Great effort dude. As a 100kg rider myself, I can appreciate the effort required in Zwift. Congratulation on the 4th place finish in D myself dude!

Just come across this, I stated on zwift at 95kg, now 71kg. You should take advantage of your weight and cardiovascular flexibility to throw down a savage sprint when you're 100m from the finish. You may find you do better in crit races because they are shorter punchy races. Great effort regardless you should be proud :)

just bc he weighs more dont mean he can sprint...

hey mate, I can see you're starting out riding, so have a think about this: Caleb Ewan weighs 67kg, yet his power numbers are 1000+ watts in the sprints, so being 'heavy' is not what its about, its 'watts per kg' produced. Likewise your FTP raw numbers are not the figure you want its the ftp watts per kg. So if you're 100kg and your ftp is: 254, that's 2.5 watts per kg. so remembering that cycling is an endurance sport, so 2.5 over an hour well the pros are up around 5+, average trained rider maybe 3.5+ (that's me). Of course there's 20 second tests for power but ultimately you want to make more power per kg, easiest way (once you get your cardio up to a good level) is to drop KGs. that should be your focus if you want to improve as that's much easier that trying to make more raw power. At this stage forget about races, focus on building base (do zone 2 heart rate 1.5-2 hour rides on zwift) and getting your nutrition under control. you'll love the journey cycling takes you on. good luck. have fun mate.

Yes, you're right. My focus at the moment is definitely to work on my weight, and to focus on the long rides to improve my cardio. Thanks for the advice!

@@JMower good answer ;) Started on the same journey as you 2 days ago. I used to be able to push out 220-230 W for 45 mins (at ~80kg), did my first testrun 2 days ago and got to 160W over 22 mins and almost fell off the bike :D Also currently at 94kg so long way to go...

@@JMower hey mate, what I did was fasting but of course we still have to be able to exercise with energy, so its called sleep low protocol. Look up the youtube titled The Step Test!! (Part 2) maven
The trick is to do a ride for say 1 hour around late pm, then minimize your food intake and you sleep/fast. works brilliantly and is a healthy way to drop weight. think of it as a 3 month commitment. get some sis rego as a recovery drink and just keep your eating simple, obviously no alcohol, chocolates etc, basically eat lowGI foods. muesli, fruit/veg, lean meat. eat normal then after ride, maybe have a milo or a piece of fruit if hungry but must keep it to a minimum. It takes about 3 weeks for weight loss to kick in. don't forget to drink water through the day. have the recovery drink post ride as well. so you'll have your nutrition covered but 'no' dinner.

@@JMower If your goal is just to have fun, then do whatever you want. If your goal is to become more fit, healthier, then definetly do easier "base" rides like he described. Low Heartrate and easy longer efforts. That will build your fitness miuch faster and keep you feeling strong, rather than tired.

hi there, some great efforts you have here bud. Keep going. If i may have some suggestions: While going down the steeps, please keep paddling on lower gears and don't stop completely. Secondly would suggest to go for some recovery rides, as the cardiovascular system , most importantly the atriums (the upper chambers of the heart) need to go through some tremendous strain during such volume overloads due to very high heart rates. As in beginner cyclists the heart is not accommodated to such high intensity exertion, it leads to dilation of the chambers and thus making way for rhythm disorders. So strengthening those walls by staying in zone 2 is a great reward. Once again all the best and keep training.

      @JMower  2 роки тому +1

Thanks for the advice! I do some easier rides during the week, and save my high intensity stuff for the races. I was quite into running before, so my cardio isn't too bad.

Good job. I'd suggest you do shorter distance races when still new as you'll be able to have more fun riding in packs using your bursts of speeds, rather than riding mostly solo like you did here where a lot rests on being able to ride a sustained even pace.

Congrats on the massive increase in FTP. Doesn't matter why at this point. You did it. When I youtube Zwift race, I do similar to you except via voice over. I use the apple TV and have not figured out how to record from the TV (I use my GoPro).

You have good potential mate. Clearly, you are a sprinter and you can raise your HR pretty easily to get power down.
You made a mistake by attacking Jean Michel so early in the race. It was a pointless move at this stage. Short bursts of power like those will kill you much faster than what you would achieve which was literally nothing 7k in.
Being heavy you should have save your power and just kept him within reach waiting for the downhill section.
Note that the supertuck is not a good race strategy unless you are in a peloton drafting each other. A rider pedaling moderately will beat any supertuck guy ahead of him. Jean Michel literally lost no time to you and he was putting some easy 2.3 watts keeping you in check despite the probably considerable weight difference.
Races with so little riders in your category will be boring. Group rides are much more fun as they gather hundreds of riders who allegedly are there for some easy group riding but as soon as it starts half of them are gone full power. You will always get multiple groups hanging together and chasing each other.
It's a much more fun way to start zwifting until you get fitter.
I believe you could reach cat C in 3 months time.
