough to hold one, and have the thumbs to do so, don't live longer than five months at most. Most are even shorter lived, because while they can hold a pickaxe, they're also very clumsy on account of their poor eyesight

I remember purposely resetting the game, just to see what resetti will say next.
I did it for hours, at the end, he understood that I was just messing with him, he became depressed and left. There were just a sign instead of him. Then his brother start to replace him doing the job. But he was a lot nicer and dumber than him. He mentioned that resseti quit and leave his family too.
It amazed me how much stuff they add to this character
Khalisah al-Jilani from Mass Effect. You can punch her in 1 and 2, but by the time of 3 she's ready and will dodge and counterattack. If you're, understandably, not expecting the QTE, you, the great Commander Shepard, will get knocked on your ass.
She needs to be weaponised against the reapers
The guard in Vivec City that i used to hide behind a plant pot to attack as part of the maximum gold glitch comes to mind from morrowind.
I like that the Mallow one isn't "No." or "I don't think that's a good idea." but "NO!".
Shout out to Luis in Resident Evil 4's cabin fight, who's willing to let a little bit of friendly fire slide, but can also give you a cutscene game over if you don't stop. Adios, Leon.

More specifically, Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons.
In the subworld of the game, called Subrosia, if you wander enough, you meet an NPC known as the Sign Loving Subrosian. If you go inside his house and talk to him, he rhapsodizes about signs for a bite, before checking to see how many signs you've destroyed. If you haven't destroyed any he's happy, but once you've destroyed a sin or two, he starts getting upset, and starts telling you off for doing so.
But if there's one thing Link loves, its destroying other people's property. Also, there's a sign conveniently located right outside the Sign Loving Subrosian's house for easy sign grinding.
The Sign-Loving Subrosian gets increasingly upset and angry as you destroy more signs, but nothing changes apart from his dialogue. Until you've destroyed 100 signs, at which point the Subrosian gets so angry, they fake restart the game.
Then, they give you a ring, commemorating the fact you destroyed 100 signs. They say its to remind you not to do that again. I say it's a free ring.
When I realized the Monks weren't hostile until you shoot one, I was relieved at the ammo I wouldn't be spending, and all the health packs I'd save.
The one with Magda is the one I already knew about in spite of never playing the game. My nephew found the whole thing hilarious and because he's little, that means if it's repeatable, It'll be repeated

Maybe not a particularly disastrous consequence but in Cult of the Lamb one of the shopkeepers you meet during your crusades will absolutely not hesitate to throw hands if you attack their beloved snail one too many times
Seeing the part where an NPC beats the main character up for stepping on flowers: "That seems a bit much, and it seems annoying that you don't have the option to fight back."
Seeing the part where NPCs kill the main character for opening fire on them: "Well, that makes sense, but I worry about this triggering accidentally during the fight."
Seeing the part where an NPC kills one of the player characters for kidnapping their pet hamster, exploding the hamster, and then showing the NPC the remains: "...I have so many questions I don't want the answers to, but WTF, player?! And mainly WTF, designers?!"
Worse, its apparently cannon as you run into the same NPC in Day of the Tentacle and he's had therapy about not losing his cool.
Resetti was always so weird to me. Because like... Nintendo expressly did not add an autosave, but DID in some respect because there needs to be some level of autosave for Resetti to "know" if you reset your game. Like they went out of their way to NOT add a useful autosave, but put an annoying NPC in its place.
Resetti tends to get a bit upsetti spaghetti but that just reminds me of my brother whenever the cats accidentally turn off his PS4 in the middle of a game
Halo: Combat Evolved - Attacking marines too many times gets them turning on you and gunning you down pretty rapidly. Also killing Captain Keyes in the beginning gets an immortal squad of marines to gun you down.
Connie from Steambot Chronicles. From the very start, you can be a massive jerk to her, telling her to be quiet when she's simply showing concern for you, the unconscious person she just found lying washed ashore amidst a shipwreck. From there, you can surrender her to a thief who tries to gatekeep you from reaching a nearby safe place, troll her telling her the wrong description of an event you just witnessed, and demanding money from her. This last one can be done multiple times throughout the story, culminating in Connie angrily giving handing an "IOU" note, which you can then subsequently attempt to cash in on in the post-game, whereupon she finally calls you a jerk for demanding handouts from her.
