Recently shaft brands have upped their game regarding their “stock” shafts AKA free shafts that come with OEM drivers. I believe this is due to the backlash that came 5-10 years ago when people started realizing the dirty game equipment companies were playing where they would pay shaft companies for the right to put the shaft companies name on a shaft the equipment company had made for $3.00. Mitsubishi has been one of the only brands that refused to do that and made all their shafts in house. Also of note, Ping shafts and Srixon/Cleveland/XXIO have always been the exception and making stock shafts that are as good as aftermarket.

Ping G425 Max is offered in a Tensei AV Raw Orange. Question: All things remaining equal, please compare what the expected characteristics are: the 55g vs. the 65 g shafts in both S and R flexs. Thanks

That CK Orange is tricky. I’ve seen authentic aftermarket real deal etc etc and the K is Orange and they only have one band of orange with more visible carbon fiber extending up beneath the grip

@@GOLFTECLessonsFittings at least on MCA’s site it shows the K in orange and that’s on the CK and CK Pro. The pro gets the tungsten prepreg.

It's basically the difference btw the ck and ck pro. There's a big W on the pro.

Member1234 is correct. Look for the CK Pro when looking for the high end version of the Tensei series.

    Good stuff guys,
I would like to see more info in the evolution of graphite shafts and compare early versions against modern versions. You mentioned that OEM shafts are better built now but how so and why?

when he says OEM stock (red Ventus) 4:50 he means "made for" it's not a true OEM.
Made for means bulk buying by the clubhead manufacturer. Made for are not bad shafts but watered down version, less high-quality materials are used and the tolerances are much wider (weight, flex kick points).

Question about Tensei AV Raw Blue. The genuine aftermarket version is labeled 65-X for instance. Taylormade has a 60-X version that cannot be found anywhere on Mitsubishi's website. Is this a made-for stock model?

Hi Sung, this is Brad with GOLFTEC, and that is correct. Often the Major Brands will get a special shaft made for their stock options. Are you looking to replace a broken one?

@@GOLFTECLessonsFittings Nope just trying to learn what the actual difference is. Eventually, I'd like to see if I can get fit into this shaft (as I have an affinity with them in my woods), but with all the "60-X" shafts I see out there, I wanted to know what the difference was. Thanks!

Sung, I'd for sure look into a fitting to test several different shafts. The shaft is what really allows you to find the middle of the face.

You might to mention that people should be advanced in their swing before they go for a fitting. Because they they do more lessons, their needs will change and they will have to start all over. And most but your best golfers will be on a bad swingday 7 out of 10 times and the last thing you want to do is get fitted for bad swing. Get the basics down on your swing before wasting time getting fit. Now there are those that have had the same swing forever and have no desire to change it. by all means, get fitted for that swing. A good fitter will recognize serious errors in most peoples swings and highly recommend addressing them before getting fit.

wait! with the ck orange shaft one of them is the ck PRO and the other one is the normal ck so they don't compare. How can you tell on the normal CK version of the shaft?

I just want to hear from relatively consistent players with a 90mph swing speed who actually made a switch to an aftermarket shaft in real life. Is that so hard? Either the shaft companies are doing a very poor marketing job by not providing such testimonies or it simply does NOT help the vast majority of average golfers.

    • @GOLFTECLessonsFittings
      @GOLFTECLessonsFittings  2 роки тому +2

Hey Jacobel, that's a fair statement for sure. We provide a completely unbiased approach to our fitting when it comes to OEM's and their stock shafts and a few upgraded shafts. The majority of the shafts we carry are the OEM's stock options. I personally have given over a 1000 club fittings and can say sometimes there is a noticeable difference and it's up to you the consumer to decide if that extra 5-10yds of distance or 5-10 yard tighter dispersion is worth the extra $200-$300 dollars. I can't make that decision for the student and every student and their budget is different.

Wasn’t expecting responses from a year old video :) I was frustrated cuz I found no one out there giving me any definite answer but I can now conclude that yours is as close as it can get. And I appreciate it very much. Maybe I knew the answer already and just wanted to hear from a very credible source. It’s a no brainer for tour players who make a living off of their tools but for me, it’s about a grand to burn (new driver + shaft + fitting). A tough decision for the 5-10 yd improvement. But then again, I spend thousands on my watches just to feel good so why not?

I just got the Ventus Red in a TSR2 and I swing at 95mph…..I was consistently carrying around 210-215m (230-240yds) with very consistent misses and a much tighter dispersion. My fitter tried me in 3 stock shafts and I asked to try an aftermarket. As soon as he put the ventus in the feel improved and my numbers were more consistent….if I was on a budget I could have definitely made a stock shaft work…yep….but the better feel and consistency was worth the extra money to me
