There's a fascinating contrast with Deep Rock Galactic here. Because mechanically they're doing 'almost' identical things. Four players, battling bugs, racing to extraction having kicked the hornets nest. But Helldivers feels like it's delivering so much more, through great presentation. A bombastic soundtrack to make a simple mission end feel like the most important moment of your democracy-loving life.
Helldivers to me us a combination of deep rock and earth defence force combined with the feeling as your missions actually doing more then just exp gain and your actually working toward a community goal instead of just a battlepass
This track playing as your whole squad fights against overwhelming odds is just *chef's kiss*. And when you successfully extract by the skin of your teeth? Oh, man. Phenomenal game.
Me and the boys tried out first extreme mission and our extraction was a nonstop uphill fight that only ended with 2 of us extracting. Easily the hypest shit I’ve done in a game in years
Yesterday my group accidentally started a difficulty 4 mission against robots. It was our first time playing against them, and we didn't realize the difficulty had increased. We were level 5 at most, though two of us were level 2. We managed to complete the objectives, but by the time we reached the extraction zone we had something like 20 seconds left. We spammed turret and mines, and got ready for a rough extraction without orbital support. All of us made it. It was a great day for democracy.
We need a "objective:survive" type of mission where if you miss extraction you make a last stand against the enemy and the more you kill the better the rewards
Aaaaahhh. Now this makes sense. It does have some destiny in this track. I wouldn't call it the best though. This and the mission drop theme seem the best though out of the ost. They need to bring back the old hell divers theme songs though.
The drop after 2:40 is godly. Had it when i was frantically running up the hill to the dropship, as i had just been blown off the extraction by a RPG bot. Taking hits left and right, desperatlly spraying my machine pistol backwards as the chainsaw bots closed in. Made it into the dropship where my fellow helldivers sat, on flashing health zero stims and a full heart of LIBERTY FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY!
My friend i joined today had the Eagle 500kg bomb unlocked. I felt like a kid watching my first michael bay film when i saw that thing go off. Absolutely crisp gun play and explosion visuals
Reminds me of the mission where all the enemies were coming from one direction, so at the 30s to extract mark we all popped our 380mm strikes in that direction... I'm pretty sure I commented that "Michael Bay would be proud." at the time
Endless waves of enemies coming for you and the squad, no responds left, everything is on a cooldown, just a few bullets left in each gun making every shot count, this song is blasting in background and just as all hope seems to be gone the extraction ship shows up and everybody makes it on and you get the hell out of there! Moments like these are why I love Helldivers 2 so much.
Was playing with a squad of randos yesterday, two of them left halfway through so it was just me and this other guy. The two randoms at the start had used most of our reinforcements cause they were pretty underleveled so we were left with none, though we had a decent amount of time left. We went through the rest of the mission without much difficulty but when we went to extract it all went ass over tits. We got swarmed by the automatons, and just as the shuttle landed and we prepared to run to safety my squadmate fell to the endless waves of bots with reinforcements on cooldown. At this point I was low on everything but he had been playing well so I didn't wanna leave without him. What followed were the most intense 90 seconds of my life as I dolphin dove across the extraction zone, calling in stratagems left and right until I was able to call him back in. Unfortunately, I died right as he landed as I was out of stims and absolutely swarmed by automatons, with a hulk breathing down my neck which made it impossible for me to stop and reload my autocannon. I thought my teammate was gonna extract without me which I was fine with, but the madlad called in his support weapon and extra supplies and held out those two minutes until I got back, at which point we booked it towards the shuttle and managed to escape to safety. During all of that this theme was blaring in the background, which made for the most cinematic helldivers game I have ever played. My game may have crashed during the next mission but man it was glorious while it lasted.
“Sir the automatons are advancing too rapidly!” Pelican 1: that’s right and those helldivers are caught right in the middle of it “Sir the machines will shoot you down before you reach the LZ!” Pelican 1: “then I’ll see you in hell!”
It makes me so damn happy. It's 2024 and we finally have a good game to play. It's as if a long dead cousin just resurrected and we can finally go to Timezone together again. Helldivers 2 is my GOTY.
I'll be honest, I thought they were gonna f*ck up this new extraction theme but its actually still really damn epic and fits very well. Still makes me want to yell FREEEEEEEDOOOOOOM!!!
Idk, why, but I wasn't really expecting to be swarmed at the extract when I played my first dive. Seeing Pelican-1 drop out of the clouds and open up on the bugs with his cannons was quite a relief. Reminded me when those SWCC boats showed up with their miniguns in Act of Valor.
Contrary to some others I've spoken with, I actually enjoy this theme just as much as the original game's extraction theme, just in a different way. The original was loud and thumpy while still remaining measured and proud, like a marching band's anthem. It fit super well with the original game's more silly aspects while still marking a mission well accomplished. This theme, however, seems to convey a more serious, almost desperate level of aggression. Acting like a spring being wound up, it purposefully heightens the tension and pressure as you fight off the hostiles surrounding the extraction zone before finally releasing it all at once with HD2's main theme acting as a release valve when the pelican finally lifts off for home. This feels just as good to me because it pairs so well with HD2's more intense, close-and-personal perspective shift, which emphasizes the moment to moment action so much more than the original did.
