Used to only buy Alienware and I never really considered other brands for the longest time because before the Alienware, I owned acer.. Alienware felt so premium that I naïvely thought it couldn’t get much better in terms of performance and quality. I was so wrong when I bought my first 5i pro 2 years ago and just recently snagging a deal on the pro 7. The 7945hx is a pure desktop contender and the laptop 4080 absolutely melts games with ultra and Raytracing on with the display it is paired with. The 4080 notebook is definitely 4K capable as well assuming you aren’t going to use raytracing at that resolution. Also, the AMD processors are just as good if not better than the intel counterparts at a better price. I chose not to go intel this time around and I have not noticed a single real world difference between the two brands.
I wanted to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals to snag one, but B&H had a sale with the 4090 version for $2,500 so I couldn't resist. I seriously doubt that even the best deals in Late November will be much less money.
Love how they went back to the charcoal keycaps instead of the black from the Gen 8 that made it look cheap (like the Pro 5i). Also like how X-Rite is incorporated this way with better colour profiles too. Hope for Gen 10 they shift to no plastic (keyboard deck being plastic, plastic shrouds on the vests and the plastic trackpad is just horrible). That will have me upgrade from my Gen 8.
You said that its LM on the GPU...but its only on the CPU like last Gen and only on the Intel Version. Last Gen AMD had no LM at all....which is great tbh since easier to repaste. LM or not...these either way get pretty hot. Great Review as always ❤
I just have one question and would appreciate it if you could provide a response. I am thinking of buying this laptop, 4080 or 4090. I have a laptop to which I have connected two monitors. The first monitor is connected to the HDMI port on the laptop, which is mapped to the Nvidia card. The second screen is connected to the Type C port on the laptop, but it's powered by the integrated card rather than the Nvidia card. My question is whether the laptop would have the Nvidia 4080 / 4090 to allow the second monitor to run off the available Type C or Thunderbolt ports or if those ports will be mapped to the Intel integrated graphic card. Thanks in advance
I’m thinking about getting this. Has anyone had any software issues or issues with windows? Asking because I had to return my Alienware 18 because of it crashing and i hadn’t even installed games on it 😢
I orderd same one on the review, it's beast no issue with Win even I upgraded ram capacity from 32 to 64aGB and speed downgrade from 56200 to 5200 still not bad and so fast, but my only concern is during playing it becoming so so warm it's hot especially the middle area of the keyboard, therefore I used controller instead because it wasn't comfortable to use keyboard with the heat spot , and to be honest maybe I am thinking to return the laptop 😢😢😢
Why the decision not to use Liquid Metal on both GPU and CPU? Is there a benefit to the other thermal compound specifically for the CPU? I just received this laptop and so far it’s been very nice. GPU temps are always great. CPU never goes above 92. Would Liquid Metal have made a difference for the better ? I don’t know much about this, so your insight would be appreciated.
In my experience yes it does make a significant difference just apply the right amount, it takes very little to cover the heatsink so research beforehand if you decide to do it!
I have a question I need an opinion on. I currently have a MSI GP78HX. Comes with a i9 14900hx and 4080. This is a powerful beast but the problems I have with it are the cooling, fan profiles and backlight bleed. I bought the Legion in this video and will probably arrive next week. The only thing I see what my current MSI has over the Legion is the aluminum keyboard deck and glass trackpad. Glass trackpad is kind of neglible for me since I almost always use a wireless mouse but I'm concerned about the plastic vs. metal keyboard deck. Anyone with experience in both has some insights for me so I know what to expect when it arrives? Will extensively compare the two next week of course. Any insights would be helpful!
Can you compare the Legion Slim 5 with the Lenovo Loq AMD that has the same config? I want to know if the Slim 5 is actually spending 200USD more on for the exact same specs you yet on the Loq.
Ho Tech guy! One question I am deciding buying the pro 7i 2024 intel 4080 but I am also considering Asus rog strix 18” intel 4080 2024. Which would you recommend me? Got to choose one in 5 hours. Please help me!
95C CPU temperature in game is not ideal, i think. Considering only ~25% of usage. Have you tried to put the laptop on an angle? I usually use the power brick for that, leaving a bit of space between the desk and the laptop
I alway game on an angle. And you cannot think of cpu temps on these AMD CPUs like Intel They always boost to max temp, then just sit there; this doesn’t work to throttle like in an Intel chip, rather it ensure max performance always Strange design, but that’s specifically how they were designed
