We bought the same model and have used for 4 hours over two sessions of clearing trails. Very impressed with the chipper, the electric start is a big plus, and it works better than some of the others I've seen on UA-cam. Even better than those mounted to compact tractors, that use a flywheel rather than a drum. The flywheel type require someone to stand there and feed the entire tree or branch into the machine. The DK2 566E, once in, it self-feeds a much better design. Thanks for the video.
I just bought a DK2 power chipper. I bought the 6 inch but not the one with electric start. I have used it about 4 times and I am fairly pleased with it. I really don't like to chip the bigger 6 inch wood unless it's half rotten. I love how the chipper just shreds the long scraggly brush that just piles up if you leave it alone in the backyard.
I originally had this model however unfortunately the motor would not start so I had to replace it. When I went to replace it all I could get was this model but without the front wheels and no electric start. However I paid less than half of the original price being a return so it was on sale. With all that being said, I love it. This machine is a beast.
I live on a small 7 acre ranch in central Texas, down trees from storms and dead trees and brush.Same reason don’t want any fires I won’t burn. It’s a best feed it from the side worth the expense. Used the ford to move it first but put a 2 in ball on my cub cadet lawn moves it nicely around in the pasture get down in places the Ford can’t. Making it easier to put away when I’m done. Only thing dead dry hardwood dulls the blades faster haven’t flipped the blades over I will after one more use get extra blades at Lowe’s. It’s an awesome wood chipper.. 🤠
One more thing work smarter not harder if it is working to hard to chip you are to sharp blades every use, you wouldn’t use a dull chainsaw 🤠
Hey Brian, that chipper is impressive. You can tell that there is a heavy drum that holds the blades by the way it takes awhile to get up to speed. That heavy drum is essential to keep up the momentum and keep the blades spinning. You're right the self feeding of the limbs can be too fast for the diameter of the limbs. You'll have to play with it to find the sweet spot where it can handle the feed and keep the blades spinning.
You'll also notice a difference in the way it chips fresh cut green wood and stuff that has been siting awhile and has had a chance to dry out. Some species of trees are harder than others and you'll notice that too.
It reminds me of the old "Chuck and Duck chippers I used in the past. The kind you chucked a limb in and then duck out of the way so you don't get dragged in with the limbs.
Keep a mental note of the quality of the chips that are coming out while it's new and when you see them looking like they are being torn off rather than sliced off or the chipper bogs down easier you'll need to sharpen the blades. It might be advantageous to have a couple sets of blades on hand since you'll need to send the blades out to get them sharpened. There is a procedure for replacing the blades, setting the gap so it cuts properly.
Very nice piece of equipment that will make mountains of chips out of mountains of limbs. That chain saw that your Grand Pa is using sounds pretty healthy. what it is?
That was either the stihl ms 362 or the 251 I think
Wait no that was the 031ave he broke the clutch spring on it then started to us the ms362
For anyone getting one of these or something similar be sure to get the hitch ball you need for what you intend to pull it with. I need a 2 inch ball with a 5/8th inch shank to pull it with an ATV. That hitch ball is somewhat hard to find in stock. Finally ordered one from Home Depot.
Great video Mr V
Thx bro
Great content!
Always helps to have an excavator laying around.
Great video
Thanks for the video. I have a 7hp one that claims to cut up to 3 inch but can only handle up to 2.5. 2 inch without bogging the motor down so the trend is that they handle about 30% less than they claim. So in your case where says it can cut up to 6 inch, it’s more like 4. Good to know!
I think they are underpowered on intentionally, so they will not pound themselves to pieces. Light construction will bend and cause problems.
The rule of thumb for chipping is 1" in diameter for every 10 hp. 6" would require a steady 60 hp.
Seems to bog pretty easily on stuff that's only half its rated diameter.
