Malevelon Creek, the most grueling battle of the Second Galactic War took 27 million Helldivers killed in action over the course of 2 weeks. Calypso was invaded for 2 days. *37 million Helldivers killed in action.*
Reminder that the illuminate’s may have an apocalyptic look when they arrive since we stripped them from most of their technology in the first galactic war
From what I understand they originate from outside our galaxy. And what we encountered in HD1 was like, a scouting colony just setting up shop in the milky way
Bro I'm a rookie myself and I can't keep thinking that the worst is yet to come, and the divers going on about malevelon have no idea Especially considering its likely were going to lose a LOT of ground and a lot of HARD campaigns since super earth has a liberation status
As a rookie building up my knowledge and resources who hasn't even touched Malevelon Creek. I fear for my future survival. I know that I am currently ill equipped to deal with just the bots. Let alone the illuminate.
@@quantumslime7265 the good thing about the illuminate is that they are somewhere between bugs and bots when it comes to how easy it is to take them down. Most have a shield, but if it's going to be like in helldivers 1, your trusty flamethower will ignore the shield partially, with the flame AoE dealing damage through the shield. They are also not *as* range focused as the bots, there aren't as many ranged units and will mostly melee you. There are a few troublesome things though that, despite them being between the two existing factions when it comes to tankiness, will makes them harder to face than the bots. I kid you not, Malevelon Creek will look like a playground in comparison. 1: the illuminate use hit 'n run tactics using teleportation and cloaking technology. 2: as i mentioned, they have shields. They will not be as well armored, but most of them will have a shield that requires to be shot first. 3: snipers. A common fodder they set in a lot can snipe you from a distance in combination with their ambush tactics. And this is just the tip of what they will bring to the table. Honestly though, comparing to what we got, they are a bless to fight. My favorite faction to fight in hd1 as well. The bugs are mere ferals, the bots are AI that focus on overwhelming forces. The illuminate is the only faction besides humans with a true sentience, and thus fighting them will feel like you're actually going to space vietnam and more. I'd recommend picking up the first game yourself though, trust me when i say that everything about helldivers 2 is in spirit of the first game, and it is just as fun.
@@wickerg041 Yikes. That sounds simultaneously like hell and a lot of fun. Maybe I'll take your advice and try the first game out. Especially since I'm a greenie who jumped on the hype train of HD 2. Thanks for the input.
@@quantumslime7265 no problem! And imo the best way to prepare for the illuminate is by playing the first game. Fun fact btw, in the first game the automatons are not the automatons. They were actually cyborgs with an interesting lore, humans that declared independence from super earth. It's an experience you gotta experience yourself tbh, since without helldivers 1 there would not be a 2. And so you can proudly say, "i went from hypetrain ride to full liberty enjoyer!"
This reminds me of the type of music they had in Doom eternal when you were in the sections of Urdak. Both of them have a computing technological rhythm, foreboding string and synthetic section, and the voice chorus gives off an impression of angels. All this culminates in a sense that the enemy you're facing has become so technologically advanced that they believe that they have achieved enlightenment through it.
Illuminate is more like war of the worlds with how some of the units look, both have the squid connection and the title fits what’s going on between them terminids is essentially pest control, cyborgs/automatons is more like an rebellion of people originally from super earth itself but only the illuminate is truly a clash between worlds
I love how this song just feels like the embodiment of dread and the fear of the unknown and is a complete contrast to the more heroic songs that play in the game
Every theme in Helldivers 2 has a sense of heroism and motivation. The Automaton and Terminid themes are different but they still have their intense strings and valiant horns. They perfectly illustrate that these factions are a threat but also motivate you in the fight against them. Recently, a third enemy of Super Earth has emerged, an ancient foe like no other. The Illuminate, or Squ'ith were originally aquatic lifeforms that evolved thousands of years before humanity even existed and their technology and ideology reflects this. Their tech is indiscernible from magic, being able to psychically conjure up walls and mind control people. Yet, unlike Super Earth, they have no military. They were pacifists focusing on the advancement of science and thought. 100 years ago, in the first Galactic War, Super Earth invaded them for their alleged "Weapons of Mass Destruction." In reality Super Earth was invading them for their technology. They had few volunteers and their main defense were police robots and surveillance cameras. Even with very limited military might, they were still the most formidable and difficult enemy Super Earth ever fought against. At the end of the first Galactic War, their tech was stolen, and they were presumably eradicated or exiled from the Milky Way. But now they have returned. The few Illuminate that remain are back, and different, changed by the horrors Super Earth inflicted upon them. Their elegant and flowing designs have turned grungy and brutal. Their theme is different from the rest, instead of motivating strings and horns they have horrifying synths and creepy choirs. They are no longer pacifists like before, that time has passed. They are willing to be as cruel to us as we were to them. There won't be any heroic war stories, or courageous hymns about the heroes of this war. This is Fear.
I readed some comment that it "will be some kind of dark hole fluid to destroy meridia, and after that it will be the perfect time for illuminate to strike". I think it is what will happen.
i’m calling it; before the summer is over, the illuminate will be back. Either in full force as a third faction or very rarely and quietly messing with players on other fronts
From the moment a new player like myself exited the hellpod solo in dark gloomy jungles, the music instantly set the tone to go for the stealthy approach. Sure enough, hit-and-run tactics seem to be effective at avoiding unending hordes and reinforcements. Such is the genius of the soundtrack design to set the tone of how each faction fights.
The utmost praise to the Helldivers of old who endured true Automaton combat in the creek. Picking off outposts in combat zones with sparse vegetation doesn’t do justice for what they faced. Only critiques so far are the lack of ranged explosive primaries (making the engineer kit a necessity) and the superstore having an extended sale, delaying the rotation of much needed specialist armor sets.