Idk i hated the first extract theme because I always liked the mission theme a lot more and it always plays over the mission theme so whenever I extracted I made sure it was in stealth
I think if it referenced the first them just a little bit it would satiate people. I like both just like you so idc but it would he cool to hear a little of the og helldivers in there ya know
2:15 I pretty always see myself and my fellow Helldivers running around in circles triying to decide whether to fight the rest of the bugs/bots or get in the ship, or just simply run around in circles for no good reason, which is still a good reason to run around in circles for no good reason.
They timed up the extraction perfectly with this part of the song.1:49-1:55 plays as everyone is anticipating the pelican to fly down as the timer reaches 10 seconds. 1:56-2:02 plays as the pelican is flying down to the ground. This is also where the music switches from suspenseful to relief. 2:03-2:15 plays as the pelican SLOOOOWLY inches towards the ground. The music here goes back to suspenseful as now everyone who’s next to the Lz has realized that they still have to hold their ground for the pelican to reach the ground. 2:16-2:27 plays as the doors open and subsequently everyone scrambles to get inside. This is when the violins or whatever string instruments start playing a suspenseful screeching sound to promote unease in the players, making them want to get inside. The music after this switches to the ship leaving music that isn’t present in this video I think but it’s very reassuring and righteous sounding.
The music after 2:27 is for higher difficulties when the extraction timings are longer than 2 minutes. Notice how at 2:42, the music becomes so heroic as everyone is supposedly holding their ground against the enemies.
After about 13h of gameplay I admit the game may have some small issues here and there that can be easly patched and added. But above all Helldivers 2 is fun

at 2.43 when the Trumpets kick, the 3-4 Bile Titans start converging on Pelican-1 and you see your friend dropping the 500KG to make that nice dramatic cut. Love to see it.
Giachinno couldn't write this, he's too one-note as a composer. Look up the RoboCop composer instead, he's dead now, but in many ways this was his signature style.
At first the after mission score system felt slow. Then I realized, it is that breather you craved while the Cyborgs relentlessly rush you during the extraction.
2:40 is where it really pops. When complex stratagem plotting modifier is on and it's a four minute extraction on Helldive difficulty, you're only basically halfway there. That's the good shit
I’m 300 meters out, stock full of super samples, Iv got the BIGGEST hoard of terminids behind me, chargers, bile spewers the whole shabang, I’m out of sprint shooting my senator behind me like cayde-6, I get flung by a stalker, ragdoll, get up, stim, and keep running. Dive and throw a grenade, BOOM, I’m almost there! Just a little further now! I get the pelican but befor I board, I empty my entire breaker incendiary mag on the hoard and dive backwards into the pelican. God I love this game.
I still remember doing a high tier mission (level 7 or 8) and being the only one left. Almost no ammo, destroyer had left. And somehow I still made it to the emergency pelican with flying bugs after me. This track will always be special to me for that.
Someone called a tesla tower right on top of the shuttle and it _launched the shuttle out of bounds for half of us so we couldn't board it._ Honestly not even angry about it, we all died laughing for like five minutes straight.
- *Rush over to Extraction Point* - *Call down a Resupply* - *Plant a minefield in a choke point* - *Call down a Sentry on a high ground* - *Start Extraction sequence* - *Pray*
Running to the far-away extract point with a horde of bugs on my tail while this song blast trough my ears gotta be one of the greatest gaming experiences i had in my whole life.
As I lift my last set a few more reps for a new PR. My muscles starting to fail slowly unable to push until this Hym of Freedom starts playing. I feel the blessing of Liberty as she blesses me more strength to go beyond for the sake of democracy.
I love when someone activates the extraction and I am far away from it, then this music kicks in. Its so dramatic running to the extraction point thinking your not gonna make it and the ship lands with 10 secs to spare!! When this track starts to play, the sweat starts to pour 😂.
ETA 30 seconds Three bile titans encroaching on the landing zone. Everyone is scrambling away from several swarms lunging at them. Stratagems unavailable. ETA 20 seconds Three bile titans within barfing distance of the landing zone. A3 goes down, trampled by charger. S4 runs out of stims. K1 is running around in desperation 100m away from the landing pad. A2 making his last stand emptying his final two mags. ETA 10 seconds Three bile titans now chasing those left alive around the landing zone. S4 goes down in a spray of mucus while struggling to stand up on some uneven terrain. K1 is making his way back to the landing zone, with only pistol ammo and one Stim left. A2 gets tongued to death and perishes honorable. Pelican 1 has visual, clear the landing zone. K1 dives, dives, dives, dives, dives, dives and dives some more. K1 takes his last stim to recover his stamina, keeps diving for DEMOCRACY! K1 gets tongued, slashed and is on his last legs, bleeding out and barely alive, dives one more time into the evac. K1 makes it out, likely bleeds out onboard the dropship. Hello everyone, I'm S4, K1 is my bestie. That was out most recent experience on Helldive difficulty. I love this game so much.