Hi. I'm thinking about buying this exact same gen 9 laptop. Because Lenovo won't respond to my email, do you mind answering these 7 questions? Question 1) This generation 9 model, is the TGP 175W? Question 2) On the Lenovo website, it mentions that this laptop has low blue light. What do you know about this? I can't find any detailed information about this other than it comes with low blue light. How does this differ from an OLED display, I wonder? I would like to know which display gives off the least amount of blue light. Question 3) I have an issue with Wi-Fi. When it comes to this genotoxic Wi-Fi technology, just when you think it's been turned off, it's still blasting away in the background. If I am unable to turn off the Wi-Fi in settings, do you know if it's possible to remove the Wi-Fi chip and bluetooth? Question 4) When you received the laptop in the mail, besides the power cable, does the laptop come with any additional cables to connect an external monitor? I will be buying a monitor which I haven't gotten around to researching yet. Please let me know here or in a future video which are the best cables to hook up, and what would make for an all-time best gaming monitor that is most compatible with this laptop? Question 5) Finding the right OLED monitor or TV is crucial considering that the laptop will always sit 3 metres away from me, and be hooked up to either the TV or a 32" gaming monitor. Everything will be wired, the mouse, keyboard and ethernet. My question, if I were to buy a thousand dollar OLED monitor or an OLED TV, do you know whether or not that would also cancel out the blue light emanating from the laptop? Question 6) I will be buying this laptop for the sole purpose of playing the Riven remake which is due for release in a few days and Age of Empires I-IV. Is this laptop too powerful, or not powerful enough to handle these games at the highest settings? Question 7) What's the difference between the gen 8 and gen 9 version of this laptop? I'm assuming gen 9 is more powerful thanks to the cpu upgrade, but what else? I'm a little confused. One website sells a 1TB SSD, while another website sells a 2TB SSD. Half the time I don't know if I'm looking at the same make and model. Today is day 9 of me researching the best gaming laptop to buy. Please bear with me, I am quickly trying to learn as much as possible about this gaming laptop before forking out all this money during this end of financial year sale. I'm not very computer savvy. I'm still running this Windows 8.1, 15-yr-old HP Envy laptop. I would think now would be a good time for a serious upgrade. What do you reckon? Ha-ha. 🙂
I can't answer every question but I'll do my best. 1: Yes the GPU TDP of this specific model should be 150 Watts plus an additional 25 Watts dynamic boost. Not sure how much the CPU has but combined should be something about 230 Watts 3: I am not sure what you mean by this but yes you can physically remove the Wifi chip which is also the bluetooth chip at the same time 4: In my experience, laptops do not come with HDMI or thunderbolt cables to connect to external monitors. Those cables should come with the monitors you purchase themselves or you'd have to buy them seperately yourself. 5: I'm not so sure about what effects blue lights have on people besides making them feel less tired or something. But you can make it so that your screen is only broadcast from your second you have connected by pressing windows key + p, where you can choose: second screen only. You can press it right now to see the options. 6: If this laptop with the 14900hx and 4090 mobile GPU can't run a game, you would be hard pressed to find a system that can. Pretty confident that this laptop should be able to run everything on high/ultra settings for years to come. 7: It should still be practically the same besides the upgraded cpu and gpu. The color on the keyboard deck is a bit darker, the screen quality got improved a bit (from 78% DCI-P3 in the 2023 model to 100% DCI-P3 in the 2024 model) and a bit less keyboard deck flex compared to last years model. I also decided I hate money and bought the 4090 version which should arrive next week since I found it on discount on their website. This should last for at least 5 years, coupled with cleaning it regularly. Hope I helped you with these answers. Cheers!
Thanks for that. That was very helpful. I received the laptop several days ago. I can't believe how beautiful this thing looks. I have never owned anything like it. Because I'm in a time crunch to get a project completed, and can't keep people waiting too long, I still haven't found the time to switch on the laptop and install Windows 11. Every little break I get, I've been researching what would make for the perfect gaming monitor or TV to play Riven and Age of Empires. One last question I'm not sure about: The laptop has a 2k resolution (2560 X 1600). If I was to buy a 4k gaming monitor, would I expect to receive higher graphics from these games through the monitor than what the laptop itself can generate? In other words: Would buying a high quality 4k or 8k gaming monitor enhance the graphics beyond what the laptop can produce? Would I be wasting my money buying an 8k monitor for this laptop, I wonder? I'm thinking about buying a gaming monitor mainly because they don't connect to Wi-Fi. There's a lot of information circulating around the net on the dangers of wireless radiation. Whether true or not, I don't want to take that risk on my health. I also want to find an OLED monitor that produces the least amount of blue light, as too much blue light can not only lead to eye strain and vision problems, but it can also mess with your circadian rhythms and sleep / wake cycle. My research thus far is pushing me towards buying a 4K OLED BenQ gaming monitor. It is only early days yet. I not only want to find the perfect monitor for gaming, but I also need it for watching movies via my PlayStation 3, surfing the net and reading emails, etc. The laptop will always be connected to the monitor 3 metres away from where I sit. Everything will be done through the monitor via a wired Lenovo Legion keyboard while the laptop remains closed. As you can see, I've got a lot to research. Right now I can see myself spending the next 30 days clicking on every single gaming monitor and gaming TV selling in Australia in order to find the perfect setup that ticks all my boxes. More work to get through. Great! Just what I need. Ha-ha.
@@AzuraFire22 You're welcome and from what I know is that a 4k monitor should not be a problem for the mobile 4090. I am not sure about an 8k monitor though. OLED is the most expensive but most accurate display there is at the moment.

