There are still current-day Uyghur slaves in XinJiang, China, and in India, and Pakistan (total of about 15 million currently in those three countries)? I had a valid argument with a cell-phone company today and the first call, even with keeping a relatively firm tone, they kept telling me I was frustrated/upset/etc and I was thinking that made sense, but realized they were trying to use emotion's as an excuse... Lesson I learned was to do the very best to remove all emotion and be pure logic. Had a second call, made extra sure just to discus the facts, leaving my voice tone neutral, speaking slow and clear, and yet again, the emotion response was used and I said this is not an issue of my emotions, I was not frustrated or annoyed, but just wanted to find a resolution to a problem that I hope they could also clearly understand as I saw it.... Once they realized that I wasn't being emotional, it seemed like they realized they couldn't use emotion as an excuse. Weird to describe I guess, but point is when having a professional conversation, try to limit getting emotional and it will likely be more productive.
Pat did an outstanding job of keeping his composure. He's a very skilled interviewer, and it's easy to see why he manages to frequently have guests on his podcast who disagree with him. Unfortunately, some people will simply never be able to help carry a nuanced and engaged conversation with someone who they disagree with. We're seeing a lot more of that today. "Because I say so" is not an argument, and just shuts down any debate of a subject. The writings of Jefferson formed the basis of most modern Governments, and his achievements should not be diminished because slavery existed back then. Truscott's points have no validity, and are in fact one of the main reasons that we have such controversy and strife where there wasn't such before. If someone doesn't like a Memorial to any of our great American Presidents, don't go there. And that certainly doesn't give them the right to "replace" them because they say so. I had a valid argument with a cell-phone company today and the first call, even with keeping a relatively firm tone, they kept telling me I was frustrated/upset/etc and I was thinking that made sense, but realized they were trying to use emotion's as an excuse... Lesson I learned was to do the very best to remove all emotion and be pure logic. Had a second call, made extra sure just to discus the facts, leaving my voice tone neutral, speaking slow and clear, and yet again, the emotion response was used and I said this is not an issue of my emotions, I was not frustrated or annoyed, but just wanted to find a resolution to a problem that I hope they could also clearly understand as I saw it.... Once they realized that I wasn't being emotional, it seemed like they realized they couldn't use emotion as an excuse. Weird to describe I guess, but point is when having a professional conversation, try to limit getting emotional and it will likely be more productive.
Rude and irrational seems to be the unifying characteristics of this movement. Oh yeah, and completely immature.
Pat did an outstanding job of keeping his composure. He's a very skilled interviewer, and it's easy to see why he manages to frequently have guests on his podcast who disagree with him. Unfortunately, some people will simply never be able to help carry a nuanced and engaged conversation with someone who they disagree with. We're seeing a lot more of that today. Hat tip to Mr Bet-David for keeping it classy and still demonstrating respect to his interviewee, despite how cranky she seemed to be with him.

Really? I didn't get that sense at all. This wasn't an interview, it was an interrogation. He didn't ask any questions to actually build conversation. He just asked a progression of 'gotcha' questions, and the old guy was right in pointing out that PBD was mischaracterizing what he said in the article. We don’t use statues to remember people we use them to glorify people and while I disagree with the person up there saying we should move the statue elsewhere he does have a point that Jefferson was a slave owner and had more than 600 slaves which is not something we want to glorify in American history.
Pat had no argument against it so he moved to asking him about what his favourite country is. It’s such a bad interview I cringed for more than half of it and the comment section is even more cringier that they are defending Pat.

Tim Steinkamp perhaps it’s me, but I’ve never thought of Jefferson (or anyone in the states) as ‘royalty.’ I don’t believe a monument treats them as such. In Washington (of all places) it does seem rather appropriate to have things like this. I love history. DC is fantastic for someone like me. I don’t disagree regarding visiting Monticello as well, however, if someone can’t/won’t, this seems like ‘history lite’ if you will. People quote (or paraphrase) the founders of the nation. A shared history & some kind of tradition is seemingly necessary in every country to keep society from imploding. I'm guessing we didn't watch the same interview, Patrick is a pushy, pedantic interviewer who disrespects his GUEST, remember they are his guest, when his guest intimates that the line of questioning he is being asked isn't helpful to elucidate what he said in his article or to allow for rational discourse, he simply ignores that and gets into a semantic debate that goes nowhere. Simple questions like "who's your favorite president" and "what's the best country in the world" are dishonest dialectical-looking questions that allow him to merely funnel his response into a pre-arranged "gotcha" point. "Gotcha" points aren't for real discussions between respectful adults. What Lucian is saying is so simple to understand that Patrick is clearly being argumentative to merely make himself and his followers feel good about being rabidly capitalistic and blindingly patriotic.
