I have a suggestion that might be helpful. I don't know if I can explain it in a way that makes sense or not. One thing you might try in terms of finding something to sit the heater on that won't be affected by the heat is this. If you go to Lowe's or Home Depot, you can find these large ceramic tiles that are made for making (I guess) tile floors or tile walls. They are large enough to sit the heater on and they don't burn. I use them in my bedroom to sit hot pots and pans on and anything else that's too hot to sit on any other surface. They're also really cheap. Like $3 each or something.
I have the tall skinny Hcalory (they're all basically the same) version that was a hand-me-down from my friends at Big Rock Overland, and I'm super happy with it. It runs off of my Jackery 500 with no issues. I kinda hate the term "game changer", but they really are. Even my wife is down for winter camping now, and she hates the cold.
Here’s a big mistake you’re making. Your exhaust pipe needs to be aimed down around 30 degrees minimum. The muffler on the end has a small hole on one side to let water out. The hole needs to be on the bottom facing the ground. Over time you will get error codes and it will shut off. If runs more efficient this way too and will last longer.
With a hose that long you need to go with a 4” hose vs. that 3” hose, otherwise it causes too much back pressure and the unit overheats. See Ozark Overland video on this.
That's the very heater that I had in my Amz cart. But I've removed it. Long story short, there's a lot of very bad reviews, both on Amz and their own Canada site! Reviews are about their seriously poor, sketchy support, refusal to help and problems with new heaters sent to people. There's more, but the stupid YT algo seems to like to delete my comments if they're too long. That company needs to do better.
*UPDATE TO THIS...* This morning I received a message from the seller of this Vevor heater, about shipping and even though, they have a presence right here, close to me, they "can't guarantee to ship via Canada Post* even though the strike is over. They just lost a sale and future customer! I do not deal with companies with such bad service and support. My $$$ can be used elsewhere! I've also read a lot of seriously negative reviews, both on Amaz. and their own website!!! It's not looking good. Their customer support is horrible and for some reason, what used to be considered a great product, may be going through some quality issues! Besides Vevor support being uncooperative, there are a lot of complaints about heaters arriving that either, don't work out of the box or work for a few hours and just stop. People reach out to support and have to play the email email who's got the email game for weeks and they still don't get proper support, most of the time. I've removed the heater and will NOT deal with such a company.
With low-priced equipment, you always have to modify it to fit your needs. You would rather buy 10 of this than just 1 expensive one. It's better to have at least one same cheap backup than none at all. Maintenance is the key to the gears that you used. I love compactness and low prices! You get more bang for your bucks! (Shameless plug!)😆😆😆
I would consider a heater if I were to camp in extreme cold often. As will all equipment. I prefer to do without rather than buy low quality gear. I’m not wealthy. But I’d rather save and buy high quality over having to purchase something over and over.
In semi trucks always had Webasto brand heater, never heard about them giving any dangerous issues....same as engine heaters...and they are right under your bed. For camping i go with Vevor, they work very well, but do i trust it? NO, its set outside and paired with CO2 detector inside. All those chinese heaters are basically perfect copy of Webasto heaters, just made with chinesium materials.
Might want to add a Diesel fuel filter between the tank and the pump. Make sure is is for Diesel. Gas filters do not separate out water. and can't handle the extra contaminants in diesel. The gas filter will work for a short time before failing.
I just bought one of these, haven't tested it yet. I did notice that your heater didn't have a protective covering that goes over the exhaust pipe like mine has?
I have 2-5k vevor heaters, 1 that heats my home and 1 that heats my insulated garage/shop. Second winter season and a few minor complaints, noise of the pump and the suppled rubber gasket off gases and deteriorates from manifold heat, my remedy is replacing with a silicone gasket👍
Great Video.......... Just a note that I didn't see anything said on the small hole that's on the muffler. That hole is a drain for "condensation" and the muffler needs to be setting horizontal so that the condensation drips out. I saw that you had the muffler in an upright position and that would not let the condensation drip out. Just a helpful note. Take Care........ Steve
These diesel heaters are used all over Alaska, and in the midwest. They are safe unless you are without common sense. We have a few each year who carbon monoxide themselves... In the news it's always some type or style of propane sunflower heaters. This style of heater was patented in 1960s-1970s. The patents expired. Same technology just Chinesium made.
I agree with Tim from MoBang the cost and ability to make improvements that probably cost minimal compared to the high price units. I have the lower vevor and its in the closet - the mini van ran out of space but its definatley a option in the future of longer winter trips where its cold. Excellent tips for camping from like minded - thanks Pat Noonan Liberty,Sc
The 2024 model is nice! no ticking, No bottom exhaust no intake tube and a CO detector with auto shut off (still wouldn't completely trust their CO detector).
But on that new model, isn't it true that they no longer have the air filter intake for the combustion chamber? Isn't it just taking in air from the vents in the box itself? If so, then if mounted inside, that thing creates a negative pressure situation, which of course could bring in cold air from any cracks and such. Don't they refer to those types as "one hose " or "one tube"?? something like that.
$1000.00 for a diesel heater is really really ridiculous. Why can’t America make a safe reliable diesel heater for $350.00? It’s outrageous. There’s almost no moving parts and nothing to break. Why?
Because Americans want to buy cheap things while we make great money and that doesn't work. It's not the government forcing or incentivizing companies to move production offshore. They don't need any encouragement. The goal for any company is to reduce costs and increase profits. Period.
This is the best heater that they have on the market. Use some extensions stop complaining this is number one. I bought three of them at one time just get some extension hoses.
I might be inclined to buy the vevor! No guarantee an expensive one won’t break down. Seen it many times on UA-cam. Can definitely afford to replace this one if it dies. Maybe not the expensive one
You said “one thing I want to “iterate.” The word you want in this case is “emphasize.” Iterate means something completely different than your intended message.
Puts 16 foot flex pipe on heater. Gets cold air out the end 😅. Common sense would say ALL heat is lost in that pipe... All you did is make a radiator for the squirrel's

You could always use the old exhaust pipe as the intake pipe, seeing as you got a new one..

just what i was gonna say.... it will collect water in that pipe.

Same with the exhaust hose.
I have the Hcalory 8kw heater. No issues. Mounted on the back of my cabin with heater hose coming into the cabin.
I see you drive a Jeep you don't seem to care too much about safety
Check the temperature rating for your extension hose. Usually well below the output temperature of the teater.

Combustion chamber air intake.