Hey I just got this laptop the 4090 version but i just wanted to ask does it over heat when playing games like Red dead redemption,Elden ring,Minecraft or even Roblox?
These laptops will not overheat regardless of what you do, unless you perhaps put it on a blanket. If they get too hot they will just throttle naturally anyways They are quite powerful so even when they throttle slightly you will still get exceptionally good performance. However the Legion has very good cooling, especially for its class of laptop

There intel chips are notorious for using excessive wattages with simple tasks. Great for absolute power but and is super for efficiency. Just different options
@@TechGuyBeau But isn't video playback a simpler task than those for productivity? All GPUs have hardware acceleration for video playback, so it should use a little integrated graphics and not much CPU. Productivity tasks can vary a lot, though. E.g., multitasking with complicated office files (e.g., PowerPoint slides with a lot of objects and animations) uses more resources than typing something simple in Word.

Hope for Gen 10 they shift to no plastic (keyboard deck being plastic, plastic shrouds on the vests and the plastic trackpad is just horrible). That will have me upgrade from my Gen 8.
Yeah the charcoal is way better thank pure black for fingerprints
Basically this laptop can do anything!
I love my Lenovo
Can you please tell HOws the keyboard palm rest area temperature while gaming or load? Is there any video of yours testing the temperature etc?
The heat is primarily at the back behind the keyboard
Hi - great review! I am thinking now of getting one - can you please help me understand if internal surface (e.g., palm rest) is plastic or metal?
yes, can anyone confirm this, please?
Keyboard deck and touchpad all plastic

Could you review legion 5i pro i7-14700hx with RTX 4060 as well please? Thinking about getting one but not able to find any good reviews of that.
Ive already recorded my review of this laptop :)
I’ll be publishing soon.
One more check and I can finally buy this beauty