Every thing you are up to is great. Be aware of container explosions ,CONTAINER EXPLOSIONS, check out on on you tube videos . A little gass buitd up in a storage container can go off like a 40 foot shot gun. Blows the doors clean off. Careful out there.
I've seen those scared the heck out of me hahaha glad I got my bay door installed it gives better air circulation
How much wood could a Vanduyn chip if a Vanduyn could chip wood? A lot!
Just came across your channel and subscribed ya'll are doing exactly what I want to see. Now about the chipper after having it over a year with all the good and bad experiences with it would you say its worth throwing 2500 dollars at and buying one ? I'm about to cut down a lot of pine trees and the limbs are 1 1/2 -4" and just trying to get a honest opinion. Thanks 👍🇺🇸
I would buy it again and a set of extra blades and remember don’t start it with the throttle up high start with the choke on and throttle at lowest setting then take choke off then raise throttle to start spinning 🤘🏻
@@BRIANVANDUYN appreciate it keep up the great videos I'll be watching for them.
Mine arrived this morning. Put it together and up to adding oil. It says no oil in unit but each dip stick has some kind of red colored oil on the sticks. Not sure what that is. Nothing in the manual.
How much ? Like it's full or it is coated in oil if its coated it is probably assembly lub
@@BRIANVANDUYN Not much. I drained it today into some cloth towels. Probably a few ounces. I guess its from assembly. Put in new oil and good to go. The instruction manual is very basic. Good thing I have some mechanic knowledge. Tried to start and no go. Checked everything and looked at the troubleshooting page. Still would not start. Then I remembered it had an emergency shutdown switch. That was it. Switch was depressed. Started instantly and ran great. The model we have has a gear box which also needs regular oil changes. So far I think it is a beast and will quickly pay for itself.
Yeah I love ours I will say though our starter went out on it and I bought a new one I think it is because we were starting the chipper at full throttle instead of starting at idle then ramping it up 💁♂️
@@BRIANVANDUYN oh yeah....that would do it I think. Not enough time to disengage the starter before full speed. Will keep that in mind.
Bigger diameter needs cut short so it don’t bog
HI in the market to purchase same model .at the 6 '' diameter when she slows down do you think the motor is to small or the machine itself is just not design for it
It's great for 4 inch or smaller
Hey Brian how’s it Goin I wanna ask you something bro when you got your first truck do you have to pay the whole month of insurance just to bring it home..What will be the best cheapest way to do it I’m coming to spanaway this weekend to pick up my first truck Thank you sir
I didnt pay any insurance to get mine home I did however buy a temporary permit to move it instead of licensing it
Thanks Brian god bless
Safety shield a must. Do you have a link for that helmet combo?
amzn.to/3kMSObC
@@BRIANVANDUYN Thanks Brian. Respek boss👍
How easy is it to move around manually?
It’s heavy but it’s manageable
nice video. how much was it? thank's
I think 3k or 2500. Can't remember
You bought this brand new from Ritchies? In the box $250 13HP kohler engine
I bought it online around 3k
@@BRIANVANDUYN wow
14 hp Kohler rated for 6" electric start 100lbs drum
14 HP. There is a 2 wheel version of it for around 2k. I dont think the 2 wheel version has electric start. Best I found online was at Home Depot. Shipping was only $45 to my front door. Couldnt beat that.
Hi Brian. Does that chipper have feed rollers?
Nope
Thanks bro. I have the Woodmaxx version of that chipper now. Just looking for a small one with feed rollers
@@kellytreesI have been looking for a smaller unit with feed. Anyone out there found one? Looking for 10 to 20 hp.
@@wildmanofborneo I've searched for years. The smallest you'll find with feed roller is the Vermeer BC625. DO NOT buy the DK2 Power. It'll work you too hard. For the price you may as well buy a used Vermeer BC 625. Check Facebook Marketplace. There's plenty of them on there for sale.
With all that space could you not burn it .
In winter yes , summer no
that would never chipp 6 inch wood its garbage
