Yes, there used to be a way to make a shapeshift form permanent, by abusing the long cast time of the shift. That way you could use the lesser wish scroll to get mind flayer even for blades. However they nerfed this method by making the cast instant. You can still achieve it i think via resting while shifted, sometimes it randomly bugs and gives you infinite form, however it likely will take a couple reloads, this video is kinda old, back then it was deterministic.