Nothing like calling in everything you got thinking your squad is not going to make it, only for the ship to land and everyone pile on. Then as you fly away you see Bile Titans walking onto the landing platform and knowing a second later and that would have been it.

ITS SO SLOW HAHA im glad you said this
This song plus the cool sound effects of the mortar sentry going off behind me just complete extractions for me
1:31 hits extra hard to get the blood pumping. "Just one last push, soldier."
hearing this theme while your extraction zone is being overrun from all sides is a different feeling
FOR SUPEREARTH
2:15 is the best part, its when the shuttle lands and its extract or die
2:40 is where it really pops. When complex stratagem plotting modifier is on and it's a four minute extraction on Helldive difficulty, you're only basically halfway there. That's the good shit
How about a nice cup of liber-tea?
I’m 300 meters out, stock full of super samples, Iv got the BIGGEST hoard of terminids behind me, chargers, bile spewers the whole shabang, I’m out of sprint shooting my senator behind me like cayde-6, I get flung by a stalker, ragdoll, get up, stim, and keep running. Dive and throw a grenade, BOOM, I’m almost there! Just a little further now! I get the pelican but befor I board, I empty my entire breaker incendiary mag on the hoard and dive backwards into the pelican.
God I love this game.
NO DIVER LEFT BEHIND !
When this kicked on I yelled “YOU CANT STOP FREEDOOOOMMM!!!!”
I still remember doing a high tier mission (level 7 or 8) and being the only one left. Almost no ammo, destroyer had left. And somehow I still made it to the emergency pelican with flying bugs after me. This track will always be special to me for that.
Injury? WHAT INJURY!?
Someone always calls in a bombardment on the extraction zone just before the end, and honestly, i can't even be mad about it. It's beautiful.
Someone called a tesla tower right on top of the shuttle and it _launched the shuttle out of bounds for half of us so we couldn't board it._
Honestly not even angry about it, we all died laughing for like five minutes straight.
In the original game it's customary to have multiple Shredder nukes lined up for impact right after the shuttle leaves haha.
Hahaha @@timothy740
@dividewalker5673 oh mannn well at least the bonus for extracting isn't that much 😂
@@timothy740 Yep. Cant leave without some shredders and/or thunderers dropping lol
- *Rush over to Extraction Point*
- *Call down a Resupply*
- *Plant a minefield in a choke point*
- *Call down a Sentry on a high ground*
- *Start Extraction sequence*
- *Pray*
That build up at the start. Fantastic. ❤
Victory was never in doubt.
Extraction theme but the bots are jamming the signal so the track gets scuffed
"Victory was never in doubt"🗣️🗣️🗣️
Running to the far-away extract point with a horde of bugs on my tail while this song blast trough my ears gotta be one of the greatest gaming experiences i had in my whole life.
As I lift my last set a few more reps for a new PR. My muscles starting to fail slowly unable to push until this Hym of Freedom starts playing. I feel the blessing of Liberty as she blesses me more strength to go beyond for the sake of democracy.
FOR FREEDOM, LIBERTY, DEMOCRACY AND SUPER EARTH!!
I love when someone activates the extraction and I am far away from it, then this music kicks in. Its so dramatic running to the extraction point thinking your not gonna make it and the ship lands with 10 secs to spare!! When this track starts to play, the sweat starts to pour 😂.
The extraction sequences are pure narrative as gameplay and they’re electrifying every time.
ETA 30 seconds
Three bile titans encroaching on the landing zone.
Everyone is scrambling away from several swarms lunging at them.
Stratagems unavailable.
ETA 20 seconds
Three bile titans within barfing distance of the landing zone.
A3 goes down, trampled by charger.
S4 runs out of stims.
K1 is running around in desperation 100m away from the landing pad.
A2 making his last stand emptying his final two mags.
ETA 10 seconds
Three bile titans now chasing those left alive around the landing zone.
This has to be one of the best themes in any video game, I love it when this music turns on and we are fighting for our lives
1:49 best part. Especially when your strategems are on cool down and youre almost out of amno.
Makes whatever you're doing in the moment have glorious purpose
Nothing like calling in everything you got thinking your squad is not going to make it, only for the ship to land and everyone pile on. Then as you fly away you see Bile Titans walking onto the landing platform and knowing a second later and that would have been it.
This is the best on emergency extract when you have to bolt for the extraction
I think this song could be use for any "extraction" moment. Like, the final minutes before delivering a project or the sort xD
I can't imagine playing helldivers 2 without the music, sets the tone so well.
I’m glad this is getting so much love. I feel the exact same way as all the rest of these comments. This game is my GOTY
I'm so glad the Helldivers chose to save the children's hospital
NOT TODAYYY!!
