Like to hear further comments about arm extention after contact. He touched on it in a previous video and it's worth revisiting in depth.

I looked up "Backswing too Far Inside" and found this. Great lesson! I have the opposite issue of coming too far inside and then looping up and coming over the top on the down swing. I fight with keeping the fade to a minimum.

Hey Jeremy, when you say too far inside are you referring to your hands or the clubhead? Many student think they take the club back too far to the inside but there hands don't move inside far enough and they are just flipping the club back behind them. Look close at your hands the next time you see your swing on video

I believe I have the same issue, except I’m getting the club head square at impact so my miss is a dead pull, but my strike is usually really pure so the ball literally flies 100 yards into the woods. lol.
I have figured out that if I backswing outside like Furyk I hit straighter. I have to be coming over the top. My leftward divots and consistent pull miss are indicative of over the top, but it feels like I’m attacking feom way inside. Feel vs real is terrible for me.

@@jordangourley3955if you’re pulling too far inside to the inside with your hands it often leads to a flailing right elbow at the top of the backswing as a right handed hitter.
This then often leads to coming over the top so you can sync up your timing with your hips because you have to catch up with your hands from overextending the trail arm and getting too much separation from your body.
Some of the best players do this to a lesser degree but they utilize it by “squatting” into contact for increased leverage. I believe Scheffler and Hovland do this but it’s a pretty violent body movement and takes a ton of flexibility, speed, and lower half stability while “squatting” into contact to be consistent with. Hovland has a weird backswing where he starts wide and gets very steep very quick but Scheffler has a much more consistent arc and gets very wide for a tour pro at the top. Scottie compensates at contact by releasing his front foot to get extra hip clearance and a that’s what people call the “Scheffler shuffle”

Best video I have seen on this subject. I also struggle with inside and closed takeaway. Simple but effective 👍🏼

Thanks for the great video. How far is too far inside for those of us who are trying to stop slicing? I find when I hinge my wrist and keep the clubhead outside, I tend to hit steeper shots vs. rolling inside on the takeaway.

Hard to say without seeing it but if you're still struggling with shots slicing the first place to start would be your grip and wrist bends. Get that face shut until you start seeing more pulls then we can work on moving that path.

When you get the club too far inside like that, can that cause a steep downswing?

    • @GOLFTECLessonsFittings

It depends on how it got there. If the hands stay out in front of you and you simply "flip" or "roll" the club behind you then it can. If you take the club back inside but with an exaggerated hand path to the inside then you are far less likely to.

Is it a result of wrong waggling at setup, the left wrist out and club face in?

    • @GOLFTECLessonsFittings

A waggle can encourage a feel at the start of the swing but you can't really say it's the lead culprit.

The takeaway is one of the more underrated parts of the swing. I have the same issue of taking the club too much inside.

When you learn the concept of swinging the entire club and not just the clubhead everything including the takeaway will make more sense. People whos focus is on placing the clubhead on the ball generally fail at golf and often have a very inside takeaway. You need to be swinging the entire club shaft away at an even pace with the grip. Just my opinion.
