    Good to see you used a stone to sharpen the blade’s edge. So many others have gone too aggressively with grinders or sanders , thus removing more material than necessary. Also, when done with those methods it is easy to change the angle the blade was sharpened to. It was great seeing you doing it, in my mind, the proper (best) way. Thanks.

    Nice work Kathy! ;-) Hope you're healing well Rich. Watching you sharpen blade that reminded me of my old life as a machinist way back.

    I have a Janson gts pro 2000. Went and got a cheap harbor freight bench belt sander and silicone carbide belts from Amazon 80 grit .it sharpens them fairly fast without heating up the blades just take your time and hold the angle.

    Thanks for a nice lesson there. I couldn't help but notice that large green 'portable garage' behind you. I think I'll be looking that up. Happy days to you in your 'retirement'.

    Hey man I just started watching your videos. I sharpened my blade yesterday and on the 2nd blade it slipped and fell all the way down into the drum. I literally worked about an hour and a 1/2 trying to get it out. I took bolt shoots off tipped it over use something to pry the drum back-and-forth tip it one more time hit the bottom with a hammer. And it came right out.. I couldn't believe how hard it was I like your idea with the rag inside.. I literally thought to myself before I even started flipping the blade. Don't drop it make sure you don't drop it.. So when I got to the last bolt when I got that last bolt lucin. I got distracted for a second and slip it went all the way down.. And there's no way to take the machine apart to get access to the bottom of the drum so you literally have to try to get it to slide out. The same way it fell in by tipping the machine all the way over.. Is great videos you And your wife remind me of me and my wife

    Yay,Moshe moved it. My shoulder was partially torn, so no surgery. But it took almost two years to heal. Hope you recover quickly bro. Yes, you can file on that blade or even use a belt sander.

      It’s a shelter logic from tractor supply. We’ve had to cover it with tarps the last two years though because it began to dry rot and we didn’t want leaks. Otherwise it’s been great. We just got a smaller less expensive brand name one that we hope to put up soon.

    Y'all got a stick rake yet? You know like a cultivator or a bent pitch fork .l've used the little four pronged garden tool in the past. Not the short five prong spade fork but the four pronged long handle gardening thingie. Its like a hoe but with prongs instead of a blade. You can make one with a pitch fork by bending all of the spikes over so that they can pull sticks and twigs. It will save your back in the long run because bending over front ways to pick up sticks will ravage your lower back and ultimately lead to crippling sciatica. The stick rake will enable you to gather sticks into piles very efficiently. The magic is in your form in that while raking up sticks you maintain a straight posture ,and at the same time stepping small methodical steps around the area, it's like some form of tai chi or something. Raking is low impact as well so it will not cause injury, to your body ,actually it helps you to recover from previonus injuries due to its low impact nature. . And it is a symmetrical exercize because when you get tired of raking one way you can simply change hands and rake the other way. Raking can be sped up to a powerful clean up effort or slowed down to a old man standing in his yard holding the rake for support while he views the world around him. K

    Also the machine that I bought is called a power king.. Is not a d k king.. They are almost exactly the same but in order to take my door shoot off. You have to have a socket there's no clips.. Mine's a six inch.. my emergency shut off switch does not work and I've changed it 3 times ..

    Does it sting your fingers pressing the stick in, when the blades kick it back!? It stings mine

    I messaged Detail K2 about instructions for changing and adjusting blades and got no response at all. Power king chippers are the closest thing to DK2 chippers and the power king blades for the 5" pk0915 are supposed to fit on the 6" DK2. Power king suggests tightening bolts to 50 ft/lbs. Adjust lower anvil to 1 to 5mm gap between blades and anvil. Use blue thread locker on bolts.
    Your chipper doesn't seem to be self feeding very well. I wonder if blade gap changes the self feeding qualities or if it is determined by blade angle and sharpness.

    • @CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
      @CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid  2 роки тому

      We purchased blades and swapped them with no problem. Video coming soon. It does matter how big the gap is a little but the sharpness of the blades is really what controls the self feed the most

      @@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid Thanks for the feedback. Blade sharpness is probably the most important aspect. FYI...I noticed that the power king blades at Home Depot are about half the price of what DK2 wants for theirs.
      Just spit balling here. but I'm thinking about trying to sharpen my blades on a 10" table saw with a metal cutting aluminum oxide disc in place. Maybe I could make a wooden jig to mount the blades and get the proper angle to try and keep them parallel to the hole configuration and a consistent angle, The old Popular Mechanics magazines used to have articles on sharpening jointer blades on a drill press jig with a rotary stone mounted in the drill chuck to get the same results.

      That sounds like a lot of work. We have a local guy that does it for a living. Might give him a try. If you do that let me know how it works out though👍