@@muhannddh oh wow that hot, hmm maybe I’ll probably look at more laptops then, thanks for the specs.
In my experience yes it does make a significant difference just apply the right amount, it takes very little to cover the heatsink so research beforehand if you decide to do it!
one day this pc i will be mine one day
I have a question I need an opinion on.
I’ve had the same msi chassis but with a 4080. It was okay. Nothing special. I prefer the legion’s chassis
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks for your reply! Can't wait to try out the Legion. UPS has it now and it will be here by wednesday!
Can you compare the Legion Slim 5 with the Lenovo Loq AMD that has the same config? I want to know if the Slim 5 is actually spending 200USD more on for the exact same specs you yet on the Loq.
This is pretty cool but I’m considering between this and one of the new snapdragon laptops that will come out
Ho Tech guy! One question I am deciding buying the pro 7i 2024 intel 4080 but I am also considering Asus rog strix 18” intel 4080 2024.
Which would you recommend me? Got to choose one in 5 hours.
Please help me!
I’m probably late, but 18” is VERY large. Possibly too large. Otherwise they are both good
I've ordered this laptop last thursday from the link that u provided and im excited about it
watching here from Australia
Hell yeah, you’re gonna love it. Also thanks for using the links :)
@@TechGuyBeau hope there is no issue on it
Isn't it liquid metal on the CPU and PTM on the GPU? Also, do you prefer the Intel-variant or the AMD-variant?
I’d avoid intel right now…
Mine is coming in a few weeks. Your CPU temps are very high. Is it throttling at all?
95C CPU temperature in game is not ideal, i think. Considering only ~25% of usage.
Have you tried to put the laptop on an angle? I usually use the power brick for that, leaving a bit of space between the desk and the laptop
I alway game on an angle. And you cannot think of cpu temps on these AMD CPUs like Intel
They always boost to max temp, then just sit there; this doesn’t work to throttle like in an Intel chip, rather it ensure max performance always
Strange design, but that’s specifically how they were designed
Not sure how much the CPU has but combined should be something about 230 Watts
3: I am not sure what you mean by this but yes you can physically remove the Wifi chip which is also the bluetooth chip at the same time
4: In my experience, laptops do not come with HDMI or thunderbolt cables to connect to external monitors.

If they get too hot they will just throttle naturally anyways
They are quite powerful so even when they throttle slightly you will still get exceptionally good performance. However the Legion has very good cooling, especially for its class of laptop
For those games you can run it on balanced mode and use half the power and still get amazing performance. Except for elden ring
hello I have a legion 5 pro ryzen 7 7745hx and rtx 4070..do you use a cooling pad for your legion laptop while gaming..and if I keep me laptop fans on 100% just while gaming is that fine..
You don’t need one assuming your raise the back… that being said I tested a llano pad on my channel, it was very good
Perhaps check out that review. I used it on a legion 7 slim for testing
@@TechGuyBeau yes raising the back reduces the temps quite well. Are you able to turn on gsync in hybrid gpu mode.

I found your video cuz right now on the lenovo website i can get this exact laptop for 25% off so i save about 1200 CAD. Would you say its a no brainer with the specs of this laptop and the price compared to other similar gaming laptops??
That price is straight up crazy good
16:31 The battery lasts 6-8 hrs for productivity but only 4 hrs with UA-cam? There must be something wrong there
There intel chips are notorious for using excessive wattages with simple tasks.
Can you actually upgrade this to 64gb ram?

How is the display compared to the 9i gen 9?
Legion 9i is a mini led. They are both superb, I’d give a slight edge to the legion 9, but both are legitimately fantastic
Cpu temp seems high while gaming. Would like to see if you can undervolt and OC it to get better temps and performance
You can undervolt yes, but I always test at stock
This and last year's get get hot. I heard this year even more so. I undervolted last year's and it still goes up to like 90 sometimes
Is the mobile intel 13 and 14 gen making headlines of frying gpu?
I don’t think so. Laptops have extremely strict power allocation plans.

Yes
So this or the 7i 2024?
That what i think, too....
If you want portability and all metal chassis (and thinner) 7i. It’s not as performant as this, even the CPU itself.
So:
1. Performance - 7i pro
2 . Portability and all metal - 7i
Notebookcheck wrote in its review 7pro has Aluminum metal chassis
I’ve ordered the pro 7i with 4080
I want Gen 10 to be all-metal, fingerprint scanner, and rear-lighted I/O.
Seems like they are segmenting the 7 and 9 now. But I’d like the 7 to get the 2022 features for sure
The split it into cheaper but powerful 7i and then 9i for all those features but super expensive
16:00 wowzers that's a high score
Right??