When these guys show up, Malevelon Creek is gonna look like a trip to Disneyland 💀 The Illuminate will certainly be our greatest foe yet, but we must be prepared. Let them come, for Super Earth depends on us all.
Of course he is, if the war is going too well, it means you are missing something big. Expect the Termicide to blow up in our faces somehow and the Bots to do a major incursion that will take everyone by surprise at the same time the Illuminate make their move. This will take all hands on deck just to stop them and even then even Super Earth will be in jeopardy.
Where Terminids music sounded like you were being chased with relentless swarms, Automatons' sounding EXTREMELY dramatic shootout with a tinge of WW2... this just sounds cold and calculated. The notes heard between giving that "You are being HUNTED" vibe and never straying to being overly noisy, more as a backdrop to remind you to stay focused. The illuminate were a right pain in the ass in HD1, and their theme there really didn't hit it with me owing to the fuckery they commit. This song here? Scares me shitless to even imagine what we'll be up against.
At this point, it's not a matter of *IF* the Illuminate return... but *WHEN.* And I can assure you, the new helldivers, me included, have NO IDEA how to face an enemy as smart as you veteran Helldivers make them out to be. Our best bet is to simply study the enemy as they study us, try and figure out what tactics, armor and weapons to employ and which stratagems will work best THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR.

Helldiver rookies proudly boasting about Creek and Draupnir. When these fish faces return, y'all be squeaking differently.
Bro I'm a rookie myself and I can't keep thinking that the worst is yet to come, and the divers going on about malevelon have no idea
Especially considering its likely were going to lose a LOT of ground and a lot of HARD campaigns since super earth has a liberation status
Rip and liberate until it is free
exactly what i thought, can't wait to fight the illuminate of sin.
All I glean from the tone of the music is that the squids are back, and they are fucking pissed.
Terminids - Starship Troopers
Automatons - Terminator 2
Illuminate - Independence Day
I knew helldivers 2 was a combination of great sci-fi action movies
Illuminate: Mass Effect, War of the Worlds, Xcom
FIghting the automatons legit feels like Kyle Reese simulator sometimes
Illuminate is more like war of the worlds with how some of the units look, both have the squid connection and the title fits what’s going on between them
terminids is essentially pest control, cyborgs/automatons is more like an rebellion of people originally from super earth itself but only the illuminate is truly a clash between worlds
Illuminate - Predator

Welcome to the frontlines rookie, be sure to grab some libertea and salute those that fell at the creek and meridia

Where Terminids music sounded like you were being chased with relentless swarms, Automatons' sounding EXTREMELY dramatic shootout with a tinge of WW2... this just sounds cold and calculated.
