I have a 2014 for over one year been in and out the repair shop for the whole year with every engine problem you can think finally took to dealership and they will replace engine thank god I’m still under warranty. You gave great knowledge on how to maintain a beast.

I bought a 2014 JGC Eco-Diesel Summit model new so I have gone through the whole emissions saga and all the recalls of this vehicle. I have about 88K miles on it and overall apart from many many recalls and 3 glow plug failures, it has been a very reliable vehicle. The performance and fuel mileage are excellent and it's capabilities as a SUV are a class above a typical SUV in this segment (especially towing). Having said that, if you do not maintain this vehicle like a fanatic, you will experience expensive issues. 5k oil changes are a must because of the EGR gases contaminating the oil as well as Fuel filters every 20k. Also DEF has gotten 300% expensive since I bought the vehicle and the DEF consumption has increased because of the new EPA approved software.
Overall I love this vehicle but this will be the last light duty Diesel for me. The additional cost of Diesel, DEF, Fuel filters, expensive oil and all the funky emissions crap is just not worth it.

Really appreciate this, I just took my 2015 Summit ED in for an oil change for $175 not even realizing I could just use the air suspension as a means to DIY. They wanted $300 to do the fuel filters but I bought the pair and necessary tools for under $50 and will keep this video in mind for my next oil change as well.

I am using 2-stroke LiquiMoly semi-synthetic oil instead of diesel additive. 300 ml (1:100) on every tank of fuel. Costs close to nothing, great lubricant, burns ash free, great for the HD pump and injectors.

Funny he mentioned his wife thought the engine is loud. I did a lot of driving for work and when it was time to get a new jeep the sales guy knew of my driving habits as this would've been my 5th jeep. I usually go for the HEMI, however he introduced me to the Summit eco-diesel. I mentioned that diesels were stinky and noisy. He lined up a new Hemi and the eco-diesel side-by-side. I was shocked that the eco-diesel was quieter and not stinky.
I'm on my third Eco-diesel now. Too bad Chrysler has discontinued these.

Hi. I just saw your video! Great video too. Mine is a 2015 ecodiesel and I use Pennzoil euro L 5w-30. There is a lot of debate out there on which oil to use but my manual says use ms-11106 approved oil and thats what I use. I got over 150k on my ecodiesel and it runs like a champ! I also change it every 5000-6000 miles.

    • @madeupname37
      @madeupname37 Рік тому

In the UK the spec is now 5W-40, I think Jeep changed the spec because a lot of the Eco-Diesels were spinning their main bearings.
The thicker oil was meant to help prevent this but it still happens.
Very impressed with your miles, many don't get to a third of that. We're selling our 2014 GJ as fed-up with reliability, cost of parts and the risk of main bearing failure. Hope yours keeps going strong.

I have a 2018 JGC with 83,000 miles with an ecodiesel. When I change the oil I drop the drain plug, and while it's draining I change the oil filter. I've never seen "2 or 3 cups" drain out after the initial drain because I'm not looking at it. I can only go by how many quarts I put back in and usually it's right at 8 quarts to hit the full mark on the dipstick with the filter removed while draining.

    Diesels only produce .5% CO
Whereas gasoline engines produce 11.% CO ( non catalyzed on both) over 20 times as much! so I would say there’s far more worse things to worry about than the diesels and a late model diesel WITHOUT all the emissions bullcrap late model diesel without the emissions runs FAR cleaner than say a diesel from the 80’s or even 90’s , their just built better, so they need to leave our diesels alone!
These emissions people are putting a bad name on the diesel engine to where 10-15 years ago they were a great engine
Bottom line is- do a emissions delete kit on your eco and you’ll be so happy you did along with your wallet
And by the way you need to get to the point or main structure of your video much sooner I stopped watching about 2 min in basically after your comment about the environment
We’ll see how you like that eco in about another 50k the emissions on that eco will cost you more than that jeep is worth all the maintenance in the world is not going to stop all the soot going back into your intake NOT getting re-burned diesels don’t work like that they combust under extreme pressure that’s why they have such a high compression ratio
Take an eye dropper of fresh diesel on a plate and put a lighter to it see what happens then do the same with a DROP of gasoline
ANYTHING they try and do with diesels as far as their primitive emissions will ALWAYS plug up and cause problems
The only thing that may work would be a type of charcoal filter at the end of the exhaust that you could replace every so often cheaply and easily all the rest of the crap is for the stealerships to get rich on all you not deleting the emissions
